Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

I have a serious question for the group. Forget about the tight lid on this OC search but does anyone get the impression that Pruitt doesn't give a rats ass about any fan base? He doesn't let any of his coaches talk to the media and he will barely talk to the media himself. I get the impression that he would just prefer to be a coach and not have to deal with any outside distractions. I don't think he understands the passion this fan base has for UT football. I don't think he's gonna change either---we have what we have so lets just hope he can get it done on the field.

Pruitt is as autistic as Saban (although, I seem to recall reading that Fulmer specifically allowed him to get out of a lot of media obligations while he got his bearings as a first year coach). That's fine for a while but pretty soon he'll have to either start winning or interacting more. I don't mind it personally but a lot of fans do and every coach needs the goodwill of the fanbase.

That’s not what I’m saying, just that Pruitt needs better players far more than he needs a playcaller. The best mechanic in the world can only make a Dodge Stratus do so much.

I would argue that Texas had far less talent than UGA and was able to compete. With the right hire, UT could compete right away. I believe there is enough talent already on campus for the right coach to make a difference as opposed to waiting 3-4 years to out talent teams

I hope Matthews was right and it was 95% done, if we were dragging it out because of missing on our targets, we have entered silly season where the competition for OC talent has risen dramatically

Not sure we could really say that other than him recruiting studs at USC but everyone has done that. He has been out of recruiting cycle for a long while and in that absence we have a new signing period and he has a slightly tarnished image.
I still believe he would have some pull on the trail. Mainly for his USC exploits but can also lean on his NFL experience which to most recruits would be looked at as mostly positive I believe. He hasn't had a issue that we know of since his USC embarrassment either.

was really surprised at how well Texas DL held up in that game, and underwhelmed with Georgia OL

Honestly, it reminds me of starting a job as a prof. You're told teaching and service is nice, but your tenure relies heavily on grants and publications. Hedge your bets and allot your time accordingly...

Pruitt learned from quite a few folks that winning matters more than kissing babies and talking to the QB club every week. If you win, no one cares (i.e. Saban). If you don't win enough, it doesn't matter how nice a guy you are (Richt).

I still don’t think we have the o-line yet.

I don't disagree. My comments were more about avoiding a run away train of expectations once a preferred candidate enters discussion.

Of course, just when you think KK getting interviews is out there, here comes the news that Cincy is interviewing Hue Jackson for their HC vacancy. Wow.
True! That’s plain stupid! How many lives that cat got? It’s like the NFL is trying to prove it’s not racist at this point!

With this being drug out like it is, im wondering if it ls enos. Fulmer at the orange bowl, good recruiter, seems like a fit on Pruitta staff and Pruitt is familiar with him. If Chaney isnt announced by tomorrow than my money is on Enos

My fear is that Pruitt truly feels that the OC isn’t important until they can hoard enough talent in that he believes just about any will do and we miss on all the talented candidates. Probably a dramatic overreaction on my part but plausible

Fit with current staff better be #1. If a guy can't work well with Pruitt and mesh with the staff dynamics, then it's going to be Helton all over again. Or worse.
If you had to guess - external or internal hire & if external any guys you think he has repoir with?

This is probably how I feel. He made some odd calls in his first year at UGA. But he is a stabilizer, and we could do worse. I always thought he knew how to scheme the TE. I think he made Mychal Rivera money.
Although I "like" a Chaney hire I would agree with this assessment of why.
