I'd be willing to bet you're correct that it was about flex and attention. I just wish it hadn't gotten to him having one foot out the door if it was all about getting more support for his program. Maybe Fulmer deserves some blame for not putting the fire out when it was a flicker.
Recruits already know that the coaches are there until the next big offer comes though.Again, it's all about the perception. Do you think this hurts or helps recruiting? If I'm an opposing coach, I'm saying "Barnes is there until the next big offer comes." You can argue all you want and defend coach Barnes and what happened yesterday as normal business but it is simply not. Distrust abounds. As LA said yesterday, coach Fulmer will remember this. This was not the way to handle it if you 100% invested in a program.
would be a great story. and i think his jersey gets retired no matter what now, b2b SEC poy, has won national player of the year by some service, if i heard that right....1st team AA.......1st Team All SEC....Real talk, I expect Grant to return for his senior season. If the BasketVOLs manage to win another SEC title (regular and/or tournament) next year and then make a deep run (Sweet Sixteen or better) with him as a senior and he wins a 3rd straight SEC player of the year honor his legacy will be cemented and his number will be retired (if it's not already in consideration now).
Pat's dynasty? Hard sell. 15 year head coach with only 4 mediocre years at a P5 school. Only one regular season conference championship back in 2007 in the Southern Conference. Never been past the 1st round of the NCAA or 2nd round of the WNIT prior to this year. 86-47 (.647) record the last four years at a mid-major school (Holly's record that got her fired was 86-46 or .652). Nothing about her career suggests she's an elite coach. If she weren't a LVFL she wouldn't have received a first look.Kellie Jolly Harper going to rebuild Pat's dynasty. Buyer or seller?

i'd argue that Holly's legacy as a player is every bit as good as Kelly's.Same winning % as Holly, who has had arguably some of the best talent and for sure the best facilities in all of women's college basketball. Maybe Kellie -isn't- an elite coach, but I personally think she's got a better shot at success here than Holly because we already know and have seen Harper coach Xs & Os better...if she had the same talent as Holly I think she'd have quite a few more wins.
The good news, she has her shot to prove that. I've already said it might not have been the best hire that could be made, but it could very well be the best hire for the Lady Vols. Short of Holdsclaw or Parker not many former players have the sort of legacy that Kellie Jolly does.
