Bad hire

Worst thing I saw all night was Pruitt kicking the whiteboard. The great coaches always preach poise and composure at catastrophic times like we saw. Pruitt kicks a whiteboard. This spoke volumes to recruits. I still like Pruitt, but this was a bad look.
Hey at least he didn’t kick a player. How many times have you seen Saban lose his mind on another coach (i.e. Kiffin).....or Spurrier throw his visor or headset back in the day. I would be worried if the man didn’t show some frustration after the way they played last night. At least he didn’t stand over on the sideline and clap all night.

We should have two concerns about CJP: (1)Does he have the CEO stones to fire his friend Friend, (2)can he hold onto his committed recruits through forthcoming disaster of this year?

I’m afraid the answers maybe “no” and “no”. I think recruiting is going to be a huge challenge unless there’s a huge about of testosterone pumped into the Water in Knox. over the next two months. This bunch is soft, unmotivated and grossly overrated.

Pruitt ain’t got6 NCs as a head coach either. Please don’t show your ignorance comparing him to Saban about anything. Pruitt is a lot closer to the Kansas coach than he is Nick Saban

Pruitt is the coach, that isn't the problem right now at all. Folks that don't like that need to find something else to do because he is going to get a fair shake at a turnaround. I still have faith in him and the staff to get it done. 3 years from now let's see if we've made the correct strides. GBO!!!!!

Let's look at the results so far for some other newly hired coaches:

Texas A+M - Jimbo Fisher: 2-2 (0-1 SEC)

Nebraska - Scott Frost: 0-3

UCLA - Chip Kelly: 0-3

Florida State - Willie Taggart 2-2 (0-2 ACC)

Arkansas - Chad Morris 1-3 (0-1 SEC)

Arizona - Kevin Sumlin 2-2 (1-0 PAC12)

And one NFL team just because:
Oakland Raiders - Jon Gruden 0-2

4 of the coaches above were high on the list of many people on this site and their results don't look any better than CJP. Remember that most of these postions come open because a team has had some bad seasons. It's not like CJP showed up to a disciplined and loaded team with on field leaders. I think we saw both some good and poor coaching decisions tonight, but I liked that CJP was willing to take some chances (onside kick, 4th down attempts). Pruitt may turn out to be a bad hire, but lets give him some time and hope that once he has his own players on the field we start winning and he's our coach for a long time. Who would want to go through another coaching search? Do you think people will be knocking down the door to come here to be the 5th coach in 10 years? This is going to be another hard year to be a UT fan, but lets not start burning mattresses just yet.
Dang good anology! I like this! Good stuff

Love the way this is written. Sounds like my dad used to talk.

We tried....we tried hard to hire someone else beside Pruitt. Nobody wants this job, no matter how much money we offered.
That’s true. Pruitt was like the 8th or 9th option. I like Pruitt though. Everything gets better in time

We need to spend the money and hire a head coach ASAP!!!!

Money won't matter. We tried it with Charlie. Strong and Muschamp & Gundy. What coach wants to go to a pressure cooker like Tennessee then play Bama, UGA & Florida each and every year?
We have had four different hiring stints in a 10 year period and no one is really interested

100 percent a bad hire. You don't give someone with absolutely no experience a job like this. It's unfair to the school, the fans and to Pruitt. But it is what it is and we'll have to ride it out at least 3 full years, maybe even 4.

No!! We have a line problem on both sides of the ball. These coaches can’t fix that year one and probably can’t fix year two. Look at the skill position talent, we have some really good young players there. When this staff gets the right guys in the trenches and at OLB we will look like a different team. Until then it is going to be a rough road. It sucks but it is what it is. If this staff can’t win with their guys by year three I will then declare it a coach problem.

If this team doesn't show some improvement in year two then there won't be a year three for this staff

I remember an election where someone got beat by the saying "It's the economy, stupid". For us, I'd say "It's the line, stupid". I'm seeing a gutsy QB getting hammered because of poor blocking, good running backs jammed up the middle, because of blocking, and even our all american getting a 15 yard personal foul penalty. On defense, the QB has all day to pick us apart. Very little pressure, although there were a few sacks (a bright spot). You are right, games are won or lost in the trenches. It's going to take time. Baby steps.

I agree that it will need to show improvement and the schedule should allow for that. 7 wins next year is my guess....
