Of course that will not be obeyed by all. NO law is. That has never and should never be a reason to fail to enact a law.
It would reduce the number of guns that currently so easily make their way into the hands of criminals. It may place a little burden on the law abiding citizen, but again, what law doesn't?
Society determines when the trade off is warranted.

We were talking about buying guns LEGALLY in order to sell them ILLEGALLY.

And please don't give me that asinine crap about it already being illegal to purchase a gun with the intent to resell it illegally. EVERYONE know that is utter BS.

Had Hillary won with both houses being controlled by republicans, what you saw from the left in response to Trump's victory would not have amounted to a drop in the bucket compared to the sh!t storm that would have faced Hillary. There would have been multiple special prosecutors and an even more worthless 2 years from congress, 2018 would not have seen the blue wave, and 2020 would have been pretty much a republican lock. In the grand scheme of things it was better for Trump to be the anchor that drug the nation to its lowest point.

Plus, my life is fine. I'm Trump proof (for the short term - nobody is Trump proof in the long term). I'm a 58 year old upper middle class married heterosexual white male living in the x-burbs of GA. I'm the blueprint Trumper, except maybe for my education and active brain wave activity.

That's already required for a licensed dealer. Even if they are at a gun show. There is no "gun show loophole."

Requiring a background check on a private sale is akin to requiring a background check to sell a buddy a TV or football tickets.

And it's not the same at all. Felons and minors can buy TVs and football tickets.
How many people are going to estate sales and buying 300 TVs a year so they can turn around and sell them illegally.

Sure you do...a catastrophic expansion of government invasiveness that would make the IRS blush. Cataloging all firearms and ownership is the only possible way to track who is selling what to whom and the only legal way to have any firearm is to have it associated with a specific name or group. (Picture a trust like that set up for suppressors) Of course Red Flag type laws, with ever expanding criteria, will be keeping all us peasants in line and doling out who can have what...all under the largesse of your benevolent overseers of course.

It would completely depend on what led to the point of them having to pick a side, how well informed they were, and their established leanings. It would be split - the ratio is unknowable.
