The QB Debate - post South Carolina (merged)

How come we could only win 5 games in 2012? We had great QB play. We had a QB with a strong arm, ability to read defense and blitzes. He was accurate and could throw the deep ball. So what happened?

I respect Coach Pruitt. and I respect his staff, but I'm telling you right now, this was a winnable game...period. I don't know what happened, but I'm not watching any more games this year. I expect us to beat Charlotte, but that's pretty much it...hello Butch...same ol same ol.

Thats cool. We need to weed out bandwagon fans anyway. Bye Felicia.

Im so tired of people keep bringing up his high completion hell vol nation can get out there right now and make them short throws he was making..When the game is on the line and he gotta make a big time throw just.believe it wont happen..
IT has a feel of when we tried to make a case that butch was a bad coach in yr 3

Doesn’t have “it”. Im calm.

Heck I don’t think I have “it” myself, and if I’m being honest, the “it” we are looking for in a quarterback, isn’t in either one right now, and I don’t know that we will see “it” out of either one this year. Just going to enjoy(?) the rest of the season watching football and continue to hope that next year is our year, like I’ve been doing.

Peyton Manning wouldn’t have survived VN back in the 90’s.

Every little damn thing some of you can find to put down JG is absolutely pathetic. He’s took so many hits this season but kept managing to get back up.

As bad as I’d hate to say it, a part of me wishes JG would transfer out to another school where he can put up great numbers behind a legit O-Line.

He gets so much uneccessary hate, it’s comical.

They deleted my last response to you before it could ever get posted--not surprised. I wish they hadn't, but if I posted it again, I guess they'd just delete it again. My name isn't Felicia--want to know what it is?

No one hates JG, and the oline actually played pretty well tonight, they opened up running lanes, and gave him substantial protection.

Eating sacks after 3.5 seconds in the pocket instead of throwing it away because no one is open, or because he didn't pick up on a wide open receiver down field, is not the hallmark of a good P5 QB.

It's great that he's survived this far into the season, but it was obvious from his throws in the 2nd half that he was hurt; he had no business being on the field once he was relegated to only effectively throwing 4 yards behind the LOS. That's on Pruitt/Helton.

I'm predicting that there will be a QB competition next year, one that JG seriously might lose. Not because he is bad but because someone is better.

I personally dont care. Have fun watching other sports on Saturdays. I am sure you will be back when UT is winning again. So whatever.

Since when was the QBs completion percentage (when most throws were either behind line of scrimmage or 1-5 yard passes) more important than winning as a team?

If JG had thrown mostly 10-15+ yard passes and had 70% completion, great. But how many screens and short throws did we see tonight? Why is that? Our WRs and RBs just happened to get enough yards after catch that it looked good.
When it comes to JG homers trying to convince themselves and others JG is amazeballs.

I know our o-line sucks. But I'm so sick of hearing JG is tough. Never have I seen a QB be hit/knocked so many times each and every game. Yes, makes him look tough (I think he is), but why is he getting hit soooooooooo much? It can't be all the o-line.

That being said I thought JG was more aware tonight of the D but the short throws and everyone touting his completion percentage is annoying when most were behind the line of scrimmage anyways.

He gets hit so much because he holds onto the ball too long. I don't understand why KC isn't getting a chance to prove himself. I really don't. Is he better? We don't know. Because he don't get a chance. He looked much better than JG in the Bama game to me. He didn't get hit too much. He got rid of the ball quicker.

We all would have that if all we threw was 2yd screen passes. He will be on disability before the year is out and most of it is from his on doing. Kid cant read a defense and holds the ball too long. He knows who he is throwing it to when he breaks the huddle.

This times a million!!!

He will likely close out the season with 18 tds & 5 INT’s and a very respectable completion percentage. I say that absolutely does wonders for us going into a pivotal year 2 of CJP era. Get it together

Yeah, it's not hard to keep the INTs down when you throw behind the line of scrimmage most of the time. Also, how many 50/50 balls has JJ, MC, and some of the others caught? JG WILL COULDN'T BE A TOP TIER SEC QB IF HE WAS TO BE AT UT FOR 10 YEARS!!!
