Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

Pruitt has an offensive play sheet for the first time this week. That tells you how unhappy he was with direction of offensive playcalling. He doesn’t have a good playcaller on staff.

Satterfield seems like a home run, although I thought Fedora was a really good hire too.

I think that UNC football program is a sleeping giant. It should be much more successful than it has been.

There's a lot of in-state competition for kids in North Carolina. Especially in the Triangle.

Plus, Charlotte is actually closer to Clemson than it is to Chapel Hill.

Not recruiting wise. He sucks at that. Doesn’t do well against rivals either. Couldn’t beat Washington...so he’d be good with running away.

I guess losing to Chris Peterson and Washington (the vastly better program) is just the worst lol.

Maybe you would be the most likely to confirm this regarding Crouch.

Did he state this about the team and culture?

If he did then this is the most telling part of the story about UT Football and where we are...
It didn't start this season but it is a great Definition of Culture......
What's the question about Crouch? Did he say he wanted to go to a winning program? Yes. Did he say he didn't gel with the current players at UT well like he did at Clemson and Michigan? Yes.

Thanks so the rest of it about the culture and everybody buying in is assumptions and exaggerated.

I think we'll lose as many players as the coaches think we need to lose. Players with the wrong attitude hurt the team. I think the staff learned that lesson this year and would rather do more with less next year. Some of the guys we'll lose could end up solid players elsewhere-- just didn't come together for them here.

Quote from Crouch in Rivals article last week...

“Michigan and Clemson were probably my best two visits and the visits to Tennessee and Florida State were behind them,” Crouch said. “It's not because of the people. I'm looking at the teams. I had a great time on all the visits but I'm looking at how I would fit in. I don't think Florida State is a good fit for me right now but I'm keeping them in it because you never know what could happen.

At Florida State and at Tennessee they're going to have to rebuild and I'm not sure how their players are going to be. They've got new coaches and it almost feels like the players are used to losing. They're going to have to change the culture and that's way bigger than football. I want to go somewhere I can plug in and work with guys that are just like me. I liked all the coaches everywhere I went. Coach Woodie at Florida State I really liked. Coach Pruitt is one of my favorite coaches. He is a real peoples' coach. He keeps it real and I could see myself playing for him because he's a good dude. A lot of his former players love him too. I think he's a great linebackers coach but I'm just not sure that whole environment is for me."

Is this what you're asking for?

I thought our defense both years was middling. Hard to be the best with mediocre defense. Outside of Barnett and Gaulden, we were pedestrian.
We had a lot of players injured during that time, we should have been a top 10 team with a better head coach. Talent fail off severely after Barnett left and many others, a lot of players left because they saw where butch was leading us .

It’s not a big secret.

From Brett McMurphy

Next coach at North Carolina? @TomLuginbill just now on @SXMCollege: “Mack Brown will be the head coach for a second tenure at North Carolina. Mark it down”
Thanks. I know some Texas boosters. They swear he was always better at being a Texas HC than a HC. Meaning the golfing and buddying around with the money guys that the Longhorns job demands. He was a damn good X’s and O’s guy at Tulane and his previous stint at UNC.

Yes I knew I could count on you, thanks It said a lot about the program....and where we are at today after yesterday.

Beating good QBs is tough right now...

Great perspective from a Recruit....

nobody picked us the beat Florida. Herbie was the only one that picked us to beat WVU.

It was not the majority pick but plenty people did including most on this board. Not sure why you are trying to argue that.

That's quite a leap from what I posted. And I hope so.
I get it. I just see people pull the Saban card so often. 'Saban went 6-6.' ' Saban lost to la Monroe.' I see these things and people seldom acknowledge what Saban had already done before his first year at Bama, which was the reason he was hired and the reason the Bama fans were ready and willing to show appreciation and patience. It makes me wonder what sort of correlation people are trying to make. Probably a lot more guys who have a bad first season never really have a good one and wind up getting fired and leaving their program in turmoil than those who wind up winning a championship.

This is basically just QC saying that in EA NCAA Football if you click on Program prestige/Winning your going to find it as most important.

I think Pruitt is exactly what Pruitt is, he's a first year head coach that's feeling his way through this. I've maintained and many times been chastised for it, that I don't believe TN is a job that's suited for on the job training. Doesn'tmean Pruitt is doomed for failure but I think it puts him at a huge disadvantage. He has/is and will continue to make mistakes. His future will be determined by how well he responds to those mistakes. Previous head coaching experience should always be extremely valued when hiring a head coach for the football team at Tennessee. JMO

Oh I’m right there with you. I mean if he’d rather stay home and sacrifice time working with his team. I don’t see him as a man to consider that trifling. I could see him give two ____ about winning a bowl... but those practices man.

We've had "want to" issues for years. Less motivated players get tired of the grind and want to go home for the holidays instead of practicing for a few extra weeks and heading to a cold-weather bowl. Seniors are candid about it every year when they leave. It's been an ongoing problem at UT since UK 2011-- the exception being the two years when UT headed to a Florida bowl. Ironically, UT could have been in contention for a Florida bowl this year if the Vols had won out after UK.
