I think the coaches were just as shell shocked as anyone the team folded like they did.
Maybe that’s true. But at the end of the day that is a coaching issue as well.

Florida and Tennessee are two even rosters coming off of a 4 win season. Florida just lost to Kentucky for the first time in 30 years. Tennessee had two cupcake games to prepare and a raucous crowd behind them. Just from a mentaility perspective we should have been lightyears ahead. They should not have been thoroughly defeated.

We didn’t even look like we deserved to be on the same field as Florida. Credit Mullen and Grantham for getting their team ready to play aggressively. Our coaches have not been able to do it.

I find it interesting what people are bitching about today. I remember hearing people complaining about the spread offense and wanting us to play smash mouth I formation/pro style offense. Yet today, I hear people complaining about us running the ball too much. I also remember hearing people saying they didn't want Mullen. Today, I hear people bitching about our coaches and how Mullen outcoached us. SMH

Tennessee routinely called 7-man protections against 5-man pressures ... and already I've seen the QB take a hit three times. You simply can't win with that.

Also with everything going on yesterday, I knew Locklear played a lot, but he essentially replaced Jahmir Johnson for the game.

It was bad, has always been bad, and won’t get fixed. Alabama will always be able to hold, and our coaches will always get unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. I am just resigned to this.
You make your own luck in the Sec. Good teams get the benefit of the doubt.

I really want to know what happened to break this team's psyche so completely. Last year was terrible but not terrible enough to produce this level of shakiness.
How in the heck do you come to the conclusion that last year wasn't "terrible enough" to break these guys? That was worse than it has ever been.

This is bullcrap, first of all I said the team has a lot of "coach killers" so you started off wrong. We as fans are just unobservant idiots that like to scapegoat coaches, but have no real impact on the way the team plays. These guys are all proven teachers of the game. If these players are still this fundamentally stupid, it is not on these coaches.

You guys wanna gripe about play calling, what play can you call that works consistently when your OL is full of guys that can't block, or your guys give the ball up?

What defense can you call that looks good when your guys get little push, can't tackle and bust assignments?

It is fundamental execution that is killing this team, and it is these players that are brain farting it up out there despite having great fundamental coaches...

So..like I said..the TEAM is full of coach killers...guys that either don't care enough to focus on learning, or are just too football stupid to learn.

UM, I understand we don’t have the best personnel, but you can’t run 26 times on first down when UF has like 6 scholarship DB’s and at least one is a true freshman. Play calling was so predictable. No misdirection plays. Our medium passes were wide open early yet we called very little. We called at least one QB designed run. We also ran a toss seeep to London on third and one.

Coaches have to use what they have. Roll the pocket, get Chandler in space (other than on a toss sweep), get Callaway one on one. I never played football, but this seems easy to me. If we lose playing that way, then we lose. But our offensive staff did not use our personnel correctly last night.

Here’s my “woulda, coulda, shoulda” analysis and why we shouldn’t give up.

1. If JG doesn’t get blindsided and fumbles we save 7 points.

2. If we recover the onside kick we don’t get pinned at our two and give up a safety, saving 2 points.

3. If Shamburger doesn’t fumble a kickoff, we save 7 points.

4. If Pope doesn’t fumble through the end zone we potentially add 7 points,

Do the math. Because of 4 freak plays, 47-21 becomes 31-28. We still would have had 3 turnovers in this scenario so I’m not saying “oh if we’d have played perfect we woulda won.” But if you think about it, if we had just played a “sloppy game” instead of an “extra sloppy game”, we would have been right in it.
This is something a Vanderbilt fan would say

I think it has been a culture shock going from the last staff to the new staff. Some are not handling it well. Pruitt is selling them on a process, do what I say and things will get better. If they still buy that after October, it will be a miracle. I think some have already checked out. They're questioning their leaders.
Hmm..🤔 I told you guys this team had a bad problem with this. Nothing will fix this but time and a good bowl flush...We need a fresh bowl.

If the honeymoon is not over for coach Pruitt now, I suspect it will be after the next three weeks. I suspect it will be record setting bad. Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. It will be a monumental task to recruit at a high level with what we're seeing on the field.

To be honest, no, I don't think winning this year is at the top of his priorities.

I don't know but I suspect you're not anywhere near being alone with that thought. I wonder how many of the players, if any, have had the same thought.

Obviously we have all kinds of problems beyond just the turnovers so I’m wondering if in their private moments guys like Shy Tuttle and Alexis Johnson are saying to each other, “Bro, you know how bad our OLine sucks. I mean this is embarrassing.” I’m reasonably sure they don’t do that but I’d understand it would be human nature if they did.

Pruitt said this is the best we’ve looked pregame all year and yet right out of the gate we implode. If the coaches could figure out our OLine it might go a long ways to fixing some of the major issues affecting this team. I’ve been posting for patience with our blocking issues but I didn’t see any progress this week. The next college football scandal that is just waiting to happen is probably Pruitt covering for his “Friend” who is arguably directly responsible for the domestic violence being allowed by our offensive line.

One of the concerns I have is whether or not we are actually consistently playing our best players and in the right positions. Maybe we are but we’ve taken a Freshman All-American offensive lineman and made him the worst left tackle in probably at least the SEC. I wonder how that affects his mentality and attitude.

Most people on here thought Quarte’ Sapp was going to be one of our starting linebackers before the season started. I think he might have thought so too or that he would at least be in the 2-deep. Imagine discovering you are now 4th string. I don’t care what anybody says but if it was me and if I cared I’d be shocked too. It also wouldn’t be the first time I would have told someone in a position of authority to take a flying leap. I can get really pissed off at times. I almost never make the right moves when I’m really pissed off but it’s who I am and unlike Sapp I’m too old to change.

I will say this. If, as you suggest, Pruitt is not all that conerned about winning this year then at least some of his players are bound to figure that out. In his own words, a team takes on the mentality of their coach.

Last thing I’m gonna say for awhile is this... Mark Stoops.

That man is a football coach and has taken him he better part of a decade to put together a really good team. It may take that long for Pruitt. Shouldn’t, because this is the highest paid assistant pool in the league working with what should be superior athletes, but it may.

(Sigh)

Go Vols.

100% Agree

I’m in favor of rolling out the gitshirts

Hubbs hinted on 990 the other day that some of our top commits are going to start taking visits elsewhere. And that was before the loss on yesterday.

Not for me. I am all in for Pruitt. I would be pissed if he had a better roster.

You're putting this all on the players. It's 100% not all on the players. The inexperience of this staff showed up big-time. Too many first for this staff to not have major problems. They've got a lot of growing up to do.

Did you guys watch the same coaching search in 2017 that I did??

No one wanted the job!

The idea that UT can throw money at an elite coach and win big early went down in flames last November. This is as good as it gets.

Buckle up and get used to it.
There are probably

There are probably 6 jobs in the SEC that are better than the Tennessee job. This job isn't as attractive as what many on here believe. Nobody cares about history and tradition. Name brand isn't a strength anymore, and its an extreme up hill climb from the get go.

It's been said, many of our top targets are taking a wait and see attitude to see how we perform this year. If that's the case I'd say recruiting could be in trouble.

Not gonna defend Pruitt until given a reason to but I will go this far. The team last night looked like they did last year. As bad as Jones was at game management and S&C, recruiting and mentality seem to be his biggest flaws.

I don't buy that Shoop was talented before he got here and after but just completely forgot how to coach while here. And I don't believe it's a coincidence that our freshmen have the most fire and leadership.

I've resigned myself to the theory of Saban himself wouldn't do much with this bunch. There are unlike anything I've witnessed.
If we resemble a football team by the end of the season, it will actually give me faith in Pruitt. If we don't, I'll go from there.
