Now it's two or three said Tennessee would go winless. In your original post, you said most had Tennessee pegged as the worst team in the SEC. Moving the goalposts. Not sure about us being favored in the 09 UGA game. You might can find some bum Egypt article that suggests that, but in large part, that was seen as a signature win. I'm going based off of what you said regarding the schedule. Once again, YOU said we had the toughest schedule in CFB. Most SOC rankings suggest otherwise.

Exactly. Fans get emotional about wins and losses each week but outcomes of the game don't mean as much to the recruits in attendance. Callahan made a post yesterday about this subject, basically said that the commits and kids interested in UT right now, even the top tier guys, aren't really influenced by wins and losses vs. Mizzou and even Vandy. They get that it's a rebuild and are buying what the coaches are selling about the future.

yeah. from a recruiting standpoint, nothing has really changed. the KY and Auburn wins were really validation of what the staff can do...a result to back up the pitch.

but the pitch was "we need help asap" before the MO game.

and that didn't change because of the result of the game.

and it won't change because of the result of the next game either.

Yep. Against UK, and also against Auburn, the interior of the DL was getting a great push.

i think the surprising thing about both of those games is how ineffective both of those defenses were against our offense. i'd argue that Auburns' was better, at least htey put us in 3rd and long...we just converted a lot of those...huge plays for us...big WR's taking advantage of the smaller DB's...match up win for us there. but up front, Auburn controlled the run game for the most part.

KY, i was expecting that to go more like the FL game up front. i'd say the KY game was probably the best game of the year for the O line....has to be.

that was a match up we shouldn't have won, but we did. some of that is because of the play calling. we dominated KY.

I think people are missing bruins point that he is just saying Ky is playing the worst of the sec east teams right now not all season. He isn't wrong. I'd have them at the top of my list to play again if I had to pick followed by Vandy, SC, Florida, GA then Mizzu. Mizzu is the one team I wouldn't want to play again this season in the East.

Recruiting is week to week, if not day to day, so probably no reason to get to low..... but it sure feels like we're polar opposite of where we were a week ago.

Logue re-affirmed his UGA commitment and will sign early.
Javonta Payton is going to Mississippi State.
Justin Eboigba really just seems to be pandering to fan bases. And we seem kind of desperate, offering PWOs' to whomever we ask him to.
Crouch is Clemson bound, albeit not official.
Haselwoods interest in us, real or perceived, has passed and hes' not an option anymore.
Harrison Bailey is allegedly Michigan bound, if you believe the VQ guys.

And I feel like I'm forgetting one or two...

Fortunately I do think we finish the class with the following:

Eric Gray
Darnell Wright
Owen Pappoe
Kenyatta Watson
Khafre Brown
Trezmen Marshall (hard to get a read on this kid, but I think the Sherrer connection gets him here)

Also, Jalil Clemons and Roman Harrison received ratings bumps, which should appease the star watchers.

I would be so much more than happy with this staff if we get all these guys-- Darnell, Gray, and the Greyson 3. Trezmen Marshall is straight out of left field and would be icing on the cake.

I've been out on the others (except Bailey, he's a 2020 guy), maybe with the exception of Logue. Him re-affirming to UGA isn't a huge disappointment though.

Yeah, I thought Auburn dominated us up front for the most part, JG just stood in there and took some shots and JJ, Callaway, and Palmer all did a great job of winning the majority of those 50/50 matchups. Our success in that game was our pressure on Stidham and shutting down their running game the 2nd half. Against UK I have no idea. I had watched UK all season and thought they would dominate the LOS on both sides of the ball. Still not sure what happened there. Not sure if UGA took that much out of them or they are just wearing down, but base on the season for both teams up to that point, they should have trucked us. I do agree with Chief that UK was probably not the 11th best team in CFB when we played, but they were still were a top 25 team, and based on matchups, were much better than UT. And watching UK pregame they seemed fired up and ready to play because even though their shot at the East was gone, they still had a shot at the Sugar Bowl. So I don't know; Stoops seems to be a far more conservative coach than even Butch because UK's offense never really attempted to challenge the UT defense that game. It was either hand off to Snell or Snell in the Wildcat, which made it pretty easy for a guy like Pruitt to scheme against.

agree with all that. though i think Stoops and Jones are definitely cut from the same cloth. as for the ranking issue....here's all i'll say to that:

the TN team coming off the worst season in its program's history, wiped the floor with the best KY team they've fielded in 40 years.

Because he was a facilities guy with a personal agenda. He viewed the stadium renos as his legacy and wanted his imprint all over it. I sat in a meeting the week before Butch Jones was fired, listening to Currie rave on and on about his grandiose renovation plan while the football program-- the engine of UT athletics-- was in flames. He wanted imposing entry gates and patio seating more than a new HC, which he absolutely didn't want at all. UT was so screwed up.

But that's behind us. The program is in good hands now.

well he was best known as a fund raiser. and if you're gonna do that, might as well have a plan for how you're gonna spend it.

As well it should. Dobbs had weaknesses that he overcame and got better. Some... he didn't. One of the things both struggle(d) with is anticipating throwing lanes. Neither manage(d) the pocket particularly well.

By year 3 of Dobbs' career he still had some issues... but through a lot of hard work he was beyond where JG is.

And again, can't we celebrate what he has improved on without going over and over and over what he has not improved on?

If I were Fulmer and we lost to Vandy Saturday I’d hold a big press conference and extend a special invite to the Chief Vols of the Volnation fanbase.

I’d let some of them have the podium for a bit to foam and moan about how much this or that coach sucks and how much this is Tennessee and we don’t have to stand for this year in and year out.

Then I’d abruptly take the mic back, tell them I don’t give a **** what any of them think, and I’d hand Pruitt a contract extension to sign right there in front of all them. Then I’d announce to all the recruits and all the other SEC school Pruitt is my man and that isn’t changing despite our stupid fanbase and we are coming after everyone of them.

That’s the final step in this rebuild I’m convinced.

The only reason anyone is panicked about a bowl game in year 1 is they are afraid if we miss it then the wheels will start coming off the bus again. Take that possibility off the table for everyone and this becomes an entirely different conversation. And it’s long past time to shoot down the stupid in our fanbase.

I generally respond to those so delusional as to claim that he has no flaws and then go on to laying blame on everyone else. If JG just made a few throws like the one KC hit early in response to a blitz... he'd get hit a lot less. But to do that, he has to make a good pre-read and pretty much set his feet and throw as soon as he gets the ball. He doesn't have time to wait and think about it.

Again, this is because people would rather ignore some pretty obvious and straight forward stuff.
