Much worse. If we don’t like Pruitt because he had zero HC experience, why would we go with another guy who has zero experience as an HC and mediocre success as an OC?
Let it go
Not only will Pruitt not get fired after 1-11 or 2-10, he shouldn't be fired. He also shouldn't be fired after next year. You hire any coach, you should give them 4 years to see what their program truly looks like. You want to attract a head coach that you think can turn this thing around? Firing his predecessor after less than 2 years on the job is not the way to go about it. That would scare off any strong candidates way more than our past decade of losing would.
You want to end this dreadful cycle? Stay the course. That's our best shot right now. This isn't a video game. There is no reset button here.

Good coaches try and play to their teams strengths so hopefully they are trying to do that until he can get what he needs for his schemes then. This rebuild was always going to take a while. Butch Jones and Pruitt have very different philosophies on what the football team should be and look like. That goes beyond the defense scheme change from a 4-3 to a 3-4.
Butch recruited for speed and quickness. The roster has small, agile, quick, d-line. Small, quick, line backers. Shifty, small running backs. Pruitt prefers massive O-linemen & D-lineman. Power smashmouth running backs, and vertical wideouts.
Right now, we simply don't have enough players that fit the scheme on this team. So Pruitt and staff are stuck forcing square pegs into rounds holes.
The staff is assuring players and recruits that Pruitt has admin support and will be here next year, and Fulmer is reiterating that. Fulmer has contacted recruits personally with his assurance. Recruits are sticking because they believe it. They hear what Fulmer says and what young players like QB say, and they buy-in to the rebuild. This year is abysmal, but the losses are baked-in and recruits are looking forward. Hopefully, that mindset can continue as we hit the wood chipper part of the schedule and negativity soars.
Thanks, Pruitt
Why would you promote Tee after all the bitching about Pruitt being a first time HC learning on the job? That's exactly what Tee would be.How do you all feel if, say, we start 1-7 and end up something like 2-10 or 3-9, and Tee is promoted to head coach with the intent to keep the entire staff?
Better or worse than a full coaching search?
This is such a stark contrast to the off-season talk about this team winning a minimum of 7 games this year coming from coaches, former players, and others close to the program. I still can't get around that.
And sabotage the program completely? Fulmer has his place in UT history. He was a great coach in the '90's and he deserves every ounce of respect for that. But that was then and this is now. Fulmer taking over would hurt the program. The publicity would be brutal, and interest in the job would drop even lower. That is not the answer.Honestly would prefer Fulmer to step in at that point.
