No QB Announcement

the team and coaches know who the starter is. believe they've already started game prep for wvu, iirc. so you'd like to believe they've already done gameplanning etc...so now they're installing. if there is an announcment on the starter, it won't be until next week sometime.
Without a doubt. If Pruitt allows player interviews between now and then someone will slip up like Kelly did last year.

Someone should also be able to find out who's working with the 1's first and the most now. Should be obvious. Difficult to hide.

the 11-2 argument is insanely flawed. half of those teams weren’t even bowl eligible. USC is arguably the only team he beat who’s considered SEC level of comp.

edit: he lost to USC. chryst hasn’t beaten anybody worth flexing about.
This... Then K.J. Costello comes in and lights it up. Throws for 58.8%: 1573/14/4, compared to Keller Chryst's 54.2%: 962/8/4. I believe that Costello beat 2 top 10 teams during that time too (I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they both were.) Notre Dame and Washington.

I'm still convinced its Chryst for WV. I think for at least game one the game plan will be ball control, dink and dunk, lots of runs, short safe throws to move the sticks, occasional shot down field and lots of TE looks and i think hes better suited for that currently. I think by Florida it will be Gman though. Gives him more time to get in game reps and i think we will need his bigger arm to challenge the more talented and physical SEC secondary. Just my two cents.
I've tried not to but have allowed myself to get a little excited by the positive reports on JG. If there's truth to the claims that he's grown and developed mentally and emotionally then he has the physical talent to be special.

Why let West Va know, make them study 2 qbs all week,,.
There are numerous places you could watch an outdoor UT practice from if you want information. WVU wants information. They know and probably have known the likely starter at QB.

If they have not done this... they're stupid.

Not so sure that the team even knows which QB will start, I have a feeling that both QB's will play next Saturday and Pruitt will let their performance dictate who plays going foreward
I hope not. That would be the worst possible solution and probably assure a loss in an otherwise winnable game. Choosing the wrong guy would be better than trying to play both.

That argument is "insanely flawed" also since JG has yet to beat a P-5 opponent at all.

JG's completion % = 61.9%

KC's completion % = 54.2%

People have believe this myth that JG can't make smart throws, but his completion % was pretty damn good for a freshman playing behind an Oline with walk-ons "blocking" for him. I just don't understand for the life of me how our fans can judge JG off of last year. Then they think that a senior that got benched, and then outplayed by an underclassman is going to come in and be our savior. JG will win the job and look like a completely different player this year, watch and see!
There's always a reality behind stats. JG was protected by A LOT of short throws and single receiver reads. That limited the O and resulted in a significant drop off in point production after he became the starter. Even in the UMass game Jones sub-d JG in after Dormady had led them to scores on the last two drives of the 1st half and the second drive of the 2nd half. JG led three consecutive drives that netted 10 yards before QD returned and was unable to reestablish rhythm.

The biggest thing to look at with a QB is the effectiveness of the O. In JG's 6 starts, UT avg'd just over 16 ppg. He got LSU and Bama but also the SEC's worst D in Vandy, UK, and Mizzou who all finished 8th or worse in both scoring and total D... plus a pretty bad So Miss team.

Yes there were plenty of OL and WR problems but JG was ineffective also. Taking 26 drive killing sacks was a huge part of that ineffectiveness.

Just for fairness sack... Dormady took 4 sacks in 5 starts. He threw the ball away or got it out quicker because he understood the reads and plays better. Let's say JG just had 1 sack per game and threw 20 away to avoid the losses. His completion % drops into the mid 50's... which you suggest is the reason KC isn't as good.

I'm very hopeful that JG has grown and will be the "guy". He has FAR more physical talent than KC. IMHO, KC is physically limited and it would only get worse against SEC DB's and DC's.

BUT... if you are going to make arguments like the one you did above then you establish a standard that can be turned on JG as well. Neither of these QB's has played well enough in the past to lead UT to a good season. In overall performance to include game management... KC has played a little better and he's won some games as a starter but that's somewhat expected considering he was surrounded by a better team with a better O system and coaching.

We're going to have to see if JG has claimed the job. I hope he has because his ceiling is so much higher than KC. But he's going to have to prove himself. He hasn't yet.

Why put the pressure on the coaching staff now to answer nonstop inane Qs about why this QB and not the other QB? Like this move by CJP. Heck, he might line Kongbo up at QB on the first play just to mess w/everyone!

neither have beaten anybody. which makes the argument of keller having a 11-2 record completely irrelevant. put JG on that 13 game stretch with Stanford and you’d see a similar record.
This is not an argument you want to keep making. Four of the wins in KC's six starts last year came against bowl eligible teams. There are ways of claiming that JG is the better option. Past on the field performance... just isn't one of them.

Chryst has never beaten a decent team period.

Who knows. I kinda think they'll go ahead and announce it Monday when they release the first depth chart. Would make sense if they wanted to keep WVU guessing, though.
Have they said that a depth chart will even be released before the game?
