To Protect and to Serve II

I don’t trust the whole drug dog thing. Can they find drugs? Yes. But if you can train them to find drugs you can train them to act like they found drugs. And then it’s a free pass to search the car. And zero repercussions if they find nothing. Dog must have been wrong I guess. Can’t ask him because he’s an f ing dog. But it’s another toy to play with and another way around pesky PC guidelines.

Yeah, drug dogs are basically a free pass to piss on the 4th amendment.

Sometimes you do have to chuckle at what cops encounter.

Saw that earlier. I was thinking there had to be more to that than what the video title claimed. He jerked the hell out of that chain, though.

Maybe one of our cop buddies can explain...

I watched the video. I know a little bit about K9 training and ops.

And this is bulls**t. If I'm the Chief, the officer is about to get an unpaid vacation; the dog will be assigned to a new partner who understands that the smart end of the leash is the one the dog's on; and when he comes back, me and him are going to have a long talk about what it means to be a K9 officer. Can he work his way back? Yes, eventually. We all make mistakes.

There is such a thing as a "hard correction", but it is reserved for over-aggressive dogs. I didn't see that here.

What hurts my heart here is that I know that dog will give his life to protect the other end of the leash. That's how they're trained.

There are three things that really set me off: Abuse of a child; the elderly; or an animal. They cannot defend themselves. That's where I come in.

Cop or not, this was wrong. He needs to be reset. Big time.

JMO.

There will be those here....who either privately or on here will say "I would hit that."

Have at it, brother. Don't bother calling me when you wake up at 3am with that hottie sitting astride you...

With a chainsaw.

:eek:lol:

The deputy got out of his vehicle to get the groundhog away from the roadway, but the deputy reported that the groundhog was not acting normally.

Probable cause...

"Believing the groundhog to be either sick or injured," the deputy shot the groundhog, and "put the animal down for the public's safety," the sheriff's office said.

Groundhog must have reached for his waistband...

The indiscriminate shooting of wildlife just because "it was in the way" never sat well with me.

You plan to eat it, shoot it. Otherwise, if it's not a threat, why would you mess with it?

Maybe that's just me. I've had to dispatch many a wounded deer at Deer -vs- Vehicle accidents.

I never took any pleasure in it.

Keep in mind... we're just talking about animals that are getting blown away. Not actual humans.

Lost track of how many groundhogs I shot on the farm. But it was preferable to a cow or horse stepping in a groundhog hole and breaking their leg.

Groundhogs are pests, kill all you can. Great for marksmanship training.

I'm okay with that as well. If it's a legitimate problem, then so be it.

But here?

Something was wrong with that one. If they let you walk right up to them normally I would have killed a lot more. Distemper, injured, something.

At any rate the fact that this stopped traffic both ways is ridiculous. The cop should never have been there to start with. They should fine whoever called 911.

Slippery slope... should we arrest the 911 caller whenever a cop kills a human being for no reason?

I agree. I probably should walk back the "if you plan to eat it" comment, since it is both legitimate and humane to shoot nuisance / diseased / sick animals. Maybe that was the case here.

I was probably still PO'd about the K9 officer who made a hard correction on a dog that didn't need it, and let that bleed over to this topic. I know better.

But I have always had a soft spot, and a conditioned response, to anyone who is mean to an animal, a child, or the elderly. That will rile me up faster than Steve Spurrier running his mouth. And unfortunately I've seen enough of all of the above to only reinforce that conditioned response.

I've had to finish off many a deer and a few dogs that were hit by cars. It was never easy. Maybe that slanted my view.

It's all good.

Where did the founders say that the federal government (Congress) has the power to regulate narcotics? At least the alcohol temperance movement was constitutional. The same cannot be said for narcotics.

AMENDMENT X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Test it in the supreme Court. If it's unconstitutional then you can have it iver turned.

Hey Ras,
I’m framing in the sun today and I hate sunburn. So I stay covered up.
You think they’ll come and arrest me?

Here’s one from the winter time while working at an FBI agents house. (I wasn’t arrested)
