Davenport Fired

Not defending their negative impact on the Vols, but if building a Billion-dollar business and owning an NFL franchise is the definition of failure, sign me up!

This....and I'm not sure the negative impact is entirely warranted. UT has a fanbase that seems to need to lay the blame at someone...other than sh&tty coaches.

No one’s blamed Dooley and Butch? I’ve been reading this board all wrong! :eek:hmy:

Okay, so help me understand this please... if you are really bad at your job, and one of the many reasons for being terminated from your position is having very poor communication skills and public speaking skills, how do you retain a $438,750 salary as a professor in the School of Communication Studies? Shouldn't she become a student, not a teacher?

Capital to do so acquired from Daddy. What they’ve done with that money is proof that they are incompetent.

Guess I didn’t get the news of all their businesses closing down. Passed a Pilot and a Flying J yesterday....could’ve sworn they were open for business.

Also, did the Browns close up shop as well, or is Jimmy Haslam still pretty much printing money up in Cleveland as 1 of only 32 NFL franchise owners on the globe?

I’m no fan of the Haslams, any of em. But it’s beyond stupid to call them “failed businessmen”.

“Failed businessman”?? I’m no Haslam fan whatsoever, but if those multi-millionaires are “failed businessmen”, sign me up yesterday.

Yeah.
"Failed" needs to be moved to the first word in the title for separation.

Nepotism is a great thing. Jimmy was at the helm and nearly destroyed the company big Jim built from nothing.
In fact, he's lucky not to be going to federal prison.

I spoke with a gentleman who was brought in to audit Pilot and work on fixing it's issues and said it was frightening the problems and lack of ethics in such a large company. He said is was directly related to being a non-public entity.

Not gonna argue, everyone sees things differently. From the $$ perspective only, no I can't say they are failures.

For me though, making money... over everything else, isn't my definition of success.

Browns
Vols
Pilot

Fwiw. However much the Haslam are worth, I'd trade half that for those 3 to be highly respected.

Wouldn’t really argue any of that Behr. But by definition, “failed businessman” denotes that a) you’re not making any money and b) your business(es) have closed down and are no longer “in business”.....and that’s far from the case with any of those guys in the family.

I don’t want to seen as defending the Haslams, that’s not my intention here. But words mean things, so that’s really what I’m disputing.....and I don’t think there’s any way anybody can accurately call the Haslams failed businessmen.

Yea, I understand and obviously can't argue. I just felt an uncontrollable urge to get that off my mind. :)

Agree.

Browns -- Laughing Stock....embarrassing and talk to a Browns Fan. Profit or Tax Write Off.

Vols -- $ given = control, power, influence and the creation of puppets in the AD and Administration.

Pilot
-- Criminal and unethical Behavior. Skirted Prison.

The University is at fault for associating itself with this type of entity or persons.

Money is not the only way to look at success of a person or a business.

Leadership and ethical behavior. He does not serve UTK he expects UTK to serve him. This is not success.

When you look at all three products it has FAILURE written all over it.

I can't argue at all. Ethics are a thing, at least in my world. We could use a bit more of this kind of philosophy these days.

Laughing stock or not, the Browns have doubled in value since Haslam purchased them and had an operating income of $95 million last year. I'm not a Haslam fan, but doubling your investment in six years and having a $95 million income from one of the worst NFL teams is not bad.

Agreed. No matter how the fans view them they have been wildly successful when it comes to making money. I would say not one of us on this board has come anywhere close to their success.

In terms of money, I'd agree.
