If we were to get the death penalty, at least it would end the suffering..
I kinda wish there was no football program at this point. Let me move on in life and actually enjoy some things instead of obsessively suffering year after year. I’m an idiot and I come back for more

I was amazed at how long the band member was down before they got to him. That will definitely be addressed.

I’m just shell shocked at how bad we looked. If we don’t do something drastically we could have the worse season in UT history. It was that bad. I’ve never heard Neyland that quite.

There was literally no emotion on the sideline, just like they had their minds somewhere else and looked to be OK with what was happening.

Not one leader stepped up and chewed Ass on the sideline. NOT ONE.

Maybe it’s something in the water........
It’s as if the entire team was on a sedative

DT basically said they weren't prepared. Didnt know what ga st was going to do and didnt watch enough film. I think we didnt take them seriously and paid.
I’m furiously livid over this. No opponent for 9 months, and just maybe you couldn’t find the freakin time to get yourselves ready to go?

Idk to paraphrase...2005 Michigan lost to App and won 9 games...Pruitt and veteran staff didnt suddenly take stupid pills....life is about how you respond to failure...predicting a season off 1 game makes many a fools...now let's see how they respond.
True, and yet I only have one sample to go from. Confidence is completely gone until proven otherwise. I trusted Dooley and Butch far too long and dismissed the warning signs. Signs are stacking up, and the stretch into how this team closed last year

This is exactly what happened. Thought we would roll them and just stayed basic. Did not bother to prep players for GaState, so players had no respect for State. More worried about BYU and Florida.
Big problem: State is a lot better than last year and we are not good enough to just win on talent.
A high school coach can make that mistake. An SEC head coach does not do that. It’s beyond ludicrous

Charlotte last season is making perfect sense now. The team isn’t prepared for smaller opponents

Its just so TN (one step forward, two steps back) to have a coach like Leach wrapped up, then blow that up, in what was badically a coup that saw CFP "step up" and install himself as AD. Heck he couldn't even get NC State Dorean to take on the job. I remember I eas so excited when I went to sleep that Thursday night thinking we were getting Leach.

My son thinks this team sucks. I do too. Said we can just watch basketball and he knows about a handicapped kid Pruitt knew about and ignored doing something for. A few of us boosters have got it taken care of with a skybox ticket ect.

I was going to judge him by results on the field. He has failed. This looks like three years without a bowl and my son doesn’t care about this team. Looking at pulling out and just supporting basketball. I hate Pruitt and he’s just an ignorant piece of Rainsville Alabama trash who isn’t intelligent enough to run a SEC program. He will fail here and I, like Larry feel I will never see this football team will ever see success. Better win Jeremy or your Bama azz is history.
Yikes

But WHY will we never see success? That is what I am stuck on. All factors taken together, there is zero reason that we shouldn't be able to get to a point where we are winning 9, sometimes 10 games a year. Zero.

We have the facilities, the fan support, the recruiting budget, the history, and the name recognition to be successful but no matter what we do, literally everything and everyone miraculously turns to **** as soon as they get here. It makes no ****ing sense.

It was bad. Real bad. Bad to the point it's made me really scared for recruiting. Seeing what was put on the field today, why would any kid with talent want to come here? That's how bad it was. And I know many will blame line play, which played a part, but it went much deeper than that. Can JG not make reads? I've defended him many times, but his reads were horrible, and his throws not much better. No touch on the ball at all. And absolutely no heart whatsoever. All of that, and I've not even mentioned game management yet. What the hell were Pruitt and Chaney thinking? I'm just at a total loss for what happened. I was already having a bad week, and started the day thinking I'd have at least one bright spot. Nope. This really sucks.

I hope that somehow, some way we can get our **** together, otherwise, this is gonna be another miserable season, and at this pace, lead to another miserable coaching search. This one hurt bigly.
We are thinking the same thoughts (and sorry about your bad week) .. Line play was improved, IMO. JG doesn't look comfortable with handoffs, throws the ball too hard to nearby team mates and often sails it over heads, can't throw on the run and now he has started throwing interceptions, which was one of the one things he did right previously. Definitely not a dual threat quarterback by any stretch of the imagination. I was hoping Chaney would help improve some things, but he is worse, which is amazing with the line actually holding for him much better than last year.

That said, quarterbacks often get blamed, and it's on the coaches. If they are not prepared and disorganized, then this is where it starts. We just set a record as the worse loss in SEC history. You don't over look that or say the sun comes up tomorrow. Not, when that is your job.

Where Butch seemed to bask in the glory of being the center of attention and living for the fan events, Pruitt seems to just tolerate us. Now, I hear that they don't prepare and are disorganized. I just don't understand.

My husband and I are always going to be VOLS fans, but in our family, we are losing the younger generation to other teams like the Bulldogs (live in Georgia) One of the kids said that people don't smile when Tennessee plays football. Like your son, they enjoy the basketball team. I do too, but football is my first love. With the team down once again, my husband and I are looking for underdogs and teams like the VOLS who have been down to root for-- Les Miles Kansas, Scott Frost Nebraska and Mac Brown NC.

Randoms: edit kinda disjointed and half assed thoughts.

Not buying that there is dissension amongst the staff. Most of these guys have worked together in the past and have known each other for years.

I’m indifferent to the loss. Apathy is setting in. Sometimes being a fan of this team is a miserable existence. I got my health, three beautiful kids, a great career, and a forum with hundreds of my best friends. Oh and bignewt also posts here but whatever.

Fairly certain it’s one of a couple things:

- staff isn’t that good. Pruitt included. They’re good recruiters and can win when they have more talent than anyone else, but as far as coaching a bad team they’re unable to put players in the best position to succeed or scheme against good coaches.

Or

- Possible dissension amongst players. Upper classmen salty young guys getting pub/playing time and aren’t giving their all for UT

Or

Staff took this as a gimme - just roll the ball out and we’ll win - and didn’t study GSU film. Focused all on BYU and UF. We paid dearly

Or

JG was concussed.

- Chaney gave us the worst, most pathetic, confusing offensive gameplan I’ve ever seen.
- I’m glad uscjr lost
- Tim Jordan sucks
- I think the shuffling OL around constantly is a ****ing idiotic thing.
- Wanya will be alright eventually but he played like **** yesterday
- We coached passive and scared all game. Settling for a field goal before the half because our clock management early in the Drive was embarrassing
- at least we don’t have to worry about Alabama taking Pruitt from us when Saban retires

I’m frustrated. I bleed orange and I spend countless hours following this team, count down to game days like Christmas - only to see that. We’ve had a lot of rock bottoms lately. I don’t think it’ll ever end. I think the Vols I grew up with in the 90’s are gone forever. That’s the new reality.

I mean you think you got a great staff, a great AD, a great S&C crew, hear how good everyone looked all fall camp, and go into opening game against what should be a cupcake, only to look bored and disinterested and barely giving any effort.
