It's a huge problem. The days of king coal are gone... but WV is so married to coal severance taxes that everything is dependent upon it. Southern WV is like a third world country. But, on the other hand, if you enjoy the outdoors and want to retire to a beautiful place with a low crime rate and low property taxes WV is it. I just signed a contract to buy a house on 8 acres of land for an absurdly low price.
If you want that "upgraded hunting cabin" just check the obits in southern WV.
Fact: There are four deer for every person in WV.
You're right. But there could be a LOT more to it than that. UT has talent and could be a dangerous passing attack too.I gotta jump in here- I read the whole thread. UT is going to pound the ball into WVU like a New Orleans whore. I honestly think UT will flat demolish WVU. They are going to run, run, run, and then run some more. By half time, WVU will be beaten to holy hell. Now, that said, I'm sure WVU will get some points with their QB (until he gets killed), but this has big boy vs. not so big boy football written all over it.
Really? There are about 9 Vols who could potentially be in the draft next spring. You're not much more educated than that WVU fan on UT's roster.Underperformings got nothing to do with it.....(Unforgiven)
TJ, here are some scraps to chew on. SC’s current roster will put more players in the NFL than UT’s by a good bit, in spite of all your blustering about how talented your roster is based upon HS rankings. And before you pop off, it’s almost certainly true.
Now I realize I am on a rival’s board and out of place for saying that here, but with full apologies to any hurt feelings it is what it is.
You need to take the homerism down a peg. Your team went 7-6 last year. They lack depth and outside of a good passing attack, which is one QB injury from being trash, there was nothing to brag about last year for WV. Your team "loaded with NFL talent" didn't beat a single team that was really worth a damn.WVU puts its share in the NFL. But there's never been this many NFL caliber kids on the same roster at once... the difference may be they have experience as well as talent.
Several of these kids could have easily went into the NFL last year. They elected to return because they believe they can accomplish something special.
This team has vibe about it. It may be overrated but every one of them has bought into the notion that this is their year. They believe in each other. Their coaches believe in them. They've pushed each other to get better all summer with one goal in mind - win the Big 12.
They are stronger, bigger and faster than any team in the history of WVU.
I'm not going to bet against them.
It should be a fun game and I’ll give the edge to them but there’s absolutely no way WVU is a playoff team. Anyone who says that simply has no idea what they’re talking about.
Most everybody thought we were going to be good last year as well ..... Then 4 - 8 happened.....Maybe, maybe not.
If WV is way overrated and UT is a much better and a more physical team than the "experts" think, I believe you are exactly right.
If WV IS what most everybody thinks they are, then they are a top 10 team. It would be crazy to think we wouldn't have to throw everything we had just to hang if that's the case.
It all depends on what this UT team really is, what CJP can do with them in 1 off season, and if WV is the real deal or not. Either way we need to out physical them in the trenches and play keep away while we keep constant heat on Will Grier when they do get the ball.
W Va may beat us but I am definitely positive they are not going to the College Football playoff. They may have a terrific team but they do not want any part of Bama or Clemson or Georgia.
Who is SC anyways and what have they won. A sportsmanship award, cause there is nothing in the record books.Underperformings got nothing to do with it.....(Unforgiven)

Pat White was a great QB but not the best passer. That 2006-2007 WVU team had three superstars.. but this team is loaded. Sills isn't the best WR on the team... both TJ Simmons and Marcus Simms are better. Javoni Haskins transfered to WV from Miami. He's supposedly cut from the same cloth as former TTU TE Jace Amaro.
McKoy isn't nearly as good as Slaton. But Leddie Brown may be.
WVU's 2018 offensive depth chart has 10 kids who will likely play on Sundays... Grier, McKoy, Sills, Jennings, Simmons, Simms, Haskins, Cadjuste, McKivitz, and Hardy. On defense they have about 6 who will be in the NFL: Dante Stills, Robinson, Bigelow, Long, Askew-Henry and Kenny Robinson.
I don't recall WVU ever having that much NFL talent on the roster at the same time.
That's an interesting difference between UT's staff and the WVU staff... and UT's last staff for that matter. Pruitt and his guys aren't in awe of their own players. Praise is very muted and almost always followed with a "but" and what needs to be improved. That was the case even when Pruitt was talking about Trey Smith.Coaches are bragging on him though.
