I think he'd have to be open to change like coach O at LSU. He seems to realize that he's not that good of a coach. so he hires good assistants to mask his deficiencies. He's brought in a good modern offense and it is showing this season. I've never thought much of O as a coach, but what he's doing at this point has been impressive.Agree.
It appears we’re in for a long rebuild. Most of us were in denial. We thought we had enough good players to win 7-8 games this fall. And we might but the problem is the most important position is QB and we don’t have a good one.
A good QB and we’re 2-0 right now and we’d start thinking we’re better than we actually are. But now we’re seeing the depth, talent and development issues right away this fall because JG isn’t good enough to mask them. So instead of getting hyped 3-0 going into SEC play all excited our hopes and dreams were crushed right out the gate.
But I’m with the crowd that says CJP isn’t an idiot, he didn’t become dumb once he had a Knoxville address. He’s a really good football coach that’s 14 games into a major rebuild. That’s reality.
All the social media talk, the national and local reporters, the opposing fanbases can talk all the trash they want. But it doesn’t mean a damn thing. I’ve tuned it all out and hopefully Fulmer, Pruitt and everyone involved in the program does the same. Let those talking heads have their headlines, stories and jokes. DNGAF. All I want to see is progress from the freshman and sophomores on the field this fall and we saw plenty last week.
It’s going to take time but I’m not writing the season or coaching staff off. I hope UT admin, Fulmer and others dont either. Forget the preseason expectations, that’s out the window. Look for progress each week and if that’s happens we’ll finish the season as a much better team and next year will be better.
Hopefully Harrison Bailey sticks with UT and is ready to roll because if he is, this team will take giant leap next fall. All these freshman and sophomores playing this fall will have the experience of juniors and seniors next fall.
Looking forward to watching more growth this weekend vs UTC. Hopefully the backup QBs get in the game. And maybe we surprise the gators with a real fight the following week. Can’t wait to find out. GBO
The ol has improved. Chaney hasn't schemed around it, hes having jg take 7 step PA drops lol. Clearly he has some faith in the ol.Lol. That's a hot take. Helton forgot that an OL still exists on a football team. He was awful at trying to scheme around the OL. Chaney did that in week one.
By far and away the better coach because of first 2 years records? We'll see. He would have to flip everything he's doing/thinking right now. At this point, Butch is by far and away a better HC, the win/loss records will show this. We'll likely win no more then 3 games this year tops. If he exceeds, he will have to develop himself into a head coach. Right now he's the worst in the SEC.
Not saying that. Saying Helton was a better coach than credited
Your words, not mine. If you like what you see in Pruitt, lets give him a 50 year extension and roll!By far and away the better coach because of first 2 years records?
Holy **** everyone! I just learned that Butch Jones is a better football coach than Johnny Majors!
Feel free to quote tnmarktx on that one.
Brett Farve did not know what the nickel defense was.Major disclaimer
I copied this from another poster and then you would have trust that McElroy knows what he's talking about.
"McElroy said this morning that Maurer isn’t ready. He said BM can’t identify the Mike LB on D."
But does anyone know if he really even said that? Didn't see/hear it myself.
“We’re working our way out of the wilderness right now," Pruitt said while behind the podium, discussing his team's 0-2 start. "But I can tell you, you want me on your side.”
“I’m standing here today, I could make a lot of excuses about why these games haven’t gone the way we wanted them to go. I can assure you of this, when we’re busting our tails during the summer, fall camp, all of that, we didn’t envision being 0-2. But you know what? It’s what we are. And the fastest way to fix it is to own it. You look around, you see where you’re at, how you got there. I don’t blame anybody but me because my name is at the top of the chain. That’s one way that I operate. You better go look in the mirror before you start pointing fingers, so I can assure you that we’re going to look in the mirror at the University of Tennessee.”
“If you look at the first game, I just said let’s just get lined up. Be able to play, give ourselves a chance. That’s not really me as a coach. I don’t know if y’all have noticed, you probably in the last year get ticked off watching it, but if you put me against the wall a little bit, I’m an aggressive type of person. I want to blitz, I want to go for it, I want to play to win the game. And I want to dictate whether we’re going to win or lose the game by us being aggressive, not waiting on the other team to be aggressive. And the first week on defense, we didn’t do that. And I think our players played that way.
"So this last week, we said you know what, we’re going to go back and make sure we have much more weapons to kind of play in the game. Whether we get it wrong or right, it’s not going to matter. We want to call the game aggressively because I feel like our kids feed off of that. We did that and we obviously played a little better defensively (against BYU). The biggest thing I’m disappointed in is how you give up one touchdown in the game, in 60 minutes, then in overtime, when the game is on the line, give up two. That’s where we have play and handle the adversity. Sometimes just say you know what, I’m not backing down, this ain’t going to happen. That’s kind of the mindset you have to have. We have to continue to grow to get that.”
