Doug Matthews just reiterated...

I wasn't aware he claimed any info came from anywhere. I've seen tweets from him through this whole search and he seems to be getting a lot of information from somewhere. Most would assume it was from Phil. Where does Phil get it? Is Phil not part of the Staff? He didn't specify the "coaching staff".

If he said " the coaching staff is not talking" I could see you not having a beef with it.

Seems like people are either overthinking this or trying a bit too hard to split hairs on this.

I think what you're saying is exactly what my reaction is and taking it on the surface: Matthews says there are no leaks, yet is giving some somewhat detailed information that had to come from someone inside (likely Fulmer given the obvious relationship).

Now Matthews may not view himself as "the media" and isn't counting himself, but he is the media now.

I doubt Matthew's thinks he's fooling anyone with his info coming from anywhere else but Fulmer.

I dont consider Fulmer part of the coaching staff and I dont think Matthew's does either when he uses the term without specifically attaching coaching to it.

He might not, but it gets back to what I said earlier where he seems to be dancing around tecnicalities.

The benefit to Jeremy is, he gets a better feel for which coaches really know their stuff, and have personalities, value systems, and coaching outlooks that might mesh with his. Never hurts to gain more intel on the field, refine your short list.

The benefit to every single one of the guys being interviewed is, it gets their name out there and increases their value in the market. Who knows, maybe being desired by Bama (last year) and Tennessee this year helped Freeze land the HC job at Liberty.

On top of that, some of the interviewees might indeed see the possibility of working for Pruitt in the future, even if it won't be this year. Getting known is just as valuable to up-and-comers as building a database of short list options is to the head coaches.

Yea, I'm just not buying it. Hope I'm wrong, but it I can't make it make sense.

If he's got an OC locked..

Why not announce it? I know I know, no one can answer that.

Why continue to interview for info for the future when the present seems to be pretty freaking important.

I mean, I'm not the freaking out type, but I've trusted and supported Phil and Jeremy since the beginning and I admit, I'm a little curious and impatient and a bunch of this just doesn't add up.

One of two things will happen in a week or three, Behr.

(a) The OC will be announced, we'll all go "ahhhhh," and you'll admit you shouldn't have doubted; or

(b) The OC will be announced, we'll all go "huh?" and I'll admit Doug Matthews was talking out his butt.

Either way, i'm chill until then, because there's not a single thing I can or should do about it. :) It helps to only check in on these boards for a half hour in the morning, and another half hour in the evening. Looking too often is known to cause mouth-breathing.

The average Vols fan (I always use my family for a read on what an average Vols fan is doing, because none of them fixate on the team from Sunday to Friday; they read articles in the paper, but that's it) ... the average Vols fan isn't at all worried about this hire. Most of them are only barely aware that we're in the market for an OC. Heh, that's the way to live as a Vols fan, these days. *thumbsup*

...but does he know Al Wilson? Volman365 does. That's where the juicy stuff comes from
I'm guessing here again (because Doug has never told me directly he knows AL nor have I've seen them conversing together)but I bet he has heard of Al Wilson...JMO:D

I think we're going around in circles beech, It comes down to I feel like he's (Doug) being misleading and I don't trust him.

I doubt Pruitt cares at all how you will feel about his OC hire.
That is the bottom line in all of this...I've even see threats made like "it better not be yada yada yada or he'll be sorry"...but that stuff does make me chuckle a bit...;)

Lulz, tl;dr.

I know dude, I agree 100%, but I've felt like jumping in today and discussing and arguing, so just stfu. :)

@PulaskiVolFan

Pretty weak sauce to call a bunch of people moaning and groaning Idiots then run off, and not respond when questioned.
This whole thing is ridiculous, fans fighting with each other over a hire that has probably already been made. This board looks like 5th grade recess, a bunch of juveniles popping off at the mouth!

Well maybe you don’t want a name out there to stop other programs from talking about your guy to possible recruiting targets.
Maybe CJP is making staff changes and doing that prior to signing date could cause you to lose recruits.
Maybe there are contract considerations that none of us are aware of.
Maybe the new OC has requested our cooperation with his current position prior to leaving.
Maybe the current staff is quietly looking for other positions.
Maybe we don’t need to know everything that’s going on, so we can save on replacing mattresses.

Well if it’s ever proven that he knowingly gave out incorrect information then he ought to be done as a media entity.
Hell, the same could be said about CNN every single day. Doug Matthews does not owe you or me a single thing and can report it any way he's sees fit. Just because you have this big conspiracy theory going on in your ahead concerning Matthews and Fulmer doesn't mean its true.

Says the guy that called everybody moaning and groaning Idiots.

I've seen some of your discussions, and when I stop laughing and figure out how I can better address this, I will.

Whether he considers himself media or not (if he even cares) is irrelevant. He has a well known relationship and a stage to talk on.

Which begs the question why Matthews would put anything out there given his publically known relationship to Fulmer.

If he made it up or hasn't confirmed it, why risk his relationship with Phil by starting a fire?
If it's legit info (straight from the guy it has to be cleared through) , why risk his relationship with Phil by releasing what he has been told(which still has us guessing who and when) ? Assuming he was put on a gag order.

I doubt Doug is running with anything not from or confirmed by Phil. And he's not running with that if Phil doesn't want him to.

1) I actually feel this is likely the case. Very dishonest if so and likely a dud of a hire that will cause fanbase rioting.
2) Doubtful. OCs very rarely have buyouts of any significance. The value of saving a few bucks vs the value of a highly thought of OC's effects on recruiting is a small price to pay for a recruiting bump,
3) Then he needs to stay at his current job, if he values it more than the job he's taking here.
4) Not really sure what this means in regards to the OC search.
5) See 1, they are trying to put off the crap storm til after signing day.

Not at all. I dont bother with conversations not worth having. I dont ever recall one with you.

Ignorance or willfull?

And if the later, what's his end game?

Most things related to UT Football go this way it seems. Always a head scratcher, never seems to be smooth from the outside.

Most of the time, the perceptions are correct. Let's face it, we have been a train wreck for 12-15 years.

I just come back to the simple fact that several other schools have fired and hired inside our time frame. As a fan, that makes you wonder. Time will tell.

I've never seen this option ever happen at Tennessee.... ever
