Better than the previous year or better than JG?

Yes on 1st count. Certainly improved over 2017.

Undecided on 2nd count, but your qualifier is poignant. In absolute terms, FF did similar to JG (JG edged out in YPA, Total QBR, doubled FF in td:int ratio, 4% better in completion, FF edged out JG in Passer Rating). Given the difference in OLs and rush games, JG did far better. But I don't expect any media to actually do some deep research and judge with context and use their god given brains.
I figured they just decided since his team got to a bowl and JG's didn't then that settled it for them.

I'm watching this live Q&A on the Athletic with David Ubben. I really like his work, but every time I start feeling optimistic about something football related, he brings me right back down to earth. Why can't we have just one guy that writes for us be a sunshine pumper?
Once we are good again we will.

Point out someone that covers Tennessee football that isn't a straight shooter or doom and gloom all the time...

UGA, UF, Bama, Clemson, etc. all have "homers" covering them...

Most of the paysites have guys who either pump a little shine, or will just remain silent about the bad stuff. Were Hubbs and Rucker straight shooters about how bad Butch was or why there were so many injuries in 2016-17? I’m asking honestly but I doubt it because they can’t lose access.

Ainge was on the radio “I’m full Butch y’all” until the end. He went down with the ship. Great that was helpful Ainge. Did Jimmy Hyams voice his concerns? I dunno I stopped listening. We know Doug Matthews thought everything was just wonderful.

At least Jayson Swain spoke up a few times about culture problems and injuries. He received some hate for it too.

There are more propagandists than you think so long as you stay away from John Adams articles there’s plenty of positive news. Ubben is actually able to get close to the team and still report honestly. I like that.

There’s no real market for objective journalism in sports. We all either want to read the positives about our team or the negatives about other teams. And that’s countrywide in every sport.

Remember, this fanbase threw such a fit about Travis Haney’s article (which was totally correct and foreshadowed what was coming) that he was fired.

Interesting discussion on SECMD about Tommy Stevens - a PSU transfer. Didn't play a lot there, but he'll know Moorehead's offense. Jordan Rodgers seems confident he'll start over Keayton(?) Thompson. Said he saw him at the Manning Camp and he could sling it.

Also a very good runner - career 6.7 YPC rusher.

I think he and Riley Neal at Vandy will be interesting scheme challenges to stop the QB run threat. That seems to be the one thing that has given Pruitt defenses trouble over time. Also another reason I really want King. Nothing in CFB can completely shut down a great DT QB.

Good. The story sounded like cops overreacting/abusing power

I don't find that at all. At least at 247, I think Callahan and Co. keep very disinterested, or at least much as they can be. You could absolutely feel the skepticism on Butch. Most on there begged for some bit of sunshine, but they never gave in. Most there are also absolutely shocked at the 180 difference the way they have responded positively to Pruitt. They see a ball coach, not a circus wrangler.

I'm sure Butch's condescending treatment of the media didn't help.

Fall camp 2017 and just for the record I would have said the same thing. I think that's the way it works when you are part of a team. jmo.

That’s refreshing to see. I canceled my sub years ago at some point in the Dooley era.

Tbf, most just disliked the cheap title, not the substance. The substance was what it was, but the title was really cherrypicked to grab shock value. It was an insanely long article and at the very end of just one portion was simply, "“The culture is a disaster,” said someone who works in the football building." and nothing more.

The article was about so much more. It just seemed attacking, when much of the article was actually fairly measured by Haney. It's a shame they went with that and it was ok'd by editors at 247. Now Haney is gone.

Couldn't disagree more. 1 reason why so many like Ubben. He is informative, but also very disinterested. There are plenty of us that just want facts and reasonable, fair informed opinions, not sunshine. Sunshine pumping a 4-8, 5-7 team just comes off as cheesy tbh.

I was never a fan of taking Kenneth George, so to me, the most interesting thing about this is the coaches had a completely legitimate reason to cut bait if they didn’t like what they saw since he has been on campus, but instead, have kept him around.

That’s good news for his future

I trust Pruitt. In my fairly extensive experience of doing stupid stuff while intoxicated (which is what this case was, IIRC), it's not a true indication of character, just a bad decision.

And just because he's back on the team, doesn't mean it never happened, it simply means it was adjudicated, the coaches were satisfied with the outcome, and believe the incident doesn't speak to the overall character of KG.

I trust JP.

The next suggested video describes how much of a joke I think it is that Peyton said that Jones was gonna have their back.

Ubben is, by far, the best Journalist that covers UT sports. He's informative, insightful, doesn't deal too much in fluff-filled journalism (i.e. "...according to unnamed sources within the SEC..."), and he has decent enough sources that feed him good information that you can take what he writes as being as factually-based as anyone in the media.

I haven't paid for UT information for over a decade (thanks to this site, @Freak) but I am seriously considering subscribing to him...he's damn good.

Yep. I’m not afraid to float my opinion on a recruit. I think I’ve hit more than I’ve missed, but I generally don’t have a strong opinion. I really didn’t like this one, Jordan Allen, and Jamir Johnson in that class. Typically, o am anti-JUCO unless they produced in high school
