Derrick Walker enters Transfer Portal

I expect us to lose all 4 players so I have no real expectations for the coming season. Having said that I'd rather go with HS talent instead of a transfer.
Agree 100 percent. At some point you have to start over and rebuilt. We are not a blue blood that just replaces 5 stars with 5 stars.

Every year every team loses players and the next in line steps up. We all are wondering if they can and then they grow up. Happens every year at every program. Never really know until they get the chance. Cant what to see who steps up.

The Serbian guy on ASU staff was Drazen Zlovaric. If that name sounds familiar, he played at UGA about 10 years ago. Zlovaric was at Cleveland State, and Plavsic was committed there and then he followed Zlovaric out to ASU, where Plavsic signed his LOI.

Drazen actually went to Cleveland HS, yes?

Ill reserve judgement on next years team when we see what happens with Williams and Bone and when we see what type of class we bring in including grad transfers.

A lot can change that could have this team anywhere from a bubble team to a preseason top 10 team.

Barnes is making the big money now.

Lets see what he puts together.

Back in the days of Derek Reese we were dissing guys that didn't average 10 points in high school. Because Plavsic is a 7 footer, we overlook that? Just curious.

Grant Ramey posted on the hoopsville board on gvx247 about a potiental transfer to watch for. @Big Gucci Sosa can you help us out on that?
Derrick Walker added another question to Tennessee basketball’s offseason with his entry into the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday afternoon.

The move isn't all that surprising, even if head coach Rick Barnes said during a press conference on April 16 that he didn’t “see anything happening with our roster,” when asked about the possibility of transfers leaving the program.

“But I’ve been caught off-guard before with it,” Barnes said at the time, “or been surprised before with it.”

The stats tell the story with the decision.

After averaging 1.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 34 games as a freshman during the 2017-18 season, averaging 8.8 minutes per game, Walker’s numbers dropped to 0.8 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.3 minutes per game this season.

The 6-foot-8, 236-pound sophomore power forward showed flashes over the last two seasons, like the career-high 10 points he scored at South Carolina as a freshman, or the seven rebounds he grabbed at Ole Miss in February 2018.

It never translated to his sophomore season.

After Rick Barnes and his staff had gotten so much production from former three-star prospects, they never managed to do the same with Walker.

So maybe a fresh start helps for both sides.

How a 7-foot center from Serbia ended up at Arizona State

Couple of good reads with quotes from his high school coach at HHCA, never played AAU ball in the states so he wasn’t seen by anyone really.

When you play alongside Jordan Rawls, Keon Ambrose, Samson Ruzhentsev, Thomas Gilgeous-Alexander, Jason Jitoboh, Byron Matos and probably a couple other D1 guys I’m forgetting there will only be so many points to go around. I’m not sure what Jaden Springer averaged at IMG Academy this year, but if it was only 10ppg I wouldn’t knock him, that’s for sure.

My biggest surprise of all this is that they would go with effectively adding 3 freshman, ORN/Cone/Plavsic along with James/Pember/Gaines...that on paper leaves you 2 open scholarships for 2020, a class in which you’ve seemingly got some serious interest from multiple highly regarded guys.

Same here. I have a hard time seeing both ORN and Plavsic coming aboard. That would be an odd decision.

It’s not a guarantee, that is the hope of the staff...the NCAA has become very lenient on these waivers and so there’s a decent chance that he would be granted one.

What's wierd is the NCAA HAD become very lenient but the last few decisions appear to be the NCAA is trying to flip flop again
