Young talented teams win BIG on the men’s side! He don’t have the balls to fire her! Why? I don’t know, pretty sure he has the fans support to pull the trigger!!!

"Our Lady Vols basketball team is a much younger squad. They’ve battled back recently from some adversity early in the SEC play, but progress is evident — a recent road win at Missouri was a great example of impressive execution on both ends of the floor in crunch time. They’ve won five of their last seven games, and I expect Coach Warlick’s team to continue to grow and gain confidence as we march toward the postseason."

Sounds like a vote of confidence to me.
He is letting her know in a polite way to put up or shut up in my opinion.

I agree tha
Get a grip folks. What did you expect him to say? "Yep, I'm firing that no good blankety-blank right after the season ends."

It is clear that Fulmer has no interest and/or viable option for a late season coaching change so of course, he is going to say supportive things at this point in the season. The real assessment and decision will come at the end of the season.

Really, it is not that complicated. Public statements like these are always calculated ones and not the direct expression of actual plans that are going on behind the scenes.
t
Coach Fulmer is a friend of Holly Warlick and that along with the Tennessee athletic department being in the red means she will be Tennessee women's basketball coach for many years to come.

Number one, and foremost, I think it is premature to make a judgment on Fulmer's statement. How many times have we heard an AD say complimentary things about a coach and six months later the coach is out the door? One thing I did get out of his comments was there is an expectation that the Lady Vol's BB program will move forward. Right now the program is moving backward. The only thing we can hope for is that Fulmer will do the right thing before the program hits rock bottom. It is sad that many top colleges allow their women's programs to go into the toilet as opposed to their men's program. Title IX should take a look at this situation.

I'm sure he has been getting emails and phone calls. I think they have to finish the season strong get to the NCAA. Still a strong possibility we want make it. SC loss really puts us back to must win the last two and I am not at all confident we can beat Ole Miss on the road. Of course if we take care of SC were in and expect to see her back next season.

Do we know what context the statement was made in? That he chose to issue a statement on the state of the program at all seems an acknowledgement of big problems to me. At least he's awake.

Even if the statement is clueless and full of coach speech faux optimism.

I choose to sustain myself by thinking this is the pat on the back that proceeds the shove out the door.

Not every thing is literal in language. Sick at my stomach is a common expression that often describes something that upsets you.

And yes I am very upset at the current condition of the LV BB program. I have closely followed LV BB since 1984 as a student at UT, prior to Pat’s phenomenal success.
IMO, UT is three years too late in firing CHW and Fulmer’s statement was unnecessary. If he really believes that the team winning 5 of 7 is a sign of progress, then UT has bigger problems in the AD than Holly.
Ok.

People complained because Phil hasn’t said anything. So he comes out and says what is politically correct, at this time, and people still complain. Let the season unfold and watch what happens afterwards. Hopefully Holly resigns or is reassigned a position within the Athletic Department. If not then we should be concerned.

What, pray tell, does he do then? Who takes over for the teddy if the season that will satisfy the bloodlust of the fanbase. Even if he pulls the trigger, the fans will still complain if the team doesn't go undefeated the rest of the season and wins a NC. He will do what is needed when the timing is right.

"I expect Coach Warlick’s team to continue to grow and gain confidence as we march toward the postseason."

The only part of his statement I care about. I read it as "if they make the NCAA tournament, status quo." If they don't though ...

Well, Holly will never reach the standard Pat set. No final fours in eight years, Pat averaged one about every three years. If Fulmer is ok with that, he’s ok with mediocrity.

Agreed.

Holly is the same coach that said a few years ago that she didn't know what to do to make the team better. She also said this year that they were supposed to lose to Notre Dame.

Is this really a head coach we want running the program?
we say every year we are gonna lose to bammer. I don't know if ive ever heard a football coach sat it out loud though.

After reading some of the comments on here about Fulmer makes me realize how stupid some of you really are. Self indulgent narcissistic noobs without a brain.

Stupid, self indulgent narcissistic or not, it is a reality that, no matter how much you might want to roll with Holly, she is not the answer. She had a great start, however, the last three years, the program has been headed South. To think otherwise is being brainless and being immersed in the epitome of delusional irresponsibly.

There’s ways you can word being disappointed or frustrated. She should understand by now that it isn’t just the team it’s the coaches from top to bottom. After all that’s where it starts. Being accountable for the product you put out goes a lot farther than throwing folks under the tire of a semi. He knows they’re underachieving and to come out and say it’s because they’re young is Butch Jones stuff. Remember what he used to say after being resilient? We’re the youngest team blah blah. Ive been saying it for months Fulmer will drag this out and most likely give her passes because of her relationship with Pat.
