And you were certainly wrong with your assessment of the reasoning........as it did not even apply because we are talking about a new rule.

The student athletes “role” is to get an education. They are provided the opportunity because of the “athlete” part. Both the school and the student are compensated because of this. But their role is certainly to get an education............if not why would they even be there? As you stated they could go elsewhere. The NCAA themselves even stat education is the main concern the main goal. Heck every student has secondary goals.
And no enrollment status is not based solely on grades.......there is also behavior, there is character, there is liability..... all kinds of stuff.
Student athletes, just like non athlete students have to abide by, accomplish, stick to, all kinds of things in order to stay enrolled, student athletes simply have to add the athletic part.........but not to KEEP enrollment, but simply to keep their scholarship and to keep playing.
