I disagree with this. I think we ought to be allowed to continue hating him at least until we're done paying him his 8+ million dollar buyout. jmo.
4-8 is what he will be remembered for. I will say that from the time span from the Georgia win in 2015 until, really, after the A & M game in 2016 was one of the funnest times to be a Tennessee fan in recent memory. But, 4-8, man, 4-8.

i have no idea why this meme came to mind, it has absolutely no bearing. but, it made me 😆

I would say Saban is no offensive genius. He out-talents people. Butch had a record setting offense here, no matter what anyone says, and it’s silly to discredit that by naming, Dobbs, Kamara, etc.
Yes he has great talent but he also has the best defensive scheme in college football. He is a defensive genius. I can just about guarantee you he isn’t a slappy when it comes to offensive knowledge. Don’t discredit the mans football knowledge because he has great players.

I don't think I'm doing that by saying "he is no offensive genius". You may choose to read it that way, but I'm saying it literally... that is not his strength, not that he is a numbskull. And I agree, defense his the strong point of his coaching. I don't doubt he is the best coach of this modern era, but let's not anoint him Art Briles or Bobby Petrino on the offensive side of the ball.

Ok, so this is kind of my preseason prediction, tiering of opponents, and whatever post:

Tier of Opponents: This is the CURRENT position of each program, based on talent and projected win totals, IMO. If I see a clear pecking order within the tier, I will list it as such. Otherwise, it gets a /

1. Alabama
__________________________

2. Auburn / UGA
__________________________

3. West Virginia
South Carolina
Mizzou
__________________________

4. Florida / Kentucky
__________________________

5. Vandy
__________________________

6. Charlotte / UTEP / ETSU

Preseason Prediction vs. the tiers:

I basically hate preseason predictions, because if two QB's go down against WV, or some equivalent, everything is slaw, but based on what we know, which is not much, here is may very early take:

Tiers 5 & 6: Vandy and Cupcakes
Need 4 wins out of 4 games. Chances... 85%

Tier 4: Florida and KY... (Tennessee is currently in this tier)
2/2 would be solid work - 50%
1/2 - 30%
0/2 - 20%

Tier 3: WV, SC, Mizzou
0/3 30%
1/3 is my expectation 35%
2/3 is a bonus 25%
3/3 is outstanding 10%

Tier 2: Auburn & UGA
0/2 85%
1/2 13%
2/2 2%

Tier 1: Alabama
0/1 95%
1/1 5%

So based on my averages, unless @ChattaTNVol wants to math this for me, I've got us at around 6.5 wins.

Not liking or respecting someone doesn’t mean they live in your head 🙄

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled on Tennessee fans was getting us to believe Butch Jones was a football coach.

I sort of liked Derek Dooley but I thought he was too much like a boss and not enough like a leader. I was reading an article recently on what characteristics make a good football coach and the number one priority was the ability to get players to believe in themselves.

Earlier this evening I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name of the coach we had between Fulmer and Dooley. I’m getting older so I notice when I can’t remember something like that. I remembered that I liked the guy but in a moment of vanity I refused to look up the guy’s name. I was bound and determined to eventually recall it. About an hour or so later I remembered. It was Lane Kiffin.

If I am ever fortunate enough to momentarily forget Butch Jones’ name I will make no effort whatsoever to recall it. I’ll just chalk it up to one of the better blessings of getting older.

I appreciate you showing your work. Unfortunately you need to go back and take a closer look at what your final answer should be. Don't c;lick the answer box until you are confident your work produces the correct outcome.

WVU just got a pretty good LB transfer from Alabama..

I finally got the story on this guy. He can't play this year. Played for Jeremy last year in 7 games as a freshman (I think they had a spell where at one point they were down 5 LBs). He got arrested in June and Saban sent him packing.

The arrest was related to an incident at a Tuscaloosa bar [in June]. Cowan was charged with third-degree assault, Tuscaloosa Police confirmed. He turned himself in Thursday and immediately posted $500 bond without having to go to jail, which isn’t uncommon for misdemeanor charges through TPD. According to the police report, Cowan is accused of punching Jesse Ray, 26, in the face at High Tide bar off the Strip early on the morning of June 23.

“Cowan is a physical freak,” SB Nation’s Bud Elliott said. “The questions surrounding him were always ones of maturity, focus, and attitude. I hope he can get things turned around at his next stop, because he has the physical tools to make a lot of money playing football, if he can just get out of his own way.”

A tale of two cities:

Coaching UT:
  • Dooley: finds a real coaching job
  • Butch: intern
Public comments:
  • Dooley: admits wrongs
  • Butch: defiant
Attitude:
  • Dooley: himbled
  • Butch: arrogant
Idk about Dooley admitting wrongs and being humbled. That recent interview came off sounding like “it everybody at Tennessee had just followed my orders, we’d have been fine.”

I haven’t seen anything where he admits his mistakes in recruiting (maybe his biggest, most long lasting mistake).

And Butch is still less than a year off working here. Dooley didn’t do any interviews about Tennessee this soon, did he?

As a person, I like Dooley better than Butch. But I’m not sure this is a good characterization of how Dooley has acted since he was fired.

Point taken, but Dobbs junior and senior seasons were pretty much that. QD only got mop up duty
True, but in 2013 and 2014 we started 3 different guys at QB. In 2010 and 2011 we started 2 guys as well.

Hopefully this year we can settle in on one guy and have him start every game and rely on the #2 guy for mop up duty or in case the starter gets shaken up or loses a helmet or something. OL still worries me unless we get Smith and Hall both back healthy.
