That’s like saying a hitting coach could never help Albert pujols because he’s not a better hitter. Having different sets of eyes on stuff is never a bad thing.

Give up the butch hate man. He’s gone.
It would be a little easier if the jack wagon didn't immediately get a intern job with Bama , wear crimson and say Roll Tide with a smirk on his face. All the while collecting his severence from UT.
Which imo is stolen money considering the job he did and didn't do . I would bet his name is mud in coaching circles. Staff turn over was telling.

How many turnovers did KC have? How come no one ranked him in their top 5 today?
1) no idea how many turnovers KC had could've been more than JG could've been less
2) fans want JG so they'll take any positive JG. Also, is been so long since we've had a good QB (Dobbs was an excellent athlete not QB) that I don't our media knows what one looks like anymore

lol there are plenty of fans who decided they'd never get behind JG after he pouted on camera against GT.

And I'm not sure that's a great read on what the media is saying about JG. Nobody has called him great or praised him too much. They've just said he looks clearly better than the other QBs. Given what our QB depth chart currently looks like, that's not exactly high praise. Nobody is calling him a great QB.

A tale of two cities:

Coaching UT:
  • Dooley: finds a real coaching job
  • Butch: intern
Public comments:
  • Dooley: admits wrongs
  • Butch: defiant
Attitude:
  • Dooley: himbled
  • Butch: arrogant
It’s been 5 years since Dooley. Time can do that. Butch may never say he was humbled or even comment about UT, but it’s not exactly apples to apples.

Dobbs was a very good college QB. There’s no way else to put it. You don’t get drafted where he did if you aren’t.

I can get why this narrative persisted up to 2016. But his Sr season he took a really big step forward as a passer. Was one of the most efficient downfield passers in the SEC that year.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled on Tennessee fans was getting us to believe Butch Jones was a football coach.

I sort of liked Derek Dooley but I thought he was too much like a boss and not enough like a leader. I was reading an article recently on what characteristics make a good football coach and the number one priority was the ability to get players to believe in themselves.

Earlier this evening I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name of the coach we had between Fulmer and Dooley. I’m getting older so I notice when I can’t remember something like that. I remembered that I liked the guy but in a moment of vanity I refused to look up the guy’s name. I was bound and determined to eventually recall it. About an hour or so later I remembered. It was Lane Kiffin.

If I am ever fortunate enough to momentarily forget Butch Jones’ name I will make no effort whatsoever to recall it. I’ll just chalk it up to one of the better blessings of getting older.

Derek Dooley was a total jerk, Sunday after Sunday he explained losses were due to low quality players, those players who were earning his salary.

One Int for KC - two for JG. (Pretty sure).

JG has the better arm, no doubt about that. With that being said, usually the qb with better arm talent will look better in skeleton work. (Its like the hitter with more pop looks better in BP usually).

With that being said the issue that i have with KC was his unwillingness to take shots. Especially in that style of practice and quite honestly in front of fans should make a QB want to take some shots. His arm isn’t great but you don’t need a great arm to make most throws even down the field.

JG took far more shorts than KC. Yes he turned the ball over more but he also threw more TDS. He had a couple nice throws that weren’t caught and he has a couple bad throws imo that were caught, one being a TD.

In conclusion you know what KC is going to give you. He’s going to take the safe throws 99% of the time. So he’s not going to stand out in a scenario like Sunday. Jg will and will look good doing it.

Which will the coaches wanT when the bullets start flying? Idk.

What aspect of football is he better at than Saban? What advice is he gonna give Saban?

Saban likely hired Butch as much for his contacts as anything else. Whatever else deficiencies the man has as a coach, I was always impressed with the people he seemed to know.I

Orrrrrr, the Butch hire could have just been to satisfy a Saban fetish. He seems to like collecting former head cosches.

I really think which QB we go with will come down to how the run game and defense look. If the defense makes a big enough step forward to be a team strength and we can be good in the run game, Chryst is probably the guy.

If the defense doesn't take a very big step forward and we can't get the run game going without a deep passing game to compliment it, JG's gotta be the guy IMO.

I agree with Hank a few pages earlier. Our D-Line/Pass rush is the weakest part on the team. Maybe Kongbo turns it around and contributes in a real way, but he was slow for a 4-3 DE and I don't know if he is going to be quick enough to play OLB effectively. I'm not sold on Alexis Johnson although I think Phillips and Tuttle can be good.

We are going to have to be creative and blitz-heavy to get consistent pressure.

I think Bain gets a lot of reps this year. He is definitely gifted.

According to the coaches they mentioned that his body wasn't made to hold as much weight as the previous coaches put on him and he moves much better at an OLB weight.

If they’re smart they’ll take the young talented QB and let him continue to develop
