All I know is, we need to wrap it up fast so if it’s a no we can focus our attention elsewhere. But it would be a huge disappointment to lose him to Florida.

Definitely be nice to wrap him up before Session 3 of EYBL which is in 2 weeks, would allow us to really focus on a couple guys.

And that would go along with the "struggle to close the deal" trend we've seen.

Is that a trend or just how they manage the process? Is it a "struggle to close the deal" or are the targets higher rated and harder to get? If TN was fishing in the 150-250 range then maybe there's no struggle. Maybe the bar has simply been raised to a higher level.

It’s the trend based on 3+ years of recruiting here.

Huh? Isn’t that the same thing? Struggling to close/struggling to get a commitment?

Not at all. If it gets done it gets closed.

How many lower ranked guys have we missed on?

It ain't many so we ain't struggling.

Bowden was a hometown guy. Easily understandable why he was easier than most. I expected Fulkerson to be the same way but we know he wasn't

We struggle to close.

Lol.

It's a easy question.

Do you believe Barnes tells recruits he wants them to commit and shut things down on their visits?

Is so then I agree with you guys we struggle to close.

Or Do you believe what Barnes has said and that he encourages kids to take more visits to make sure of thier decisions before committing?

If you believe that then it's plenty fair to not like the "old school-good guy" approach but that isn't struggling to close these lower ranked guys because we almost always get them.

I believe the bolded is the dumbest strategy I've ever heard and I'm just kinda ignoring it because I hope it's not true.

We struggle to close. BTO agreeing with me should be all the proof you need.

All you're doing is trying to excuse/explain why we may struggle.

All I am doing is staying what the man has said. He was very frank about recruiting, offers, and the games played in recruiting one night on vol calls. He clearly believes in the old school honest no pressure way of things. Like I said before it builds trust and it appears it's working

You clearly want him to pressure guys and I get that but you would have to agree that many times that turns players and families against coaches
Woudnt you?

Uh, I think I'm pretty clear when I say it's the dumbest strategy I've ever heard and I'm hoping that you're misstating it.

We. Struggle. To. Close. Period.

I know if my kids are lucky enough to be recruited I will be strongly offended if a coach tries to pressure them into a decision without seeing other schools. Maybe my kids won't feel that way but it's a lifetime decision that isn't done over the course of a weekend imo

With which players do you build a more successful team...

3 & 4 stars who totally buy into the program and the coaching,
or 4 & 5 stars who don't?

I think that's why Barnes gives them every chance to be happy somewhere else. He's confident what he can do with them, but only if he has their extreme committment.

The bottom line is Barnes isn't going to tell a kid what he wants to hear to get them on board quickly with a commitment. I agree with you he wants them all in with what the reality of experience is. He is far far far from a used car salesman than pressures a sale before leaving the lot

You're talking about something totally different.

You're drilling down to a specific recruitment of a single player and making up hypotheticals about it as we talk.

I didn't say I want us pressuring kids and making them feel pressured. I said we struggle to close which is true.

We know Pearl is the ultimate salesman. I am trying to think of how many commitments he got on visits. Someone mentioned McRae was there others?
I know Tobia Harris didn't commit "easily" but can't recall others.

Also has he gotten quick ones at Auburn?

When you bring a kid in on an OV the goal of the staff should be to have that kid leave town committed or thinking that he doesn't need to take any more visits because he loves Tennessee and knows its the right move for him.

We are talking about OV's here. In many cases the recruitment has been over the course of months if not years.

By the time they take an OV we should be thinking "lock it down" and not "ok son, go ahead and visits some more schools while we wait."
