This is exactly what happened. Thought we would roll them and just stayed basic. Did not bother to prep players for GaState, so players had no respect for State. More worried about BYU and Florida.
Big problem: State is a lot better than last year and we are not good enough to just win on talent.

This. Spot on. You could tell it on both sides of the ball. That type of thinking nets yesterday's results. If we can spot in, you know the coaches and players on the other team know it even better.

UT pays too much for stupid coaching and buy-outs to have this level of performance. The fans control all of it. Start doing other stuff on your Saturdays and at least we will get the highs of yet another coaching search gone bad that the media can trash.

Beat BYU and UF - fans will return. Lose to UF and they confirm their status as dead coaches walking.

At first I was at a complete loss but after consideration it was obvious there was zero prep specifically for Ga State. We were completely lost on their tendencies and had no idea how to defend them. Admittedly JG and the offense had a terrible day I still believe the defense shares the bigger fault for the loss. When Ga State came out the 2nd half and marched unabated down the field it became clear to me it was going to be a loss.

If this is who we are I only see 1 game as a sure win and thats assuming Chatt doesn't have a good runner as a qb.

This one hurt me like no other loss before. All this time waiting on game 1 and maybe our season is over before it began. Laughingstock of college football is not what I thought we would be this Sunday morning.. Hate to admit it but I'm really hurting this morning and probably explains this incoherent post..

I’ve written a number of posts since last night and haven’t been able to actually post any of them. It doesn’t matter because somebody else has already said about anything anyone could say after yesterday.

I said a couple weeks ago I wasn’t worried about our players; I was more concerned about our coaches. Earlier last week I said I thought the defense would be key to our season and we were starting out in the hole.

I’m shocked and (using Nigel’s word) flabbergasted.

I don’t think Jeremy knows what he’s doing. I really don’t. I think he is in over his head but he has a really huge ego and no matter how many times he looks in the mirror or pseudo takes responsibility he’s still going to do things his way. jmo.

How do you recover from something like this?

I would find the absolute minimum number of players required on each side of the ball that I could trust the most and that I had some hope that they still had some trust in me. It probably wouldn’t be more than 15 guys on each side. Those are the guys I’d prepare with and those are the guys I’d play with. Everyone else could watch or quit if they wanted to. As the season progressed we might have another 3 or 4 players step up to join that first group but I’d start with the least number to begin with.

One last thing. We’re not going to quit. Not you and me. I mean we’re so upset right now we could each probably rip a gate off its hinges. Side note – be careful about any verbal threats. Some of us may take a couple hours off or maybe even a couple of days but almost everyone will still be here next week and beyond. We are Tennessee and even though we’re embarrassed and perhaps disgusted beyond belief right now we’re not really going to give up. We never do. Not the fans. Not you or me. jmo.
The maaaaybe 80,000 fans in the stadium yesterday disagree with you and attendance will further plummet after that debacle. And it should, that was disgraceful. Apathy is officially setting in after being threatened by fans for years and you can thank our dumpster fire leadership over the past 10+ years for it.

We're n a real pickle. Financially it will be hard to fire him after this year. In addition, if we did, we get the dreaded reputation of not giving him a chance with other coaches. But maybe the alternative is worse. Recruiting tanks, attendance tanks, players transfer, worse next season, no players for the new coach. Have to roll the dice again on a very risky hire. No hope, no end in sight. Tennessee football s really dead.
The only way you can fire him any time soon is if you think Tee is ready and that he can keep some of the staff.

The results of that kind of change will not be what we want them to be - Tee very likely wouldn’t be any good. But if we’re going to suck we might as well let a Tennessee boy guide us through it. At least we’d know it hurts him when we lose.

If I’m going to get thumped on the head I want it to happen with someone I trust.

Lose to BYU and the crowd for UTC will be the worst they’ve ever seen over there.

Excellent post as usual. Only think I will add, most of us here are the die hard fans. While some don't do the game day, we live and breath the big orange. That being said, if the season goes the way I suspect, I think you'll have a mass exodus of game day fans. I think attendance will drop to unfathomable levels.

He may work his butt off but has zero awareness. Slide before first down, quick checkdowns, no idea where blitz is coming. Certainly it’s not all in him, but he got better protection than last year.
He is one of the worst I can remember in staring down receivers. It's like he has blinders on and doesn't see any of the field around him. I'm not mad at him for that, I'm mad about his post game comments and attitude.

UGA fans will fill Neyland if Vols sell tix to them.

siap yesterday.....still feels appropriate today, and beyond.

Blame whoever you want.

Doesn't matter.

I'm just sick of sucking and I have no more time or energy left to devote to arguing over who's fault it is.

Fulmer takes over with T as the associate head. Ansley runs the D, Chaney the O and Fulmer provides real leadership across the program. 2 years to 4 years to stabilize program.

Only thing I have that makes sense
Or just go Hire mike leach like we should have in the first place.

But these SOB's dont represent what it means to be a Tennessean, and especially a Volunteer, so I'm seriously at my wits end with this whole damn thing. Our QB is a damn mentally weak child that Mike leach couldnt even extract quality play from.

I wasnt raised to quit no, but I was also raised to call BS when I see it. That effort was SYSTEMIC and the most concerning thing besides our uninspiring QB. Zero f'ing moxie on that guy, Gray is the only player besides JJ that played like a Vol yesterday that I can recall... a true freshman... God help us

I think the only way out of this mess is to spend your way out of it. I think you have to pay "eyebrow" raising money to someone. Sure, there are a lot of coaches that wouldn't come here for any amount of money but there are some that will. We have to quit rolling the dice on up and comers and coordinators with no head coaching experience. We end up paying that kind of money anyway.

Also, as much as I like the man, Fuller has to own this too. He hired the guy that appears to be a Mike Hamilton level failure. I think Fuller is a dead man walking at this point too.

It wouldn't matter, we could bring in Neyland himself as the head coach and he would immediately turn to complete **** just like every other coach that comes here.
no he would run those mf's into the dirt til there were only about 40 guys left on the team that he KNEW wouldnt quit

I’m curious what a Tee Martin staff would look like. Maybe Chavis or Steele as DC.

He’s probably got some guys from USC he’d bring in on offense assuming Chaney would leave.

Again, people would be upset because the ceiling on something like this would be very low. But the ceiling on the program is very low right now anyway.

We’re spending our way to a loss to GSU right now.

Highest paid staff in the country. I think we pay Pruitt more than we’ve paid any head coach in our history. Money doesn’t fix this.

But WHY will we never see success? That is what I am stuck on. All factors taken together, there is zero reason that we shouldn't be able to get to a point where we are winning 9, sometimes 10 games a year. Zero.

We have the facilities, the fan support, the recruiting budget, the history, and the name recognition to be successful but no matter what we do, literally everything and everyone miraculously turns to **** as soon as they get here. It makes no ****ing sense.
Rotten to the core. Apathy set in over the years of suckitude, and it is like Kudzu. Any new life that springs up is pulled down.
