To me, that only matters if you could land Izzo or Wright by paying them $4.7 mil, and I don't think we could. Izzo and Wright are where they want to be, and more often than not, that comes at a discount to the school.I don’t know man. He’s making 500K more than Izzo. $1M more than Jay Wright. I’m all for pay raises and rewarding guys but not like Barnes is out here making Final Fours.
You don't math, do you?It is a wash for us - we get 5 million for Barnes we have to pay 5 million or whatever for Izzo or Drew or Beard.
The point is UCLA already baked in paying the buyout and 5 million a year and none of those guys were biting. Why would they bite here? Give me some objective reasons why being the BBall coach at UT at the same pay is the better job than UCLA and I'll listen. Otherwise it's fantasy land.
All of this before or after we threw out 4.7mil ? That kind of figure attracts big names.

Barnes has a house 20 minutes away from me in Debordieu Colony (I actually know the exact address). He was never moving to LA. I feel like this dude played UT for a raise. And for that, it kind of pisses me off.
Well, we have a coach, so that's a start.
Did I miss where UCLA reached the #1 ranking this year?
Have you seen the upgrades at TBA and the locker room?
Attendance?
S16?
Where did you read that? Do you have any more red herring? And to answer that question, they are not in different stratosphere. UCLA has some history that is nice, but it's been fading since about the 70s. See the Lady Vols for how quickly that ceases to matter.
"Firing"? Man, you are all over the place, except on point.I'm saying that Barnes is responsible for much of what you posted so not paying him and hoping you can bring in some of his caliber or higher is a risk.
I rarely see a coach at highly successful program (Mich St., etc.) decide it's time to go to a non-historic program just for more money.
So, firing Barnes for the hope you could get a top 10 coach seems like a pipe dream. Smart money is keeping him and keeping the momentum going.

The smart move would have been to let Barnes walk and offer Bruce Pearl 3.2mil a year. He currently makes 2.8mil at Auburn...I'm saying that Barnes is responsible for much of what you posted so not paying him and hoping you can bring in some of his caliber or higher is a risk.

Yeah let's offer Cal 6 mil and a lifetime Dollywood pass.So really, why is everyone so happy about this?
We had a coach, he was about to leave, we had to give him more money to stay, and now we still have the same coach...I mean, if the university is going to pay that kind of coin, why not just hire someone else who doesn’t have a 24-24 tournament record?

That’s fine but if we are gonna pay that much money then expectations should be raised. S16’s and no conference tournament titles won’t cut it anymore.
Still think Barnes being the third highest paid coach in college ball ludicrous.
The fact that no one will go to UCLA at this point destroys your theory that it is considered a premier position in the coaching industry.I still haven't seen any reason to believe one of those coaches you mentioned would leave their programs to come to a Tennessee if they won't leave to go to a UCLA.
