Kavanaugh Confirmation

You don't find the timing to be the least bit suspicious?

Sure. Then again

1) this process has been dramatically hurried to beat the clock on the mid-terms.

and,

2) If I am reading it correctly the information was provided to Feinstein in the last 48 hours and she has since relayed it to the FBI. If you want to question the timing, seems like that should be directed to the person who gave it to her a couple of days ago, not Feinstein.

Just so we are clear, I assign no significance to this at all, yet. My assumption is that this has something to do with the delay in his vote. Maybe not. Either way, if there is something there I am sure we will hear about it. If not, it will fade into oblivion in short order.

If this is a high school sex related incident I wonder how Spartacus Booker will respond.

In college column, Cory Booker revealed time he groped friend, and she resisted

“New Year’s Eve 1984,” Booker recalled. “I will never forget. I was 15. As the ball dropped, I leaned over to hug a friend and she met me instead with an overwhelming kiss.”

Things apparently moved very quickly for the young man, who recalled thinking of sex as a “game.”

“As we fumbled upon the bed, I remember debating my next ‘move’ as if it were a chess game. With the ‘Top Gun’ slogan ringing in my head, I slowly reached for her breast. After having my hand pushed away once, I reached my ‘mark,’” Booker wrote.

Booker didn’t elaborate on what his “mark” was, but whatever happened, it was enough to haunt him for years to come.

“Our grouping ended soon and while no ‘relationship’ ensued, a friendship did,” he wrote. “You see, the next week in school she told me she was drunk that night and didn’t really know what she was doing.

As discussed earlier, this is SOP for Senate committee votes. Grassley was talking about this delay last week and both fully expected it and endorsed it.

For LG - read this including the update at the end. Hard to imagine this isn't the referral when Feinstein claims she referred to to federal authorities. BTW - this article is from a post in this thread.

Dianne Feinstein Withholding Brett Kavanaugh Document From Fellow Judiciary Committee Democrats

Could be. May be that she got the letter and did not think it alone merited action but now has info that caused her to do so.

You guys are assuming its nothing. You may be right. I am assuming nothing.

It's less that I'm assuming it's nothing and more talking about why by all accounts it appears to be the letter she received as described in the Intercept article. Maybe it is something but I'm pretty sure the topic is some high school incident rather than an amazing coincidence she also received a letter about gambling.

You are probably right, though I wonder why she would send a letter about a 30 year old high school incident to the FBI.

Considering the pressure on the Dems to resist ,I think this man has been vetted like no other as soon as his name made the list . I think if anything major had come to light it would have been already leaked long before now . This I think is just step number 9 in the battle plan to block and stall as long as possible . Next they will say a week isn’t longer enough for the FBI to do a full investigation so we should postpone .

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and offer a theory that she didn't want to share it with her other colleagues for fear of leaks, she doesn't want to leak it herself and she's covering her bases for her constituents by passing it along to an agency that can objectively determine if there's anything there. It allows her to take action while not promoting something she thinks isn't kosher for the confirmation. If my theory is true then I give her credit and respect for doing so. I think Durbin is trying to play the implication game though as he did by trying to make K out to be a liar.

Rumors are that it's a sexual misconduct allegation from when he was in high school. Would the nature of the misconduct and the age of the alleged victim at the time of the misconduct move the needle for anybody, assuming this can all be substantiated?

Because much like you she is a partisan hack.

As I noted above, an alternate theory is she's not a partisan hack but needed a way to deal with the letter. I'm sure other explanations from hackery to no hackery could be made and I'm just speculating.

In general while I disagree with her on many issues I find her hackery to be limited compared to other Senators.

Depends on what it was. One would think that if it were really serious and given people have known the story for a while (per the Intercept article) it would have come out or there would be a paper trail. This isn't his first confirmation hearing. So it's hard for me to imagine it was something like rape that has been covered up for all this time with no investigation and no records.

If it's like the Cory Booker incident I posted earlier then no it won't move the needle for me.

Reasonable theory.

Depends on what it was. If he actually committed a serious crime, sure. Otherwise I tend to doubt it.

I think if it's something like child molestation of kid substantially younger, he's done. If it's more along the lines of pushing the envelope too far with someone of roughly the same age, he'll still be confirmed.

It would have to be horrendous.

No way that wouldn't have come out during his first confirmation, remember the Dems held that up for almost 3 years. No way something that serious doesn't come to the surface.

I would agree except that they allude to information being brought to them in the last couple of days. We don't know what that information is or who it is coming from, but it was significant enough and had enough credibility for them to turn it over to the FBI.

I get your complaint that its a stunt. Maybe you are right. I just don't know right now.
Took a few extra days to bag up the bull$#!t when the last bag didn't work.

“Throughout his confirmation process, Judge Kavanaugh has had 65 meetings with senators—including with Senator Feinstein—sat through over 30 hours of testimony, addressed over 2,000 questions in a public setting and additional questions in a confidential session," spokesperson Kerri Kupec said in a statement. "Not until the eve of his confirmation has Sen. Feinstein or anyone raised the specter of new ‘information’ about him."

Agree but hard to imagine it would be the former that has never come to light or was never investigated.

If it were the former I'd say he'd be impeached even if his confirmation went through before it came to light.

From what Feinstein has said you'd think she'd at least be implying some really bad behavior is why it was forwarded. As it is, all she's said is the person of interest requested anonymity and therefore she's passed it along rather than discussing anything about it.
