He is not worth 5 million a year

Barnes is better than Pearl.

AUB had a better season DUE TO THE POSTSEASON.

AUB was top ten preseason. Fell out the rankings and was unranked most of the year. We were number 1 a while month. We finished higher in conference. We got a higher seed. We won more games.

Yet . . . Better year because they got further.

Even with those facts people say the Sweet 16 year was bad because a unranked team in the preseason didn't win 25 games and get a high seed. We won when it counted.

I'll take 21 wins with a Sweet 16 and one bad call from an Elite Eight over 26 wins and a exit in the round of 32 against an underdog every single time. That is a better year.

Just like AU had the same expectations as us this year with a way worse regular season. But still had a better year. The regular season only matters for tourney seeding. Overall wins and losses don't matter.
You realize Auburn had a big injury early in the year, right?

Would be interesting to know how much bball made this year vs football last year??
Profit wise I nean!

I would consider 5 mill if he was 45-50 not 64. I think he want's to stay here. If Fulmer is going to be an AD here then he must make all the coaches feel appreciated , not going to work if they all feel like afterthoughts after football. Not saying that is what has happened just reading between the lines from OP on here.

Not in basketball, Not when you are a sweet 16 coach. And not when you have 1 conference tourney in 30th years of coaching.

Cal is not worth 9 million, I will add.
He is worth what the market bears. If one or more teams are willing to pay it then that’s his value. UT football tickets haven’t really been worth their face value for over 10 years...and yet we continue to fill Neyland most every Saturday game.

If you are referring to me I have never once put down Barnes at all.

He is a HOF and the best coach we have ever had by a wide margin.

Anyone who knows basketball knows AU had a better year than us. A Final Four trumps even an undefeated regular season. You are obviously a casual who only watches UTbball if you think we had a better season.

All my Zo stuff has been facts. Dispute them if you can.
Ive been watching and attending games my entire life. Ive been die hard since the late 70s.

Dont assume. It doesnt suit you. Ive already proved you wrong in another thread. You conveniently disappeared.

Just have a logical discussion and stop trying to forcefeed how great CM was.

I still have never put down Barnes. He is way better than Pearl, Martin or any other coach from UT.

Martin also had a better first few years. Numbers don't lie.

I’m not saying Barnes is worth 5 mil, but I think it’s worth 5 mil (especially if you have it) not to take the chance on someone else.

As we saw this year, and what casual bball fans fail to understand, is that the postseason is what matters. If you win 30 something games and lose in the first round your year sucked.

Look at AUB. Top ten preseason. Bad regular season. Not even ranked most if the year.

Won in the postseason. Turned their year into a great year. No one will remember all the regular season losses and disappointment.

Who had a better year, UT or AUB?

AUB. Because they went further.

No, the only thing that really matters is the winner in tonight's Championship game. Nobody really remembers the Final 4 except for the fans of that team.

You don't think Duke is one of the best in the country. They certainly have the best player hands down. They barely survived the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Virginia - lucky in a way that we weren't.

Auburn should've been gone after 1st round. Kid missed 2 of 3 at the end of the game. Pulled out a 1 point win.

There were some disappointments this year. Plenty of disappointments. There were plenty of highs as well. This ain't womens basketball where 4 to 6 teams really only have a chance to win.

Like many of the teams discussed above for the second year in a row this team was taken out by a buzzer beater. It happens.

Back to whether or not Barnes is worth $5 mil. I don't know but Coach Fulmer has to figure that out. That is a lot of money. I sure would hate to have to start over as a program when Coach Barnes is building momentum. Coach Barnes has to know going to UCLA is a risk. It seems like a bad cultural fit, the expectations would be high, he is older and the cost of living doesn't compare. Maybe $4 mil here would get it done.

A person is worth what somebody is willing to pay. We see it all of the time in sports and it almost makes no sense. Some work out and some don't. It seems UCLA is inflating the market but did Coach Fulmer do the same with some of his assistant coach hires for football?

I will leave the Martin vs Barnes comparisons to those that just want to argue but as others have pointed out Barnes is much more respected and knows what he's doing.

I like Barnes but $5 mil makes him #3 in pay in college basketball. No way I pay that.

If you were rich.......I mean really rich would you over pay to keep Barnes, keep consistancy, keep an actual good coach..........or over pay (pay over a mil anyway) for the next Shaka Smart..........except a name that big isn’t out there and isn’t coming.

You over pay for what you know or you over pay for the unknown.

So what ..... aint his call .... coach BB and earn that 4.7 mil and quit fizzling in the tourney way ahead of time with the kind of team we have
Ummmmm......that was tongue-in-cheek. So both Auburn and Virginia had good luck smile on them to get to the FF. You do understand luck and fortune and officiating has a big role in this, right? Or maybe not.

I’d pay the man 5 and wouldn’t go any higher. He’s taken the program to new heights this year and has elite talent coming in. Pay his a**.

Looks in vain for evidence Barnes took this team to elite eight. Begins to question if poster knows what the expression means.

This is such a cringe tier response. Tautology isn’t an argument. And for the record worth and market clearing price aren’t actually the same thing.
