Josh Dobbs (merged)

Huh?

You said about a million times that Dobbs would win the Heisman. You said about a million times that he would take over for Ben and win the Super Bowl.

Come on man. You're disappointing me now.

D4H always seams to for get about the forum search function...

I expect Dobbs to get chance because of injury...
Same thing will happen in Pittsburgh. Steelers will carry 4 QBs this year on the roster. Big Ben will get injured sometime between Week 1-6. The coaches will put Landry Jones out there. He will play awful or get hurt himself. Finally they will be FORCED to play Dobbs. He will light it up just as he did at Tennessee in 2014. Steelers will win the Super Bowl with Dobbs as the starter. And then people will spend the entire off-season wondering why Dobbs wasn't named the backup after his strong pre-season and why it took Landry Jones falling flat on his face for him to have a chance.

This is simply the way Dobbs story is supposed to play out.
He literally predicted that the Steelers would retain 4 QBs on the roster, and that Roethlisberger would get hurt, and Jones would get hurt or suck, and Dobbs would come out and take over and lead the Steelers to a SuperBowl.

You do know the Steelers once let go a future Hall of Fame QB they drafted before he got a chance to prove himself?

In 1957 the Steelers drafted QB Len Dawson (ahead of the great Jim Brown mind you). They ended up trading him a few years later when they signed some other QB as a free agent. Len Dawson went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Kansas City Chiefs winning multiple AFL titles and 1 Super Bowl.

Its not unheard of for the Steelers to make a stupid mistake like this. They've done it before.
Lol... Just 61 short years ago.

I'm now convinced that the 6 Super Bowls were all flukes.

No chance. Have you not been watching other preseason games? There are some god awful backup QBs out there. The worst situation right now might be the LA Rams. Sean Mannion has essentially played the entire preseason cause they haven't played Goff and he's awful. Raiders backup situation also looks bad because Connor Cook sucks and EJ Manuel isn't anything. 49ers also got a bad sitaution with CJ Beathard as the backup. Those 3 California teams alone would jump all over Dobbs on waivers if the Steelers release. Zero chance he ends up on their practice squad.

I'm hoping he can go to a team like the LA Rams, 49ers, or Saints with a offensive mastermind as a head coach. Guys like Sean McVay, Sean Payton, and Kyle Shanahan would get the most out of a guy like Dobbs.

Why, so we can all wait for you do another 180? Remember, you GUSHED about how perfect the Steelers were for Dobbs, you GUSHED over the management and Mike Tomlin. Even if he ends up on those teams, you're just going to end up bashing them for not playing the greatest player in history.

Well Mcvay “made” noted D4H “bust” Jared Goff a Pro Bowler. Imagine what he could do with the greatest eye tested QB in the history of the NFL!

Dobbs has beaten them out. Look up their preseason stats. Dobbs blow them outta the water statistically. Remember that's what you guys like to look at. Numbers. My eye test also backs up the numbers. Landry Jones and especially Mason Rudolph are hot trash.

Steelers coaches are just dumb as hell. And I can't wait for when Dobbs is winning Super Bowls on another team to see Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert getting fired by the Steelers owners for letting Dobbs go for Mason Rudolph and Landry Jones. That is gonna look laughable in a few years. On the same level as Michigan playing Drew Henson over Tom Brady.

Stats mean nothing in preseason, remember? And Dobbs' stats aren't indicative of how average he played because he played against middle to lower level competition and still was good for a pic a day and could have more pics. Decision making was not even average and a team like the Steelers that likes to ride the running game and protect the football will not trust a QB who hasn't learned defenses and still has questionable decision making. If he does get picked up by another team, and I suspect he will, he will be relegated to a third team guy and will be in this same position next fighting for a roster spot. But because you don't know QB play, you still think he has enough game to be a HoFer and yet, he hasn't proven he can even be trusted to take regular season snaps.

Not entirely sure, but I am pretty sure no one on the current staff was around to coach Len Dawson .. :D

It's not an eye test anymore, now we are actually evaluating pre-season stats. When you really can't see talent, massage the stats to make them say what you want, even if they are preseason stats against lower level comp.

I noticed that Dobbs didn't get any snaps against the Titans. Seems like he was having a pretty good preseason. If he doesn't make the roster in Pittsburgh where will he end up?

This has some interesting viewpoints from a straight forward "this is the reality of it" angle.

https://steelersdepot.com/2018/08/t...form-with-few-reps-as-top-quality-in-no-2-qb/

So the reason that Jones is not playing much is the same reason that they are comfortable with him being their backup. They know what he can do and how much work he needs because they have already seen what he can deliver in that capacity. It’s important to remember that, probably more often than not, backups have to come into a game off the bench, cold. They don’t always get to start a week later after days of first-team reps and preparati

Which is exactly is why most of us here knew was the reason Jones didn't play at all in the second preseason game and has seen little action overall; because the Steelers have long known he's the #2 QB. He's never been in any competition for that this whole time.

That might not be fair. Jones and Dobbs may well have been competing for the backup spot. Jones simply won the competition.

If they were, Jones won a long time ago.

And to clarify, I mostly meant by the second preseason game Jones was no longer in a competition, in reply to a certain poster who claimed then they were in some battle for the #2 spot.

Reports are the Steelers are going to start Dobbs on the final preseason game...
Really seems like a waste.
Let's say Dobbs goes crazy has 4 TDs vs 0 INT with monster yardage...What do the Steelers do?
It's a bit too late to trade him on Sept 1st...the 53 man deadline
Do you get rid of Jones and a 2 million dollar contract buyout?
Do you remove your 3rd round pick and seem foolish?
keep 4 QBs?

They should have started or played him heavy him last week and worked on a trade.

Now, they are basically wasting the final preseason start on someone they can't realistically do anything with. Maybe they can still work an 11th hour trade.

Why? Starters rarely get any significant time in the last preseason game. Dobbs will be facing the same guys he faced when he came in later in games 1 and 2.

The same thing they've been planning to do for weeks: waive Dobbs, and stick him on the practice squad if he clears.

Again, it's not a waste at all. They aren't starting Dobbs to get one last look at him. They're starting him so Roethlisberger and Jones don't run any risk of getting hurt during a pointless exhibition.

As for trading Dobbs, I imagine they've been trying to do so for weeks. But other NFL teams can see the obvious: Dobbs isn't making the Steelers active roster. Assuming there are teams out there who are willing to burn a late round pick on Dobbs, why wouldn't they just wait until he's waived, and then they wouldn't have to send a pick to Pittsburgh?
