i guess i'm just gullible.
this makes sense to me and the fans DON'T have to know who the OC is going to be.
however, this is a fan board and every 'fanatic' feels they deserve to know everything about what's going on.
flame away rednecks!
If he was claiming the info came from the staff (or his known connection Phil was a staff member) and that they wern't leaking info to anyone else I could see the beef.
This is about....uhhhh...100% correct to me...good job...I'm really loving me the % sign today...Most of recruiting is about relationships. You're just not going to sway hardly any recruits with an OC hire late in the recruiting season. Possibly if someone is on the fence it might put them over but it's almost zero impact. There is almost no advantage to a quick hire except for possibly losing out to another school hiring them.
I see that no one ever answered what the benefit was to not announcing the new OC if he was already hired. I'll get even more specific when asking, what is the benefit to UT of not announcing?
Does the guy want to coach his current team for the next month like Pruitt did but not face the backlash Pruitt got for it?

That makes no sense. If you already have your guy then what information is there to gather by interviewing other candidates?
How long have you actually followed recruiting? Bc that just does not happen.Using this logic, we are not hiring a current college OC since he’d bring his recruits with him (or at least the best of the bunch.). Relat ionships, right.....(could also mean Friend getting promoted but then why wait??)
Assuming it’s a solid hire, that makes feel a better about what would have been a pretty sleazy ‘bait and switch’ for the former team’s EE’s.
I read that some recruits were told. I think it seems this search has been going on a year already.
MBRO, it actually makes a lot of sense if you read that article about Rush Probst that someone linked in another thread earlier today.
From that article: Jeremy Pruitt himself was hired for his first coaching job (high school, hired by Probst) as the result of an interview conducted AFTER Probst already hired another person to fill the vacancy. He told Pruitt, I've already filled the position, but sure, come on by. Pruitt so impressed Probst, that he changed his mind, told the other guy sorry but hit the road, and hired Pruitt instead.
The article notes that Probst has a habit of interviewing people all the time, whether he has a vacancy or not, so that he can maintain a good 'short list" if a need ever emerges. Seems smart to me.
Finally, the article stated that Pruitt has learned this trick from Probst, and seems to be applying it himself.
So. Any interviews being done now are for the future. Our new OC is already a lock. I believe Coach Matthews, he doesn't often go off half-cocked.
I could possibly see this working in the HS ranks because there is a large # of guys who played looking for jobs. Although lets be honest he doesn't seem to be interviewing up and comers. So why would Freeze, Briles, Yurich, or any other current OC want to come just to interview with him? I highly doubt they are going to waste their time to interview for sh*ts and giggles.
If this hire goes bad he may be doing interviews alright. The benefit to Jeremy is, he gets a better feel for which coaches really know their stuff, and have personalities, value systems, and coaching outlooks that might mesh with his. Never hurts to gain more intel on the field, refine your short list.
The benefit to every single one of the guys being interviewed is, it gets their name out there and increases their value in the market. Who knows, maybe being desired by Bama (last year) and Tennessee this year helped Freeze land the HC job at Liberty.
On top of that, some of the interviewees might indeed see the possibility of working for Pruitt in the future, even if it won't be this year. Getting known is just as valuable to up-and-comers as building a database of short list options is to the head coaches.
1 a possible raise 2 networking for future jobs that could benefit them all 3 Idk.I could possibly see this working in the HS ranks because there is a large # of guys who played looking for jobs.
