Still think we could be shopping grad transfers after spring practice. We'll know where the biggest holes are then. If Shrout and Maurer haven't progressed as hoped, we could spend a spot on an experienced QB. If there are academic risks we can get qualified, we could sign one or two late. IDT we're through.

Rumor has it Chaney is pleasantly surprised with Maurer already.

Garland is the most likely to contribute out of the redshirt freshman that didn’t play last year.
Based on what exactly? Guys like Garland, Emerson, and Harris are basically all unknowns at this point.

Given the staff's pursuit of 2 JUCOs and a grad transfer on the DL, I'd say the safer assumption is that we don't see much meaningful contribution from any of those guys outside of our 3 cupcake games or garbage time in blowouts.

I as soon as i saw they had Emerson “4th string” at NT behind a freshman who was moved to guard last season and behind a high school kid I stopped reading.

Yeah I believe it was fairly widely reported that Kingston Harris has moved to Guard, and only came back to the DL at the end of the year because of injury to someone else (don't recall who). But basically they just needed a body. The staff liked his potential at OG.

There were a few other things slightly off in that article, but was still a decent read if only because it's still 6+ months away from kick off and I'm thirsty over here.

One thing I did notice from that article was how many freshman and sophmores will be/should be getting significant playing time next year. Come 2020 and on, we should have a pretty salty defense.

Pretty sure it was said that Garland looked most poised to start if he had to last year.

Kingston stuff was strange. Staff liked what he was doing defensively but the Smith/Kennedy stuff fixed their hand to have someone ready just in case. Then once they made it to backend they moved him back. My guess is he stays on defense with how we recruited OL

Really? I thought I read on VQ or 247 that the staff liked his future at OG and the move back was just out of necessity. I do think with our class though, we have some flexibility there.

I doubt he’s benching 450... not at this point anyways.

Much more likely an OL or DL
Yeah wouldn’t be JJP. He was out of shape but not out of control. He still played in games this past season.
Just trying to think what makes the most sense. Wouldn’t be back squat because that’s too light. No one talks about front squat. 450 power clean or squat clean would be insane. Seems like bench makes the most sense. Especially considering Roman and Elijah do that as HS seniors (410lbs). My bet is on Crosby. He was 6’1 350 when he got here, i believe was only backsquatting around 535 just last off season (Jalen Hurts backsquatted 500lbs in HS). A former 4 star NT, i hope he has a breakout season. Now would be the best time for that. If he’s made that much weight loss and strength gains, good stuff
