Dang. I think you finally posted something worthwhile.Lack of talent is not the issue.
This team is missing it between the ears and it happened sometime late in 2016. Whatever moxie they finally mustered during the second half of the '16 Florida game left like a passing cloud by the end of the year. Now they just wait around for everything to go to crap so they can feel sorry for themselves. There are no play-makers, no difference makers. I have not seen this defense come downhill like a freight train like Florida's did Saturday in the first quarter. I have not seen an amazing catch against a real opponent or a highlight reel run. Austin Pope's fumble essentially ended the game and that was due to the team ready and waiting for it to happen. JG is tough as nails but is a walking victim. He cannot overcome adversity and carry the team. Using four running backs is stupid. It cost us the game Saturday and it cost Oregon their game too. You need a bell cow back who can get lathered up and you can ride with a change a pace guy sprinkled in. That is not rocket science. Its proven to work.
Does the OLine suck? Yep. Play call around it. Roll outs. Sweeps. Make the DE pay for crashing. Quick slants to the FB or TE. Make the LBs pay for blitzing. Helton went into a shell Saturday after the first two series but also he had zero confidence in JG. You don't have to wait 5 seconds to throw a deep ball. You can throw it in 1.5...you ANTICIPATE where the WR will be. JG can't do it.
Our defense is sound but I'm not seeing head hunters. Guys that are being shot out of cannons. We need those badly and that is not talent per say, its attitude.
We will get completely torn to pieces the next four games. We all know that. Pruitt needs to pick up what's left after the storm and mold their minds into something that resembles a winning, aggressive, pissed off group of fighters. Will he?
Late to the party on this, but totally agree. It is a stupid rule in every respect. It is random (luck of the bounce as to which side of the pylon it goes out of bounds on); it is the most punitive a rule could possibly be in football (absent something utterly insane like literally giving one team points while also taking points away from the other, just because); and the cherry on top is that what it penalizes is exciting, gritty, diving-for-the-pylon efforts/plays. Just so dumb. Its way too punitive. Enough with concussion related rule changing until they get that one right.
I dont disagree with this, but that is a practice problem and teaching guys the right habits. Fir those blaming playcalling think about this there is only so much you can call when your O line is this bad. What dies everyone want Helton to do throw it 40 times a game and get JG hit even more.
Some caller on Ainge's show said Osborne was into it with a coach on Saturday night too. Said players had to separate them. Ainge says there is about 20 players over there that have not bought in.
Every expert has said the play calling was very suspect.
What has Chryst shown that makes you think he would be any better?Wholeheartedly disagree. I will take the downgrade in arm strength for maturity and leadership at this point. Let Chryst stand tall and take his lumps this year and get Shrout ready to roll next year. JG doesn't have it between the ears and that will not change.
In 1999, Lou Holtz took over a South Carolina program that was in shambles. They went 1-10 in 1998, and in his first year on the job in 1999 they went 0-11, only scoring more than 14 points once the entire season. Guess what happened in 2000 (year 2)? they went 8-4, 5-3 in the SEC and had wins over a ranked Georgia team and then over a ranked Ohio State team in their bowl game.
Also in 1999, Kirk Ferentz took over an Iowa program that had fallen on hard times. He inherited a 3-8 team, and went just 1-10 in his first season. The second season they 'improved' to 3-9. By year 3, they were 7-5 and won the Alamo bowl. Year 4 they won the BIG TEN going 11-1 in the regular season before losing the Orange Bowl. His only HC experience prior to Iowa was in the early '90's at Maine.
We all know Nick Saban went 6-6 his first year at Alabama, with a bad loss at home to Louisiana-Monroe. Did you also know through his first four years at Michigan State he was a combined 25-22-1? In Year 5 (his final year before taking the LSU gig), they went 9-2.
The point is that rebuilds take time. Usually they take a lot of time. There are going to be many 'downs' and few 'ups.'
The entire culture of the program is slowly going to change under Coach Pruitt. It's going to take a lot of time. Come along for the ride.
I don’t think people need to be told rebuilds take time. We’ve literally bought into 4 of them in the past 15 years. Doesn’t mean you can’t criticize the coaches in real time when they perform poorly.I posted this in the FF and thought some of you that don't venture over there may need to hear it too.
Pretty sure I called about all of that before the season, once again. Even I was overly optimistic to think this team could go 6-6 though. I think Pruitt will develop himself as the season goes along, hopefully his first time coordinators will as well. Honestly not that confident in Helton though. I have no idea what he's done to deserve a 1.2 million dollar salary. Guy had barely called plays prior to his time here. This season is going to be absolutely brutal, but if we have the right guy, we'll make pretty solid strides in year two. Anything less than a top 15 class will be a failure, but we really need to be around that top ten mark if we're going to expidite this thing IMO.CAN THE OFFENSE GET FIXED? EVEN A LITTLE?
IS THIS TEAM ANY BETTER THAN LAST YEAR?
IT’S ABOUT TO GET UGLY

Here is a thing i noticed after rewatching the game on TV:
The turnover play on the strip sack/interception.
1. Jordan blows a blocking assignment. No doubt about it.
2. The ball should’ve been out already. This Just a simple clear out concept. The wr in the flat is already open, so JG has to do better at anticipating that.
