I agree with all that. Whether it was solely fan perception or a persona fostered by Barnes, I don't think it's unreasonable to think fans would view Barnes a little less like family and a little more like an employee. That's all I'm saying.

I agree with some comments made yesterday. Barnes turned down UK while at Texas, and then within a few years, he was fired. I think his mindset kind of changed with being too loyal.

I truly believe he enjoys East TN and the job. He has said publicly how much support they get from fans. But he’s not just going to be blindly loyal and realizes he can get terminated at any time. He does stress family, and his family includes his assistants. Part of it was a power play for his assistants to get more money so that he can continue to succeed.

This could be back somewhere in the forum but I'm not reading 100 pages just to find this out, has anyone leaked CRB's new salary yet? Can't find it in any articles that are about him staying just speaks of a counter by UT no numbers

Why hug your loved ones? We all go away eventually.

Don't disagree with any of that.

LOL, many feel that way. You're blind if you think people don't view Barnes differently than before the standoff.
no, i'm not.

i just recognize that this is exactly as you said, a perception issue, that you, and those that think like you, have allowed to happen based on no factual information.

this perception is based soley on speculative narratives pushed over the last 48 hours. and every bit of the information yesterday that was being leaked was leaked from the UCLA side of the table.....

at the end of the day, the only thing you can probably reasonably say is 100% true is that Barnes wasn't satisfied with the level of support he thought he shoudl have for his entire staff.

he didn't apply for a job at UCLA, they came to him. and he used that as a means to an end.

that's it. what you think about it, is just based on stuff you've allowed yourself to be influenced by....

And I said that earlier. So you think that perception should be allowed to change based on what happened or do you think they should be forced to keep the perception they had earlier, correct or not?

what happened that should change anything? my perception hasn't changed at all. cause the only thing i know that happened is that he was offered a $5m job to go to a, historically speaking, blue blood Basketball program and TN counted and was able to retain him.

my percepiton is that Rich Barnes chose TN over UCLA (even tho they offered less than UCLA) and that TN finally did what it should do in regards to being committed to having winning athletic programs.
