Doug Matthews just reiterated...

Doug "Vandy" Matthews doesn't know shiite. It doesn't matter who the next OC is. Might as well be Friend. It's a one year gig anyway. If we lose to Vanderbilt again next year, Pruitt will be gone too, along with his Friend.

If there's one guy that I believe, it's Matthews. He said he didn't know who would be the next HC, and all the sudden Schiano was just about to be rammed down our throat.

I was leaning to Friend, but it just does not make sense to hold that back. Plenty of guys are still out there that could have made an agreement / college and NFL.

There's no way that Pruitt gets just two years to make or break.

Yeah,
The OL is piss pore and Friend has to get the job done.

:) you may wish that to be so, but we both know it's not.

Besides, its still WF until it isn't. I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong.

but I'm not

I guess it depends on your definition of "Grudenites". No one ever brings him up except the ones that always cried about being tired of hearing about him. Lol. Check the stats on that.

It isn't Will Friend, until it is.

Not trolling..but I sincerely believe that the longer this goes, the more certain it's Friend.
Anything's possible. Don't believe it would have been the plan because it would have happened much sooner.

Absolutely don't believe the "scaring recruits" theory because recruits really seem to like him. I would be a little disappointed just because I want someone with more experience. Otoh, he's actually been an OC before (unlike some previous) and honestly, wasn't bad at all. Nothing to be scared about.
We just made him the sign of complete failure when it was 'Freeze or bust'. Cause, that's what we do. 😎

I'm not trolling one bit, and I don't mean to seem like a jackleg anymore than normally, but in my opinion its ridiculous for them to wait this long.

No way it was him from the beginning. No way at all.

IF, they got turned down and or passed on everyone they were interested in and had no other choice, I'll concede that's possible, although I think that too is ridiculous. But even at that, the longer they wait the dumber its would look and I refuse to think they are that dumb.

But, what do I know. I've been wrong about 95% of everything I've thought during every coaching search since 2009.

Do we know:
1. If Pruitt has offered the job to any candidate?
2. If Pruitt has actually interviewed anyone for the position?
3. How many people on VN need Xanax because of this OC search?
My guess is no one that can prove it truly knows the answer to questions 1 or 2 but that many people can hold their hand up to #3.
It doesn't matter what fans think or want or imagine in their heads. And, it really doesn't matter who Pruitt hires — chances are high that we won't be good offensively next year anyway. It is going to take at least a couple more recruiting classes before we are good on either side of the ball.

Offense should be better quicker than defense will
Kennedy, Smith & incoming linemen should make line better next year.
Banks & Chandler & Jordan can run.
JG is limited
Jennings, Calloway & Palmer are good
Woody is good but under utilized
Would like to see 150 yards rushing. 300 yards passing

I listened to some of DM's abbreviated Football Saturday broadcast yesterday. He had switched from saying 95% done to 'Pruitt and Fulmer are not worried about OC situation, so I'm not going to worry about it.' It really sounded like he's changed his report but he did not spend a lot of time on the subject. He did say that he'd focus on recruiting today and he'll probably spend at least half the time talking with Bill Justice about the basketball game. I imagine he won't spend much time on OC search today but I really hope he will address whether something changed that made him back off 95% or does he still think it's done and we're just waiting on the right time to announce. I don't expect him to name names but several reporters have suggested that Yurcich walked to the alter with us and then became the runaway bride.

Which is a bad sign. Something is wrong at UT behind the scenes still if we are having such a hard time landing an OC.

So many conclusions drawn in here, it's a wonder some of you aren't Charles freaking Schulz. "Well it's not THIS answer, therefore it must be THIS answer! SMDH. Some of you sound like Bigfoot researchers or UFO chasers.

The issue is a bad OL, an average QB, and a head coach that may meddle in the offense too much. Hard to attract OCs in an age where they want to coach 1 or 2 seasons, show their potential, then get a HC gig.

Sounds like Doug is just running block for his buddy Phil, I guess its 96.8% done now.

Why would he “run block” for the AD, when the AD isn’t making the hire? What’s your logic in saying this?

Pruitt is making the hire....maybe/at point/perhaps/one of these days.

I'm not doubting Doug, but I just wonder, unless it's an NFL guy (and it very well could be) what's the point of all the secrecy? You'd think Pruitt would want to announce this right away and get his guy here as soon as possible to help with recruiting and start working on installation for next season. We finished 5-7 and lost to Vandy for the 3rd straight year. Urgency is the ONLY word that needs to be on them damn Nike shirts for next year.
I’m doubting Doug.
