The QB Debate - post South Carolina (merged)

How many passes did he thow over 30 yards? Guess I could look that up.

He did better first half but without the screens the defense blitzes more... that was the point.
Big Orange Train is depending on announcers. Palmer caught a pass and gained 18. Our longest pass play of the game and he ran for 15 after catch.

Did JG still your girlfriend? Highest completion of career, converted numerous third downs after a false start penalty but he is the reason the Vols lost. It's time to stop drinking.

Highest completion percentage when most throws were behind the line of scrimmage or for 1-5 yards? I don't care about his completion percent. I want to see us win.

Are you his dad?

High completion percentage is attributed to the fact he throws most of his passes with 5 yards of the LOS.

He takes a lot of hits because he holds on to the ball too long.

He isn't a bad QB, but he is far from a good QB.

Cons:

Unwilling to try 50/50 balls
Holds the ball too long
Rarely goes past his first read
Stares down receiver
Waits for receivers to break before throwing leading to late passes.
No pocket awareness

Pros:

Very accurate with throws within 5 yards of LOS.
Does not turn the ball over much.
Seems to be a good team leader.

I hope he can improve.

Since when was the QBs completion percentage (when most throws were either behind line of scrimmage or 1-5 yard passes) more important than winning as a team?

If JG had thrown mostly 10-15+ yard passes and had 70% completion, great. But how many screens and short throws did we see tonight? Why is that? Our WRs and RBs just happened to get enough yards after catch that it looked good.

I'm going with you on all except the last one on the PRO side of the aisle....I don't think he is the team leader at all. I think JJ and a few others try to be that. JG does not command an audience. Kind of the same way Jalen Hurts was imo

Penalties and bad defense cost them this game. Jg played well.
F*** You.......he can't read the field period and for that reason he quickly dumps off to the outlet. Chryst demonstrated that last week. Blind leading the blind at UT. Saban saw it at half-time in the title game and made the change. How long is it gonna take Pruitt and Helton? I just wanna win fella. JG ain't worth a fu** and I don't accept mediocracy when better is on the roster. You got that? We coulda won with offense which negates your point by the way.

Don’t care what his completion percentage is if he can’t lead us for scores and win games. I don’t know if we would have won tonight if Chryst played (no one does), but I’d like to have seen him have the chance. JG may be an All American next year and I hope he is, but this year he is not helping us win games (outside of Auburn - I give him credit for that performance). Maybe he would play better coming off the bench (again we probably will never know). If KC starts and flops, then everyone can shut up. But right now, his poise gives us a better chance to win.

Tonight was a winnable game. Worst defense of the year and a QB who reverted to his old bad habits on the final drive when the chips were down.
can't like this enough

Tony Robinson and Jerry Colquit says the same things. I trust their eyes and observations

You could put blitzers in green jerseys , and JG would still not figure out who was coming

I know our o-line sucks. But I'm so sick of hearing JG is tough. Never have I seen a QB be hit/knocked so many times each and every game. Yes, makes him look tough (I think he is), but why is he getting hit soooooooooo much? It can't be all the o-line.

That being said I thought JG was more aware tonight of the D but the short throws and everyone touting his completion percentage is annoying when most were behind the line of scrimmage anyways.

He will likely close out the season with 18 tds & 5 INT’s and a very respectable completion percentage. I say that absolutely does wonders for us going into a pivotal year 2 of CJP era. Get it together

Oh are we playing fantasy football now? We get points for individual stats?

All players have a ceiling. JG has hit his. This is who he is. He's trying plenty hard, he just maxed out his potential and it's not SEC starting QB level. at the least, we should have packages for both quarterbacks that take advantage of their strengths and limit their weaknesses. He certainly doesn't deserve to be getting all the snaps.

If JG could run at all it would help us some in balancing out the way defenses play him. But it turns out he's actually one of the worst running quarterbacks we've had in a long time. Not much we can do there.

Ask people who don't believe you how many times KC was on his back last week...Right, he got the ball out of there...wonder where that play was that Ty got last week when he ran that seam down the middle and caught the td pass....who threw that pass on target

Delusional. He has a high completion percentage because he throws the ball 2 yards down the field. He’s not in SEC quarterback.

We all would have that if all we threw was 2yd screen passes. He will be on disability before the year is out and most of it is from his on doing. Kid cant read a defense and holds the ball too long. He knows who he is throwing it to when he breaks the huddle.

Last week was against Alabama and JG was out pretty early. Do KC was knocked down against ALABAMA. Not SOUTH CAROLINA. Alabama. Big difference.

Point is JG is the most knocked down QB, like ever.

Is he tough? Yes, obviously. Is it on our o-line? Partially, but not 100%.

Im so tired of people keep bringing up his high completion hell vol nation can get out there right now and make them short throws he was making..When the game is on the line and he gotta make a big time throw just.believe it wont happen..

Amazes me you don't understand 70% completion tonight, 29-37 for 2 TD and 0 turnovers, and half of his 3rd down conversions were after his line false started. Did JG give up 240 yards rushing? Did he false start 6 times? Did he miss tackles?
He played well until he held the ball too long and we lost our last shot. Just the way it is. He almost had another great road win.

I'm not emotional and I think he is good. He has all the physical qualities you'd want, we have all seen it. Yes you have to have those to compete and win such a position but your physicality is not 100% of the job. Much of the QB position, if not greater than 50%, is between the ears. In that regard JG has some growth to do. Just like most of the CFB QBs do across the land. The difference? This is the SEC, it's very unforgiving. It ain't Rutgers.

I respect Coach Pruitt. and I respect his staff, but I'm telling you right now, this was a winnable game...period. I don't know what happened, but I'm not watching any more games this year. I expect us to beat Charlotte, but that's pretty much it...hello Butch...same ol same ol.
