i didn't know how they'd end it for Jon or Tyrian, though i thought there was a pretty good chance at least one of them would get got.
that neither did, doesn't bother me now that i've seen how it ends. figured if Jon didn't die, he'd be North of the Wall before the episode ended....fine with that. Tyrian's place, i guess makes sense too. but talk about falling ass backwards in to a pile of gold........lol. to say things worked out for him is putting it very mildly..........
Absolutely. And you’re not wrong to say that 15 years of ineptitude has caught up with us on instate kids. What also hurt is not prioritizing the top guys in state last year. We liked some of them, but turned away a lot. (Not that its a guarantee we would have signed them, mind you, but we didn’t even really recruit them.)They're always as selective as they can be. And absolutely, we'll see commitments after the camp bumps. But a lot of these commits will be under-the-radar and development guys-- and there's nothing wrong with that. This staff has proven they can sniff out and develop talent. But the top recruits on our board and some of the in-state guys are a different breed. We need them, too.
true. but as opposed to being burnt by drogon? acceptable "pile of gold" fate....Tyrions life is going to be filled with non stop drudgery like trying to figure out boring stuff like fixing the sewer system in Kings Landing, and how to pay for it...Bran was right, it is punishment..he literally begged to not have to do it..
throw Lawrence in that group too...agreed.Absolutely. And you’re not wrong to say that 15 years of ineptitude has caught up with us on instate kids. This year is different - we want these guys. My guess is we’ll feel a little better about our standing once Mays and Baron jump on board. Baron especially, because he is close with a lot of the midstate guys we’re targeting.
Would you liken Tennessee Football to a tornado about to take the SEC by storm? Is it crazy to think this defense (the secondary especially) could win a few games by themselves (like they won the Kentucky and Auburn games last year)?
Roger in Little Rock
I would liken Tennessee Football to a Tropical disturbance — a few thunderstorm clouds hovering somewhere far out in the Atlantic Ocean near the equator, still at mild intensity, but which, with the right confluence of circumstances, could eventually graduate into Tropical storm and, eventually, full-blown hurricane. Or which could just as easily subside without anyone back on the mainland noticing.
My whole point is this: it is too early to worry about recruiting.
We have a great staff and they are great recruiters. We spare no expense to compete on top level high school athletes, if you catch my drift.
I am very bullish on this season as well.Agreed. We'll see movement this summer-- maybe not to the degree some would like, but the class will start taking shape. But here's what's different this year-- the bill has come due. If we're going to recruit at a high level, we're going to need to show that we can win at a high level. The Auburn W gave us a big boost; the Vandy L ended the season on a very sour note. This core group of in-state recruits have doubts. Relationships are mitigating-- not overcoming-- those doubts. We've got something to prove. This year, we need to prove it. I think we can.
To be honest, there might not be a specific number of wins that would achieve said goal.
Showed in recruiting also. The 2016 class had fewer commits (lower score) but the average was right at the same as our top 5 - 2015 class. This is it.
I waffle back and forth on our chances of beating UofSC, MissSt, and Mizzou, between going 5-7 and 8-4.
But when it comes to recruiting, it's all about perception, momentum, and belief. We've seen it under Butch-- 2014 seeing us go 7-6, but having that miraculous comeback that shuttered Spurrier's career, and then boatracing Iowa in the bowl. Momentum was huge in our favor then. And of course, 2016 which saw us hit 9 wins for the second straight year, but everyone outside of Butch Jones knowing we vastly underachieved.
We know it when we see it.

yep. biggest difference in that gator bowl year and today is that there was no ESD. we have that same type of bowl game this year, after ESD, the writing may already be ont he wall (for the most part, see feb signing day this past cycle) for this class. This is it.

Pruitt has said it over and over and it deserves to be repeated: your best recruiters are your current players.Showed in recruiting also. The 2016 class had fewer commits (lower score) but the average was right at the same as our top 5 - 2015 class.
After the 2016 season, nose dive.
Curious if you've read The Kingkiller Chronicle and your thoughts on that author?
I read the first 2 books of the intended 3 book series and loved the story. Been waiting on that 3rd book almost as long as I have been waiting on GRRM's WInter Is Coming.
I have read that there are rights to both a movie and a tv series, but after HBO going with an unfinished ASOIAF, I really wish Rothfuss could get that final book published before that happens.
