It 110% was the wrong decision. As I have already said you ALWAYS go for 2 in non shootout game in the 4th quarter to go up by 7. You dang well know it or should anyway.
I am very conservative when it comes to going for two. Let's say that they went for two and were only up 19-14. Then, you get another decent drive and get a FG. You still only have a one score lead. I would not go for two when up 5 in the fourth quarter unless there was time for only one more drive. That seems simple enough to me.

I understand that to some degree but it was slug fest game at that point. Low scoring with defenses having their way. It was surprisingly high scoring after. It was in the 4th qt which is key to my point though

I am encouraged. Not scared of USCe or Vandy(they probably feel the same way about UT) . Play UK after they play UGA and we play Charlotte. Missouri could be scary.

Now if Pruitt can get the offense going in the same direction the defense is watch out!

The fourth quarter is a valid point, because I cannot think of one single situation where you should go for two outside the fourth quarter, but I am more conservative. It is debatable at this point. I still kick it when I am up 5 unless there is time for only one possession.

Good game by the Vols. It was realistically what it needed to be.

1. The penalties on punts were mind breaking.

2. Is like to welcome Darrell Taylor to the 2018 season. 3 sacks, two FF.

3. The sack fumble on 3rd down, when the beaten TE had the ball bounce up like a basketball dribble and then took off for the TD was so Tennessee. I literally cannot remember a sack fumble that scored. Those 7 points should have never happened

4. Cafe Mays was great. Anyone have some salt? I’ve got this wound I’ve been nursing...

5. Probably the best group of RB’s in the nation, but we gave up 251 rushing. I think that includes Nauta’s scoop and tote. Gotta do better.

6. Georgia played conservative, but at the same time didn’t mind sticking it in for a couple of cheapies in the end.

7. Offensive line looked better, but UGA DL has underperformed this year. Auburn’s DL is an elite animal.

8. Confidence we may win an SEC game. Auburn is probably too optimistic with their DL vs. our OL, but let’s see how they do

Well JG has to give his receivers a chance, they didn't have one on either of the extra point attempts.

I can see improvement, but the hill is quite a bit taller than I realized.

Question on Helton: The offense does not look good. I still have an issue with trey not going inside, and the play calling is lacking a great deal of creativity. Do we think that this could change?

Also, we see coaches move around quite a bit more now and coordinators don’t stay in that role as long if they’re good- they get a HC gig. How long does it take to become an elite OC? I’m sure an offensive line would help.

Some really good posts and analysis on here this AM.

The one thing I wanted to see this season that was the most important and not present against UF was taking the fight to the opponent from the opening KO to the last second ticked. Check. Well done, team and coaches. They kept grinding and "straining". Keep doing that through October and there might be a W or two beyond Charlotte. USCe, Vandy and Mizzou are candidates IMO.

That said - until the QB situation changes there will be minimal happiness on Rocky Top. I would rate JG's chances of breaking out as the season progresses at less than 10% without a major light bulb moment. The OC is not helping the situation with his play calling and inability to get into JG's head to improve things. When the game announcers can see coming blitzes and D shifts better than he can at QB with all of the D directly in front of him, there's a major problem. The O-line improved as the game went on and I see a path to better play. They need both Morris and Wright for it to happen the way it should next season and beyond. A great O-line can cover for average skill player performance.

The D will be automatically better when the new recruits report, JJP plays, and Abernathy graduates. Micah is just not good; a pile checker and whiff artist. Buchanan is nearly as bad. They are playing short handed with both on the field at the same time. They need more talent, however, CJP is proving he can flat coach and get the best out of who he has.

Outside of PR, ST are a bright spot. The NCAA ruled KR's nearly out of existence.

IMO...he’s shown enough potential and has good measurables...this will be enough for him to get a high enough grade to risk it...

Honestly...I see the same scenario for Taylor, Warrior and Bituli...I don’t think that any of them are good enough to be more than a low round draft pick at best...but I think they’ll all grade out just high enough to jump ship

Taylor is already improving under Pruitt and Rocker. It would benefit him greatly to stay one more year to improve his draft stock.

Kept Hardman quiet which was good
Got pressure on the qb
Moved the ball once they opened the playbook
Major improvements on defense
Offense is slowly coming along
Good chance to finish strong and get a bowl
Need a great offseason in the s/c
Could be a pretty good football team next year, not undefeated but maybe 9 wins.....due to finally having a good coach

If Pruitt can break the mentality of this team and get them to play a complete game at a competitive level. Alongside not getting the whole roster injured like last year. I think this could be our biggest win of the year.

My issue with JG? He does not throw a good ball. Several times the play was there for a first down and his throw was off. Either behind the receiver , low or just plain uncatchable. The calls to give Chryst a try is not because he has done anything spectacular in his limited playing time. It is to try something different to see if the offense can keep a drive going. This team needs sustained drives.

Liked the effort, especially on defense.
I gotta say tho, dkjr is struggling. He missed several tackles where he got good contact.

The punt team penalties we're just bad.

Offensively wet showed some signs of life, but we still have a ways to go.

Biggest things I see from yesterday... Still got started slow. And we don't know how to finish.

And not gonna lie, Pruitt got me in the feelz in his post game presser. Easy to see why players love that guy.

I think the bye is good at this point. I'll be interested to see what Kind of adjustments we make over the next two weeks.

Lastly, made it to the bye relatively healthy... Big positive there.

Interesting point.

It appears that KO record holders will remain and not be threatened again

How are we going to get a bowl?

We are 2-3 with Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky, Mizzou, Vandy, South Carolina, Charlotte coming up ..... Where do you see 4 wins in that stretch?

Kentucky is playing lights out, Mizzou should of beat Georgia, Auburn will be tough and Alabama just isn't happening.

So that leaves Charlotte, USCe, and Vandy that puts us at 5-7.

Which teams do you see as possible upsets?

For the record I figured we would be 7-5 this year. I might have got that wrong guess we will see (I had us beating Florida)

I think we will lose a lot of close ones before finally beating Vandy.

Based on what...? lol
Lately UT seems to produce a bunch of guys who don't do much in Knoxville but end up getting drafted and/or being UDFA and making NFL teams and producing. Look at Jason Croom, completely mismanaged his entire career and now he's catching TD's on Sundays for Buffalo. Alvin Kamara was a backup to Jalen Hurd for a couple years and now he's one of the best RB's in the NFL. Plenty more examples.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if Callaway was drafted in the later rounds next year, starts for an NFL team, and has a nice career. Same with Taylor, Bituli and Warrior (whether they come out early or wait another year.). Thunder5 is spot on.
