Dooley had 2 first round picks, another’s top 35 pick, a TE that got drafted, 4 more NFL Olinemen and one of the most talented UT QB’s since Manning and went 4-7. FohThat’s what I’m referring to. Strictly talking about the on the field product. Butch didn’t build depth, scheme well, or show any leadership skills. Wasn’t even a good manager. Had a couple good recruiting classes and that kept him here longer than he should’ve been. Give Dooley those players and he might make it to ATL
We shall see. Although I am optimistic.Butch seemed to know how to run a program and field a discipline team, however his insecurity, lack of X & O's and lack of player development were his downfall.
Dooley knew X & O's, however his ego, arrogance and lack of recruiting skills were his downfall. He was always better suited for an AD role or a coordinator.
Pruitt seems to have both, X&O's and he knows how to run a program at this point.
That Dooley and steele are good coaches and butch isn’t. Just because butch got lucky in recruiting doesn’t mean he’s a good COACH. Means he’s a salesman that decently managed a couple teams to 9-4 season when those teams should have only lost a game or twoYes and Kevin steele is considered one of the best DC’s a went 9-38, what’s your point?

Jumping in a vat of pure hydrochloric acid really sucks.
But, you know, jumping in a burning pool of lava sucks, too.
I can't decide which is worse.
“Lucky” you realize it’s a Head coaches job to recruit and have your guys ready. Dooley had 5 NFL players on Oline, and NFL QB who’s one of the most talented UT QB’s since Manning, 2 of the top 2 WR’s in the SEC in 2012 and a really TE and went 4-7, Maybe he should have been “lucky” and recruit a defense. Dooley is the worst Head coach in UT history, period. That Dooley and steele are good coaches and butch isn’t. Just because butch got lucky in recruiting doesn’t mean he’s a good COACH. Dooley couldn’t even compete with anyone ranked save for the LSU fiasco which counteracts your football intelligence point. Couldn’t coach up a kicker or ANYONE to even field a punt before Patterson. Special teams are a major litmus test for a HC. If they’re garbage...so is the HC. Until last season they were a strength under Butch. And the offensive performance in 16 outshone anything Dooley put out there. Before you say it was all Dobbs, he FLIPPED him and hired DeBord to get the rest of the players to step up. Dooley never had a huge lead against Oklahoma or Florida TO squander...all that was on the field. Dooley was the worst HC in our program’s history. If he ends up being a decent OC, that doesn’t change that status. You are what you win or lose. Dooley lost more, won less and recruited worse. That’s what I’m referring to. Right Dooley is a really good offensive coach. Shouldn’t have panicked over the CU loss to WV and hired steele.
