Josh Dobbs (merged)

I'm now rooting for Dobbs to get released by Steelers. The lack of respect they have shown him is sickening. He vastly outplays Landry Jones and Mason Rudolph through 2 preseason games and he's the one that is 4th on the depth chart in the all important 3rd preseason game. Just goes to show they made their minds up a long time ago and it didn't matter what Dobbs did this year.

Pittsburgh doesn't deserve to have him. I'm now hoping he is released and has a chance to join a team that appreciates him.

Good job Steelers you're just about to give away the greatest QB in NFL history. This will go down as the biggest blunder in NFL history.

So is this you trying to make a preemptive strike at everyone pointing out that if Dobbs is not kept on the active roster it makes basically everything you posited in this thread (nevermind elsewhere, which is a lot) involving Josh and the Steelers wrong?

Preemptive in the same way he changed his NC pick from Tennessee to Georgia last year after the UT game.

Boy you changed your tune quickly.....even though we've been telling you for about 2 weeks now Dobbs wasn't going to be on the Steelers 53 man roster unless one of the QBs in front of him got hurt.

BTW, standing offer of a wager of any amount you wish on that last line. I won't hold my breath though.

I assumed this was a legit competition. Have you looked up Landry Jones and Mason Rudolph's numbers today? Both guys were dinking and dunking everything. Neither guy is remotely any good. But yet the Steelers management prefers them.

Dobbs is averaging nearly 10 yards per pass attempt with a 100+ QB rating and they're treating him like he's some undrafted free agent.

I don't want to see Dobbs save these guys like he saved Butch Jones at Tennessee. I want him to be on another team so the Steelers franchise can feel the ramifications of the idiotic decision they made.

Yeah, the franchise that has won the most Super Bowls in history is sure going to "feel the ramifications".

Also, once again hate to point out you previously have said preseason stats don't matter, how they look in in their uniform matters most. And again you start using stats when it benefits you.

You say they aren't remotely good.........what does that say for Dobbs seeing as he couldn't beat either of them out?

So if Dobbs hoist the Lombardi with the Steelers after the Super Bowl, he gets arrested right?

Dobbs has beaten them out. Look up their preseason stats. Dobbs blow them outta the water statistically. Remember that's what you guys like to look at. Numbers. My eye test also backs up the numbers. Landry Jones and especially Mason Rudolph are hot trash.

Steelers coaches are just dumb as hell. And I can't wait for when Dobbs is winning Super Bowls on another team to see Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert getting fired by the Steelers owners for letting Dobbs go for Mason Rudolph and Landry Jones. That is gonna look laughable in a few years. On the same level as Michigan playing Drew Henson over Tom Brady.

He has not beaten them out.

The numbers so far in the preseason say he has. I have not looked up the updated individual stats since the Titans game just wrapped up but based on what I have watched:

- Dobbs has a QB rating over 100. 3 TD passes. And has led 5 TD drives in just 3 quarters of game action.
- Landry Jones has only 1 TD pass and only led 1 TD drive in over 2 quarters of game action.
- Mason Rudoph has only 1 TD pass and only led 2 TD drives in over 5 quarters of games action

If we're looking at who has moved the ball the most effectively and led the most scoring drives, there is no doubt Josh Dobbs has been the best. Dobbs has been marching the Steelers up and down the field this preseason when he's played. And he's been making big plays throwing the ball. Compare that to Jones and especially Rudolph who have been the dink and dunk kings.

Also the only reason Landry Jones and Mason Rudolph combined for 3 FGs today running the Steelers offense is because of the favorable field position they got thanks to the defense.

Think about something. Brady, Montana, Elway, Manning, Rodgers, Marino etc. These are the names of the greatest QBs of all time. Do you honestly think there was any question about their roster spots in their preseason games? Regardless if you want to admit it or not, Tomlin kmows how to coach football. He has won 2 SBs. He knows how to spot talent. I mean he has the best WR and one of, if not the, best RB in the NFL. The Steelers are a storied franchise that has produced a lot of HoF talent.

Now do you honestly believe that they would whiff on the greatest NFL player of all time? What are the chances of that? The truly special guys, the future HoFers show it early. You can just see it. Their play jumps out at you and NFL coaches notice. If Dobbs was as good as you want him to be, then he would have won the backup job hands down. Now, here is another situation. It appears that you want Dobbs on another team, so it will be interesting to see how quickly and by whom he gets picked up by.

Stats in meaningless preseason games don't mean a damn thing. I deal in reality....Dobbs didn't beat out either Mason Rudolph nor pornstache and certainly not Big Ben.

5 TD drives in 3 qtrs vs 2 TD drives in 5 qtrs

Dobbs has CLEARLY outplayed Rudolph. You can see it just by watching the games. And the stats are even more damning. Dobbs is significantly more athletic, has the stronger arm, and has been not only more accurate this preseason but also made more big plays.

Dobbs has also outplayed Landry Jones. 5 TD drives in 3 qtrs to just 1 TD drive in over 2 qtrs of action. Also if you wanna get on Dobbs for having James Washington bail him out for that one TD pass in the endzone against the Packers. Well Landry Jones only good pass this preseason was essentially the same thing. He underthrow JuJu on a go route that JuJu mossed the cornerback and took it into the endzone for a 70+ yard TD.

The preseason has not been kind to Rudolph and Jones. Dobbs has CLEARLY out-performed them. But it doesn't seem to matter as the Steelers seem hell bent on keeping Landry Jones for at least one more year and have crowned Rudolph the successor to Big Ben even though he has shown NOTHING to deserve it.

You do know the Steelers once let go a future Hall of Fame QB they drafted before he got a chance to prove himself?

In 1957 the Steelers drafted QB Len Dawson (ahead of the great Jim Brown mind you). They ended up trading him a few years later when they signed some other QB as a free agent. Len Dawson went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Kansas City Chiefs winning multiple AFL titles and 1 Super Bowl.

Its not unheard of for the Steelers to make a stupid mistake like this. They've done it before.

How is the Steelers taking a QB over a runningback in 1957, related to Josh Dobbs' inability to clench the backup QB spot on the Steelers' roster in 2018?

I can't see to find Dobb's stats for today's game. You have them D4H?

21/31 (67.7% passing)
283 passing yards (13.5 yards per attempt)
3 TDs
101.95 QB rating

7 carries
46 rushing yards (6.6 YPC)

5 TD drives led in just 3 qtrs of action.

Those are way better numbers than Rudolph or Jones have put up in the preseason. WAY BETTER.

Great misdirection. The Jim Brown part was not related to the rest of the post. But good job latching onto that one so you can avoid the rest of what I said.

I gave you historical precedent of the Steelers stupidly giving up on a future Hall of Fame QB just a few years after drafting him only to see him flourish elsewhere. History will repeat itself if the Steelers release Dobbs. He will make it 2 future Hall of Fame QBs that the Steelers let go only a few years after drafting them.

Even the Steelers aren't immune from stupid personel decisions
