Burns enters transfer portal

There's not a whole lot positive that can realistically be said at this point.

Gonna be a long season.

At least Reverend Rick's gonna be paid well for his effort but the truth is this is on him for putting us in this position.

He put this roster together.

Damn you Deacon Barnes! You should have known better than to get the most wins in a 2-year period in the history of TN BB with all your 2 and 3 star recruits. And then you have the nerve to accept a bump in your pay. Jesus is watching you!

You need to watch some video of Josiah James and cool your jets, especially his last game at Porter-Gaud - 37 points. There is a whole lot of positive in his game alone. We will be fine.

What does that have to do with the roster we're left with?

Sorry, but if Burns has had his ego bruised by us approaching other players then please use the door marked "Exit"

Just look at Harrison Bailey who did not throw his toys out of the pram regarding Haynes King.

2 juniors leaving early for the NBA? It’s been well documented that the only player on the NBA radar 2 years ago was Alexander. Pretty much everyone doubted GW due to his height would ever play in the NBA and Bone wasn’t even a consideration then. But it appears you think CRB should have anticipated their early departures anyway and sold some high level recruits on the prospect of immediate openings? What if Bowden and Turner both miss the season with injuries? Should we fire CRB since he assembled the roster and should have had 2 all SEC type of guards sitting on the bench?

No team in the country doesn’t have a huge drop off in player quality after their top 5-7 guys. When you’re recruiting one and done types then you know your recruiting for yearly roster turnover. When you’ve got 3* developmental type guys you expect to have them for 4-5 years and recruit accordingly. Anyone who thinks losing GW and Bone a year early shouldn’t have been a problem and are judging CRB harshly for not having guys equally as good ready to take their place isn’t being realistic IMO.

Well, guess I better go check off some items off my bucket list, because according to this thread the sky is falling and the season is already over and the program is dead.

I'm going to get blasted for this but -

Do other coaches who make 5 million struggle this bad during the off season? You would think things would be a little smoother.

And yes, I have every right to bring up his salary. I've been a UT fan before RB and I'll be one after he is gone.

Maybe? But what I would pay 5 million dollars for is to still win playing 4 guards because that is what it looks like we are doing. If he does that then I don't care about the off season. Oh and he lost 4 all conference players on a team that historically can't recruit in basketball.

Such a ridiculous comparison. Bailey is NOT on campus. He’s not even a signer.

Not even four true guards on the roster, so I’d like to see that.

Typical "UT" luck. Give a dude $5 mill a year for a sweet 16 flameout and we are back to square one in less than a year.

We STILL have NEVER had a true 5 with skill play for a CRB coached team here. It's ridiculous.

We are... "UT".

I know some won't agree, but I think this is being blown way out of proportion. Yes, this sucks losing Burns, but his transfer is likely happening b/c he is not panning out in one way or the other. Best for him to move along now than wait until the season gets here and find out hes not going to help this team. I actually think ORN will develop into a GW type player and James who is almost 6'7 will lighten this blow significantly. James may be running point, but I bet he will be one of the best rebounding guards in the conference. With all this being said, I think we make the tourney, no question.

Williams put in paperwork for an NBA grade last year. There were plenty of people who thought Williams could be a NBA player before the year and we definitely knew it was a possibility before the turn of the calendar. So yes, that’s poor planning. Bone? I’ll give a pass. But that’s why we also have grad transfers, in case of those situations. Instead we took two players who have to sit and three freshmen who probably won’t be ready to contribute but have to play.

It looks like Barnes is focused on 2020-21. Especially if Gaines and Pember take redshirts in 2019-20.

It might make sense to redshirt one or both NEXT year instead since there might be far less playing time to spread around.

He’s getting paid a **** load to evaluate.
He even went so far to get the kid to reclassify.

Perhaps some will not criticize Barnes for anything. At least I give him credit where deserves.
I've yet to see that last part at all from you, but I guess I either haven't been on this board long enough or you're lying, one of the two.
