Regarding the brains behind the offense being DeBord and Bajakian, you can only speculate on that. We know it sure wasn’t Scott 😂

Listen, we all know the glaring flaws. Worley never keeping the read option was stupid. The goal line shotgun at Florida was insane. Certain FG and game click issues... there’s a lot.

I’m just looking at it objectively. And the fact is, player execution absolutely blew games. Two Florida games given up on last second plays, almost loss the UGA game with JJ, Fumble crazy against A&M... if you’re going to try to wipe away great plays made by players, go ahead and wipe away those also. It’s futility. It is what it was.

Truth is, Butch was head coach when there were two record setting quarterbacks (LeFevour & Dobbs) starting for him at different programs. Credit where due, IMO

Anyways, I’m glad we have a staff who can develop, unlike the clown show we had, and an actual S&C staff... not just an intern
Butch was bad here, but I still think he’d be a solid G5 coach if he finds the right place.

Tennessee was far too big for him and it showed. If he finds a G5 school that just wants him to make a bowl most years and occasionally get to 9-10 wins in a season, he could be have a long career at that level, IMO.

I still think he’d make a great ST coordinator as well.

I'm just ready for Tennessee football. 26 Days.

My 2 major issues with Butch...some of his staff hires were terrible and losing the team like he did last year was epically, colossally bad.

I would have a hard time hiring him as a head coach at any level because of this.

Ot
That’s like saying a hitting coach could never help Albert pujols because he’s not a better hitter. Having different sets of eyes on stuff is never a bad thing.

Give up the butch hate man. He’s gone.
It is a very bad thing when one of those sets of eyes is legally blind..

Yeah but I think those are the kind of things that don’t get magnified as much at G5 schools.

Losing the team, IMO, came from him not having. The same standard for some star recruits that he had for others. Go to a mid tier G5 school and their aren’t as many of those kind of guys to placate.

Take the name butch jones out of it....

84-54 61% win%
4-2 bowl games
11 win season
10 win season
Three 9 win seasons.

Do you honestly think that coach couldn’t add ANYTHING to your staff at all?

Agree with you here.

Osovet has a worse resume than Butch and most everyone is pumped he’s on staff

The new RS rule will be big for him. He’s still probably a year away from being a part of the rotation, but getting some reps during our 3 OOC cupcakes.

Warren's a better pass catcher than Wolf. But Helton wants blocking TEs. Sounds like both of them need to improve their blocking. I could see Warren as a depth player if the coaches keep Blakely and Pope as fullback/H-back. If they don't need Warren, four games and a RS would be a plus.

Monday morning podcast from VQ...

All mods seem to be much more optimistic about this team already which is surprising to me, especially Hubbs, he's always the wet blanket and he sounds excited about this teams upside. Especially the OL, TE's, and DB's.

Taylor likely has one CB spot already locked up, it's possible George takes Buchanan's spot at the other CB spot. Price thinks before fall camp is over the starting safeties are Warrior and Flowers. That's 3 freshman DB's starting.

Guys that surprised them in the practice yesterday...Price said Warren looked really good catching passes from JG (thought he would be catching passes from Jancek). Simonton and Lewis praised Kongbo, said he looked really good standing up in his new position. Hubbs said it surprised him how comfortable Taylor looked at CB already.

There is an awakening going on in the media, that is why you see raised eyebrows even from Finebaum. He and the rest of the media see a real change happening. They know it, they see it, it is that obvious, but they can't say it yet, too much risk that CJP flames out in their view. So the coaching change is so obvious that even the media is taking note, but only taking note until they season starts and plays out. They will say only enough positive things so that if they season goes well they can point back to cryptic comments they made and say "we could tell it was happening we just didn't think it would happen this fast". They, at least the smart ones always leave themselves wiggle room so they can go either way. The dumb ones blurt out opinions as fact and then have egg on their face.

What has impressed me the most with Pruitt is how he sized up the weakness of the team and immediately went out and addressed it with JUCO or late adds to the '18 class. It has been mentioned many times on Volnation that he wants to win now. I believe it is more than that. He just looks at the weaknesses of the program and takes the simplest quickest way to address them, then goes out to coach them up. He did the same thing in assembling the staff. I am very, very impressed with what he has done, can't wait to see if translates the first season. I am optimistic.

CJP's a no-nonsense kind of guy. He's not going to play politics, pander to the media, get caught up in caring whether people like him or vow to build a fence around the state because that's what people want to hear. He's going out there and getting the best players he can get and finding ways to put his best players on the field, instead of sitting playmakers because they don't slide right into his scheme. Players aren't slacking because they respect him and his zero tolerance policy. He's a refreshing change and the kick in the pants this team needed. It feels like UT football could be fun again.

Sorry I’m objective when it comes to QB play, the most important position in sports.
Ok...so you objectively hate JG as our QB 😁 Look..I get it, the QB situation sucks, and JG sucks the most and is never going to be worth a crap...objectively speaking of course. 😉

I'm just messin with you, at least you are honest and consistent in your abject pessimism concerning JG.

I am honestly pessimistic about the whole team, and for what it is worth, I thought all the QBs looked rough in those clips. This ain't gonna be an easy fix.

Best case scenario. JG wins the job plays solid. We make a bowl game and we have a nice outlook for next year.

Due to the staffs lack of the ability to develop players do we really think that would of made a difference?
I think Ferguson had enough natural talent throwing that he could have done well eventually. IMO Bajakian was a pretty good QB coach, so Ferguson would’ve gotten two years of good coaching at least. No way to say for sure.

Even with Dobbs, I think we probably should have fired Butch coming out of 2015 and made an upgrade that year to a better coach while the roster had talent to win immediately.

Either way, I like the staff we have now. Should be fun to see what they can get out of what Butch left them and the guys they’ve been able to add.

Haha, I'll let Hank answer for himself.

For me, I really want JG to be completely ready. Just not going to state that he is until he gets rid of the ball during game time.
And I really want Chryst to be a close second in case he's needed because of injury Etc.

It's my version of bvs but I'm going to have to see it before I feel confident.
