I've talked to some U of SC people who think that Fitz leaving is one of the main things that lead to Spurrier's decline. They said he was outstanding at transforming player bodies. Bigger, stronger, faster, he can build them. We have one of the best.

I have heard the same from the one SC fan who is not too insufferable. 😂

eh. it is what it is. if he's healthy, and he's eligible, he helps the DL a lot. period.
Not to mention the young guys like Mincey have experience coming back. They played last year as freshmen as the 2nd string. DL will be better with Gooden and Solomon and the experienced guys backing them up. Hopefully Williams lives up to the hype

Mincey played, but i wouldn't exactly say he's "expercienced".

there's a lot of ? marks on the DL next year. the only one that has any real production is Gooden.

i like the potential of a lot of htose guys, but it's definitely a ? headed in.

Mincey and Garland were both a little light if i recall, and looking at what Fitz did with guys over the winter/spring last year I’m confident we’re going to look at lot bigger once the OW game rolls around.

Yes, since he played significant snaps, that means he's experienced.

Gooden is as good or better than anyone we had last year. Solomon is better than anyone we had last year. Them two together > last year.

Does Mizzou have any quality senior DL that we could take from the transfer portal? How about one of their running backs? That Crockett guy able to transfer?

here's the thing though....the OL was dreadful last season....but many times the reason for that is they weren't even blocking the right people or had no clue who to block or when. lot's of mental issues/communication issues up front on the OL last season.

you fix that, just that, and you at least probably eliminate the game changing disasterous type plays we experienced in several games last year....they may still get beat physically....that's one thing.

but let defenders go untouched to the QB or the RB in the backfield......and create devestating plays against us....

that alone could be worth a game or two. get an infusion of talent from the young guys and hope they pick up on things pretty quickly, and who knows.

I agree that mental mistakes were just as big an issue as not having physically talented OL, but I’m not sure that will be an easy fix. Especially if we have to lean on Morris and/or Wright in a very big way. That’s asking a lot.

As for that alone being worth an extra win or two, maybe. Idk. It might have gotten us one more last year (USCe), but the OL wasn’t bad that game anyway.

on the DL, it's just ?'s cause we haven't seen any real production from who's coming back. and there's still hope Aubrey Solomon can play in 19.....so we'll see how that develops. but definitely a question mark heading in.

IMO DL was way higher potential than the OL this year. But there are just so many question marks and we need our JUCOs to be ready to make high level contributions right out of the gate. Until we find out Solomon is eligible and healthy, I’m not getting my hopes up too high for them.
