True I guess that screenshot of jg just never bothered me. He just wanted a chance. I don't mind him being mad about that. In a season where most of the team seemed to quit because of the coaches, he was one of the few who kept fighting and showed improvement as the season went on. Imo that showed way more of his true character than a screenshot in game 1 where he was never given a chance to play.

Very well said imo. Couldn’t agree more.

That's why people think JG is a crybaby... Jake Bentley had to go stop him from crying on the field after that loss. I don't care if people get passionate... but let's keep it elevated above "take my ball and go home" level

Has a little bit of a funky release. Isn't terribly mobile. But seems to be accurate throwing the ball from the pocket and rolling out.

Brian Maurer arrived at Tennessee on Tuesday expecting to get a scholarship offer from the Vols by the end of his nearly two-day stay in Knoxville. He didn’t even have to wait that long. “It was definitely, definitely a blessing to get the offer,” said Maurer. “Tennessee’s a great school, great history. One of my favorite quarterbacks of all time, Peyton Manning, went there. “And just being able to see some of the top-notch facilities they have, it’s truly a blessing.”

Pruitt didn’t have to wait to see Maurer throw during Thursday’s camp before extending an offer to him. “I was in a meeting with Coach Pruitt for about an hour, and he said he was going to offer me,” Maurer said. “He said he definitely liked my toughness. He said even though I’ll throw an interception, he liked the way I would go tackle the guy. He liked the way I stick my nose in things. “Most quarterbacks, they just go down. He said he liked the way I try to make contact with people. He said he definitely liked the way I led the team in my toughness.”

“(Tennessee’s offense is) definitely appealing because a lot of offenses now, they make it more one way than the other. I think Tennessee, it’s pretty even. They like to run the ball. They like to throw the ball. You never know what they’re going to do.” Maurer said he still was eager to attend Tennessee’s camp Thursday “to see how Coach Helton just coaches, how patient he is with his quarterbacks and how everything goes.”

“The staff has a lot of combined coaching experience, a lot of combined national championships, so they have some of the top coaching staff in the nation,” Maurer said. “And they have the ability to take their program back to the top again.” He said the “quarterback situation” at each school he’s considering “is going to be very important for me.” “I don’t want to go in there and be behind a four-year starter,” he said. “I don’t want to go in there and not be able to play ’til my senior season, so that’s one thing I’m definitely going to have to take a look at.”

The QB just left town recently after throwing for Helton for about an hour. Definitely enjoyed his two-day trip. Is intrigued by Tennessee’s pro-style system since rest of interested schools are mostly spreads (Ohio State, WVU, UCF). Vols told him he’s right at top of their board. He’s going to Ohio State now, will throw tomorrow and looks to earn an offer. Full story to come.

“It was a great visit. It really felt like home. Tennessee is going to play a big part for me in my decision,” Maurer said after leaving campus Thursday. “I came up thinking I was going to get an offer but when coach (Jeremy) Pruitt took me to his office it was a great feeling and a blessing. They’re definitely one of my top schools.”

Although Maurer plays in a pistol-spread offense at West Port High, he’s intrigued by Helton’s hybrid pro-style system. “It’s definitely something I’m interested in that way it prepares me for the NFL,” Maurer said. “It’s something I can transition to. It might be tough (early), but it’s something I can do and would definitely be a good change for me.”

Before leaving for Ohio State, Maurer did throw for Helton and Tennessee’s coaches on Thursday morning. He “learned some new techniques” for his drops and said Helton was impressed with his hour-long showing. “He said that was one of the best workouts he’d seen,” Maurer said. “He told me that me not being at my full-potential yet and not having the best mechanics right now but that I could still make all the throws. That it sets the bar really high for me.”

“Coach Helton and coach Pruitt are going to do a great job at the University of Tennessee. They’re going to turn it back around to a national championship contender," Maurer said. “I’m top of their board. They said they’re going to pursue me like they’re going to pursue any other prospect they want. They’re going to pursue me hot until I commit or go elsewhere.”

Just an observation, not a ding on the kid
I agree with you. He’s not a very good player. Stats are bad and film shows a guy that doesn’t have good mechanics or a strong arm. However, there’s potential. Hope we land him and Helton can coach him to the level he is capable of reaching

Lol. Nobody really knows about our QB recruiting at the moment.

No, but I do think they're right about Taulia being No. 1. I would be shocked if anyone was listed above him on their board right now. Maurer is likely their top backup option, but that's a little murkier probably.

Lol. Nobody really knows about our QB recruiting at the moment.

I have zero clue what we are doing with QB and rb recruiting but it's pretty weak overall for both this class. We recruit so well everywhere else and this staff has already shown it's ability to keep things quiet in their pursuit of certain players that we never really know what they could be up to until it happens. Staff recruits too well to look so off at these positions without it being somewhat calculated.

At QB it has always seems like Pruitt and Helton have wanted Tuas lil bro and thought they could swing it if they could play the long game. So maybe fighting the battle between how long can you wait before you move on is what is causing some of the back and forth.
