The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I "appendix carry". Both my Glock 30S and my Rock 1911 compact. I don't like having a gun behind my 3 or 9 o'clock positions, where someone behind me (say, in line at the grocery store) can get to it before I do. Ankle carry, yes, but it's a long way down and back. So for me...and to each their own...it's appendix carry.

The trade-off is that I do not carry with a round in the pipe, with either gun. Yes, that adds maybe half a second to my on-target time, but it completely eliminates an AD headed towards my nuts. So when I shoot both guns, it's from appendix carry, no round in the chamber, draw, rack, and put 2 in the torso and one in the pelvic triangle. Practice the way you plan to fight.

If you're asking "why the pelvic triangle", well...a head is awfully hard to hit, especially when it's likely moving and your stress level is north of DefCon 1. The pelvic triangle is much larger, less likely to be bobbing around, and a .45 HST anywhere in that area is probably going to break your hip and hit a major artery or vein. In short, you ain't going far, and you'll likely be out of blood when EMS arrives.

Like I said, to each their own, but that's what I do, and how I train.

Okay, when you use the words "forward observer" in long range shooting, it's about to get ridiculous.

That’s why I bought the Shield. Couldn’t pass it up at that price
How accurate are you with that thing? A buddy of mine got one with the laser and neither one of us could hit what we were aiming for as close as 7 feet away.

I'm usually in the 95-100% hit rate. They may not all be close, but a hit is a hit.
Did you have to make any adjustments to it? Someone suggested to him that they sometimes have a stiff trigger that has to broken in. I thought it was just a poorly made gun, but then I see the reviews online are very positive. Maybe his was defective.

Feels fine to me. That's possible
They sometimes figure things out as they go with guns. I know the later serial numbered original XDs .45s didn't have the same issues as the earlier ones. Springfield had mine for 2 months IIRC

Just saw this and wanted to see if anyone has this specific gun with any experience?

1911 Mil-Spec .45ACP Pistol | State-of-the-Art Handguns

$550 is pretty cheap for a 1911, but I have also been told not to buy one for less than $1,000 due to the need for a well made model. I have a Springfield Tactical 45 1911 model that I absolutely love. The feel, accuracy, reliability are great, and the trigger is my favorite of any gun I've shot.

Anyway, could be a great price for an entry level 1911 or a real expensive paperweight. Anyone know anything more?

Rock Island for best value under $1,000.

Inexpensive doesn't mean cheap.

Agreed. I have a Rock compact 1911 in .45 ACP. Sent it back to RIA for night sights, but that's the only thing I've done to it. Solid gun. Well worth what I paid for it. While I usually carry my Glock off-duty, I love the way the Rock sucks up the recoil due to its' weight.

In short, I'd buy this same gun again if I was in the market for a compact .45.

Thanks guys. I respect both of your opinions. I love the 1911 platform and would like for others to find out about it as well, and my SFA performs beautifully. Just didn't want to recommend anything that wasn't worth the price, even at a bargain level.

(Deleted. Gun no longer on sale.)

Purchased a wilson combat TTU trigger yesterday. I removed the Timney from the SBR and dropped in the WC in it's place.

The Rock is nothing but a shooter. You don't pretty it up or show it off as a BBQ gun. It's meant to be banged around and shot.

Notice the state it’s being sold in. Can’t wait for this weapon to be another “Florida” headline.

Usually involves the words Daytona, Meth, repeat offender, gunshot wound, solicitation and traffic stop.

That's a really old picture. Said poster took his azzbeating a long time ago for it.

So...tomorrow the slide of my SA 1911 Range Officer is on its' way north for 3-dot night sights. Takes 2-4 weeks, but I'd rather let the Armory work on their gun. Plus it keeps the warranty intact.

When it gets back, that will leave me with two of my three .45's "night capable". The only outlier being my Glock, which still sports the "ball in a cup" factory sights. That one's next.

So the Rock got night sights and nothing else (although that gun came back noticeably "tighter" from RIA)...the Range Officer will have night sights and needs nothing else...and the Glock has an Apex trigger, extended slide release, extended mag release, and night sights on the horizon.

Happy with where I am on my AR's. GV proved to be a solid counsel on those, to the point where I'm very happy with where I am on both of them.

Also thanks to GV, SGAmmo, and AmmoSeek, I have enough top-shelf 5.56 and .45 ammo to last me well past my anticipated expiration date. And the spare mags, batteries, and what-have-you to make sure those rounds will reach their intended destination if I just do my part.

In short, I'm "there", or as there as I can get without changing my last name to Tackleberry.

This thread played a large part in getting me to where I am, which is on solid footing. So thanks.

I'll be interested in what kind they put on. My TRP came with night sights but they aren't bright enough for me to see in the day so it's more like regular black on black sights in daylight and three dots in the dark. I put some Tru Glo Fiber optics on my Glock 26 that I really like. They are bright enough to use as three dots in daylight. I usually wear glasses so the sights are blurry with the target in focus so I prefer the bright three dots to the others. In fact I'm getting ready to take my TRP to a gunsmith to replace the factory sights with a set of Tru Glo TFX Pro's with an orange ring around the front sight. Regardless it probably won't help my groups any. That problem ain't the gun.
