That's called progress :):), I've been here 19 years and watched the city grow from around 20,000 to about 180,000 in population. It will soon be around 300,000 :):). Death and taxes are two things that are always gonna be a given.
Frisco is like what Plano was when I arrived and Little Elm is already beyond what Frisco was...especially now that they’re developing that lakefront area. You’re hard pressed to find a true rural burg around the actual city.

easy to develop a vast tract of flat scrub brush.

Well, he gets a nice bump in salary, but there’s $800k that Houston is getting from somebody that maybe he could have pocketed from UT (i.e. UT pays him $1m/year, but might have been willing to pay him up to $1.3m/year if no buyout to Houston)... Or it could cost him a P5 offer conceivably.
True, it could have cost him an offer, but only if he was never a serious candidate for other OC jobs in the first place.

And his name has been mentioned for several positions. I see it as a smart play on his part. He knows he's not long for Houston, they know it too, therefore they both get something out of the deal if he leaves. Houston is compensated, so is Briles, and the prospective University gets their OC....everyone wins.

Quick note.

Last year, with Briles, FAU was 22nd in offensive efficiency (SOS) according to ESPN and averaged 40.6 PPG and 6.0 YPC (since I know how much y'all like to run the ball...) The team was 11-3, Kiffin got a big extension, and was connected to a bunch of HC jobs.
This year, without Briles, FAU was 82nd in offensive efficiency, averaging 31.1 PPG and 5.1 YPC. They went 5-7, and I haven't heard Kiffin's name once.

2017 Houston (without Briles) - 77th offensive efficiency, 28.2 PPG, 4.5 YPC
2018 Houston (with Briles) - 26th in offensive efficiency, 46.4 PPG, 5.5 YPC

This was the guy behind the crazy offense at FAU last year, not Kiffin. Best candidate available IMO and it's not close.

I thought it was $550k for each year with three years left?

Looks like 50% of that 550k per year.

Per the stipulations in his new deal, the 36-year-old Briles would owe 50 percent of his remaining base salary ($550,000 per year) for taking an play-calling offensive coordinator role at a Power 5 Conference program, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Briles will have some pretty significant baggage as well, fair or not

Not sure he fits what Pruitt wants to do

Another fact is that nearly the same o-line got worse under Friend. Even game 1 against WVU they were horrible.

I understand that we could not run the ball and we could not protect the quarterback, even against inferior opponents. Friend is stealing paychecks from the University.

I've seen a lot of dumb ish on this board over the last eight years, but this is pretty high up there.

I feel bad for whoever has to reason with you about non-Vol things if this is how you are irl.

Maybe to an extent, but there’s no doubt that signing that contract made hiring him marginally less appealing to any P5 schools that might look at him. Just seems like you would rather tell your lawyer to be “really busy” and take a few days to get back to Houston on the contract, given the circumstances.

So you think the report of an interview is wrong? They have to know about the buyout and would not proceed with an interview if not willing to pay it.
I would like to know who turned us down. Why wouldn't we hire Briles last week if he was a top 5 candidate? Something is not right here or else our UTAD doesn't know how to function. It might be the latter since we are becoming the Browns of NCAAfootball.
