He has improved as a passer? Do you have practice footage? He hasn't even thrown 60 passes this year, and he is throwing to NFL wideouts in mop up duty.

I totally agree, he's better than what we have, of course. I'm just not seeing him as some huge offseason difference maker like Cam Newton or something.
I’m not saying he’ll win the Heisman or lead us to a championship. But we are much more competitive with him.

We went from a spread zone type offense to a more multiple man-run offense. Other than against Bama and UGA, most of our offensive struggles came from mental mistakes or poor play calling. Our play caller is gone and as players can start to actually play and not think execution will get better.

So we will move up to maybe 103rd?

That’s a fair point, but it’s not much different from an AD locking up a HC. Bottom line is if you’re a coordinator who doesn’t want to have a potential buyout hanging over your head when looking to land a HC job, then you just need to negotiate up front for that to not be an issue later. But in economic terms, there should be a cost to that in terms of lower salary (or something else), because there is value to having that buyout on the school’s side.
In your analogy it would be like the university president locking up the assistant AD or lower. Doesn’t happen. The only value is keeping assistant’s from lateral moves...not ascension. Doesn’t happen...because it’s stupid.

I just think it's typical to blame it all on the QB. He wasn't good enough to overcome one of the worst offensive lines in Vols history (for 2 years in a row lol!)..... that we can agree on. I'm not trying to make the case that he was this excellent QB. He got his face blown off by defensive ends about 6 times per game. And just kept getting up playing the next play.

He gave his all for this program this year and to act like he's a moron whose head would explode because of running the RPO offense is ridiculous and bs in my opinion.

But whatever. Message boards are gonna message board I suppose. This is why I can't stay in here for more than a day. Y'all make me too mad.
No one is questioning his effort or his toughness. We all feel for the kid, especially given the OL play and the offense he is playing in.

But he is what he is. He has serious limitations as a QB in this conference, and he is no threat to run the ball whatsoever. He would get hurt within the first month if he ran the RPO, not to mention it would just look absurd.

Any info on joe osovet this year? I’ve wondered if he could potentially be an OC in waiting if/when Helton moves on. Idk. Just a thought.

I'd be down with a more established guy with Osovet next in line. Kitchens is intriguing, and now i'm gonna have to look up Brian Wright.

I think Hurts would be better. JG being the best QB in the world for the job was never my point.

Hey I like the kid. He is tough and has had to play under horrible circumstances. In some alternate reality where he has a great OL and coaching stability he may have been a great QB. That is just not the hand he was dealt and he is, for lack of a better term, damaged goods. He has been on the losing end of a lot of games and its in his head. That and his shortcomings seeing the field and lack of playmaking ability leaves us with what we have. At this point we need to part ways and a new offensive system needs to come with a new QB.
