It was Christmas 1977. I was onboard a fast attack submarine a few miles off the coast from the port of Vladivostok. It was still the Cold War and our mission was to track the comings and goings of the Soviet submarine fleet based at the port. I was 21 years old and most of my fellow submariners on watch in the engineering spaces that Christmas Eve night were pretty much the same age, give or take a year or so.
Our watch shift was four hours long and all of us that could gathered around Maneuvering (control room) and I think we sang Christmas carols for the entire shift. We may have sang every song in the book, some probably twice. It obviously wasn’t my best Christmas but it was memorable nonetheless and as usual for almost everyone, only because of those you share it with.
To one and all who gather here, I wish for you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a joyous and prosperous happy New Year and a special shout out to all those who can’t make it home for the season, especially our men and women in uniform. May God bless you all, everyone.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Offensive Coordinator!Merry Christmas Eve my brothers and sisters.
I just wanted to update you on my son. Thank you all for praying for him couple days ago. His fever spiked once again but stayed down for the better part of 12 hours. Probably should have taken him to the hospital. He’s now being treated for strep and ear infection. I can handle that, we’ve done that a dozen times it seems. His little brother is exhibiting symptoms too. This Christmas break has been a struggle but I know where my help comes from and it’s especially topical this Christmas.
And thank you for providing some levity and an escape from this madness. Thank you for praying. Go Vols! Hope we get a shiny new OC for Christmas... it is Tomorrow ya know![]()
True and I'd probably be mad if they got our players for this.it's a muscle mass type supplement. GNC has it
It really is saving the life of the driver and his or her potential victims. My Uncle lost part of his leg and his son to a drunk driver but as mad as it makes me due to the pain it causes, rationally, I know the action wasn't intentional. It was just a drunk man too blitzed to know he shouldn't be driving. I want us to have a very frank national conversation about it because I'm tired of seeing people die from something we're too scared to address. Citizens can and should step in -- it won't always work but we owe it to everyone, including ourselves, to help prevent a tragedy. I truly believe the way to reduce these tragedies is by regular folks and workers stepping up. It's uncomfortable but we need to talk about not letting it happen in the first place. Laws won't prevent it but people who stand up can.
It should actually be considered pre-meditated murder. If no death, then assault with a deadly weapon.
There should be no leeway. Stiffest possible penalty.
This is definitely not a turn the other cheek situation. Neither is it forgive and forget.
Lost a world-renowned Burn Surgeon to a drunk driver while he was driving in to save lives. That drunk driver has essentially also killed all the people that could have been saved by the Burn Surgeon.
