Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

So missing on Springer is the key here. I detect a theme in your post regarding this subject
Not at all, was simply mentioning Springer and your post about him...do I think they turn away 1 of Love, Springer or Johnson? No I don’t, apparently you do.

I think they absolutely can’t take those 3 with walker if we take a transfer

Appears to me you are on the record saying we are taking 4 in November and a transfer

Lmao...that’s not what I said at all, do I think they are willing to if it’s the right 4? Absolutely. Do I think they’re going to take 4 just to take 4? No.

They could end up just signing Walker, if they miss on everyone else that’s also a possibility and then there’s no oversigning...not sure why you keep trying with the “so you’re on record” BS.

I was on record saying they would take both Plavsic and ORN, we saw how that went.

Ok so taking a transfer is hedging our bets on missing on guys like you said yesterday. Not a bad idea imo. I support it especially considering the kid will get a year to practice with the team which is a huge bonus

Or also trying to balance classes out a bit...

Simple question...2 weeks ago did you think we were going to oversign in the fall? Careful how you answer, you’re on record...

Why’d you ignore the rest of my post?

Not ignoring.

Hell two weeks ago the numbers talk for 2020 was very hard to understand. Still is. Williams, Bone, before the 2 newest guys came aboard it’s very hard to follow and discuss with any kind of certainty

So we are going to use the 13th scholarship on a transfer that can’t play? Another one? So we are going to have two transfers that can’t play, a guy that needs a RS year (Pember) And two freshman in Gaines/ORN that most people think need a year before becoming every game rotations players.

2019-2020 gonna be a lonnnnngggg year. If anyone gets injured UT gonna be screwed

Might as well punt on 3rd down, #amirite?

I mean, it could work out if Plavsic and transfer are good players. But unless Burns, Fulkerson and Pons all develop quickly or Josiah James is a super duper star I don’t see a tournament team right now for 2020. And we are assuming no injury problems.

Didn’t seem that complicated to me...

We were full heading out of March, 2020 had 4 scholarships coming open on paper (Bone, Williams, Bowden and Turner)...

Williams and Bone declare, Walker transfers, this gives you 5 spots for 2020, with 3 available immediately...

ORN commits and Plavsic commits and you’re down to 3 spots with 1 available immediately...add a transfer and that’s 2 spots left for 2020 class and nothing left for the current roster.

The staff thinks Plavsic gets eligible, that’s a game changer...look back at Barnes’ teams here and he’s never playing 11/12 guys, it just doesn’t happen, so you gotta fine a strong 8-10 at most...that is still more than possible while redshirting 1 and another sitting a year as a transfer.

James
Turner/Johnson
Bowden/Pons/Gaines
Fulky/Kent/ORN
Plavsic/Burns

Transfer sitting out
Pember redshirting

No I don’t think that’s a 30 win roster but I do think they can make the dance

Maybe Plavsic gets immediate eligibility but right now he’s not. So we can’t count that yet.

And you’re right you need 8-9 guys but we are gonna rely a lot on never proven guys. Fulkerson has never been more than a 15 mpg guy. Barnes basically went to a seven man rotation last year because he didn’t trust Pons or Johnson. James should be good but he’s a freshman. Still an unknown. Burns and Kent have never played. ORN hasn’t played a lot of Basketball. Gaines probably needs a RS but we can’t afford to redshirt because of numbers.

All I see is a **** ton of questions. And again, health. There’s way too many questions for a year 5 team IMO.

He also hasn’t been ruled ineligible, or had his waiver denied, so...

There are a lot of questions, no doubt, but until those questions don’t result in wins or losses I have a hard time writing them off...people forget that Tennessee was on track to make the tourney in Barnes 2nd year until Hubbs got injured, that team had a lot more questions and less talent than this upcoming squad.

And I’m also not sure that there’s many programs who never have years with questions, very few P5 teams are consistently winning 25+ games a year and NCAAT locks year in and year out.

I’m also curious what team in the country loses 4/5 of their starting 5 and doesn’t have questions surrounding their roster.

Sure but some teams have multiple big time recruits coming in. Or a grad transfer that’s logged major minutes at a mid major. Or bench pieces that have played over 10 mpg. We just have one freshman big time freshman. We have one proven bench piece. We have no proven grad transfers coming.

Tevin Mack will be a grad transfer from Bama.

Probably not a game changer by any means, but would be a quality rotation player if we pursued.

Was Grant Williams a big time recruit? Admiral Schofield? Jordan Bone?

Would we feel better if we had another Yves Pons in this class?

That is why I’m not ready to write this group off, Barnes has proven that he didn’t need “multiple big time recruits” to win.

Uh oh, here come the thought police.
Buckle up.

Nevermind that you just made some incredibly valid points.
