Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

So I’m reading the stories today by the national writers and trying to match up which faction in our program they are linked to. I’m guessing Staples is probably tied in with Fulmer and Anderson. I think Thamel is possibly linked to the Haslam camp.

The all-time hit drama of Tennessee football, behind the scenes, has been renewed for another run. I didn't mean for hit to be a pun but Thamel has published a scathing hit piece on Fulmer on Yahoo.

Wow. I'm for sure not going to be able to tune out now. This reminds me of the TV show "Dallas", except this is real life and to some extent we are all in this one. jmo.
Who shot "JR"?

I’m assuming you were in the same capacity in 2008 that you are in now. Anyway, I’ve always wondered, did Hamilton act unilaterally while firing Fulmer or did he have majority support amongst the boosters and board?

I assume they were all together on it. Things had grown stagnant and I understand the decision they made. Man, what I’d do for 8 wins a season to be “stagnant.”

UT has been divided for a long time. Hammy had support from the anti-Fulmer faction, but it was really about bringing in Kiffin when they had the opportunity. He had Kiffin backchanneled or I think Fulmer would have had more time. I mean, Fulmer was coming off a division championship and had won the division something like six times in the past decade. Clearly, it was more backroom politics than winning or losing.

You're right-- wouldn't it be nice to be half that successful now?

McKenzie, Tuttle, Kongbo, and Phillips were all considered big time recruits on the DL. It’s what Butch did with them when they got here that gets the criticism.

A coach shouldn’t have to motivate good players. A lot of that is on them. Derek Barnett had the same crappy coaching and he looked good out there.

That being said Butch did them no favors. The most telling thing to me was how Khalil looked at TN versus the guy trying to get drafted...looked like a totally different person with a way different % of body fat. Also willing to play his true offensive line position when $$ is on the line.

With all the coaching issues we’re having and the complete melt down over it. People actually want to come in here and take up for Leach. It’s laughable at best.

But but does Pruitt play QB???
It is not all QB. We still lose by 21 even with an average QB against UF. And who’s responsibility is it to develop a QB or have one ready?

Funny how things have changed. I remember around that time both Clemson and Washington were trying to get a commitment from Kiffin. He had his pick of those three programs and when we got him it felt like a heist.

Why do people not recall Fulmer “stepped down” the week of the Wyoming game?

Resigned November 3

Lost to Wyoming November 8

The team was devastated when he stepped down. There was zero chance of winning that game.
The team was not happy. They loved their coach. I agree, people always bring up that Wyoming game-- I'm sure we would have won that in normal circumstances.

Most people predicted that we would go 7 and 5 this year before the season started. If that still happened meaning we go 6 and 0 against the teams that aren't Georgia and Alabama, would you be satisfied? and would it make you excited for year 3? Or would you still be ready to move on from Pruitt? Please give yes or no answers and not well that's not happening so it doesn't matter.

Yes I would be freaking ecstatic

I’m also going to ride my unicorn to Nashville to cash in my winning lottery ticket. (Sorry could not help myself).

With losses already against two OOC teams, that would be four SEC wins. Recruits would want in, and we'd have a really good class to build on. Yes-- take it, run with it and don't look back!

Our program is needing to be “turned over”. This takes time, diligence, fortitude, guts, and a stiff backbone. I trust in Fulmer / Boyd to move this program in the direction need for long sustained success. 5-6 wins provides the staff a story to tell recruits and makes looking towards next year palatable.

I don’t think that includes changing coaches.

Crazy talk. When you have a 4th year guy who’s supposed to be the man you don’t spend endless amounts of time trying to force a freshman to be ready to take over other than in mop up and emergency situations.

If we were sitting at 3-1 4-0 because we had a competent QB, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
