Article: Exit Interviews Should Be Very Interesting

Let Pruitt clean house. Smart had to do it at UGA when he got there and I am sure Dawg fans are happy with the end result.

Last I checked Smart convinced NFL level talent in Chubb and Michele to stay.
Kelly, Gaulden, McKenzie?

Think they'd make a difference?
Hell, he didn't even talk to Boulware.

Nope, that's a false dichotomy.
Dabo is a perfect example that a coach can be successful and affable.

Not saying that hasn't/can't happen. Just saying if Pruitt fails that Vol fans will want someone who is a complete 180 personality wise from Pruitt, including many of those who are cheering on his hard nosed approach.

I don't care if you're Mr. Rogers or a Drill Sergeant. Win games.

No choice doesn't mean you lack opinions or insights.

Sorry, but after Fulmer, Kiffin, Dooley and Butch, I don't have unconditional trust for someone just because they get the job.

Fine, worry about. If your worries become reality, you'll be miserable longer than me.

You guys complaining are so quick to forget the housecleaning job that Kiffin did when he was here that 1st Spring. There were like 15-25 guys booted out and asked to hit the door. Let CJP do his thing.

Please stop trying to disparage me.
I dont lose one second of sleep over this.

Fair enough, but in my defense, I had just read another post by you in another thread and you seemed pretty upset.

Sorry.

Yup. A real coach (leader) inspires and motivates. They take marginal players and get the most out if them.
Running them off doesn't.

So what does that say about the previous HC? Every time a coaching change happens you have attrition. Heck even without a change attrition happens. Some voluntary and some forced. My guess is the "life champions" are the issue. Our team was flat out physically and mentally weak the past two years. I for one am glad to have a hard nosed guy in there weeding them out.

We may wanna slow our roll a little around here before we run off 1/2 the team. There is no guarantee that we're replacing them with anyone better.

If he doesn't, then CJP will be the next on the list of failed Tennessee coaches.

You can question all the aspects of CJP's resume that you want, but there is no debating the fact that he has coached at WINNING programs for the last decade. IF nothing else, he understands not only the physical attributes of winning players but also the type of attitude and effort it takes to win. Whether he can recruit and develop those types of players remains to be seen, but there's no doubt in my mind he knows what they look like... and thus, what they don't.

There's nothing wrong with recognizing that some guys just don't fit. The greater the contrast between the incoming and outgoing coach, the more of those guys there's going to be.

What is more ethical? "Inspiring" them to hang around and work out with the scout team or being honest with them and allowing them to transfer to a program that represents more opportunity?

A "real" leader also very clearly defines the standards and expectations of those he or she is leading, and if those expectations are not met, he or she addresses that in a way that those remaining understand the consequences of not meeting expectations.

There's not a leader on the planet that walks in and gets EVERYONE on board. The smart ones understand that getting those who are not out of the picture as quickly as possible is an important part of the process.

You're saying that was a good thing?

It depends. Its not like your freeing up schollies. This isn't going to become an elite program overnight.

Pruitt going to win a national championship here. I can see it. This is a real coach here he aint making it easy for nobody thats including my nephew Brandon.. All any player want is transparency keep it real and honest and all pruitt do is keep it real with these guys and the fan base. This is how Nick Saban is.. Pruitt is perfect for Jennings and this what he was missing a tough hard nose coach that aint going to suck up to him because he had a few good games here and there.

Sorry.

I'm tired of fans acting like they don't care. I care. It won't stop me from keeping high expectations.

CJP&S is being put to task. Make this year's team a winner. We will see how good a coach he is with Butch's players. They were recruited for a different offense and defense.

I don't blame a player for leaving if they have been told they aren't a match and will most like never see the field except maybe on special teams. So many still have NFL expectations that aren't the best fit for our new schemes. Let them go and get something on tape.

If it's lack of effort. "Give all", is the standard.

That's easy for a fan to say.

I've watched it 3 times and can't tell who quit. Maybe the 4th time I'll notice. It's on now.

I don't understand all the recruiting rules now, but with my understanding of the new 25 scholarship limits per year, running off guys does not open up spots immediately, so that is not the ultimate result. What it does is remove anyone who is not on the same page effort wise, team wise, and goal wise. The job of the HC is building a team of coaches and players who are willing to do what is needed to achieve their goals. My experiences show me a boss gets out of their people what is expected. Low expectations get low results and high expectations get high results. Coaching is not just X & Os. It is team building. If it was just technique everyone would just teach the same methods. Ex: Most Saban assistants aren't near as good as Saban.

May be hard to watch it on TV to find out. You get a very small window of action per play on TV.

Really can't afford dead weight on a football roster. If certain players can't buy in and play with effort better for them and for us that they find another home. Sure hoping the Texas A&M grad chooses us that would be one CB problem solved.

That’s ok. You have the same effect as the rest of us either way.

Yeah, all that attrition worked out absolutely fantastic. Great example.

Coach up or coach out the door. happens daily in real life with strong leadership. It hurts in the short-term but the team responds and attitude improves. People will work their tails off when the crap team members are gone bc the black cloud is gone and they know you appreciate their efforts. We never really heard about premedonnas until Dooley and Butch. I’m sure some have been around but they didn’t bring down the whole team.

I am not a fan of cleaning house, but if there are players on the roster with a quitters attitude? Well attrition happens to every program every year. Maybe they will be happier at a Tennessee Tech, UTC, or a college closer to home.

UT has hired a real coach, and unfortunately, he did not inherit a lot of SEC football players. 2018 will sting, but its a chance to get freshman to come in and play. Anyone remember Saban's first year? that's what Pruitt is doing, spring clean, and get some real players at UT. I was a Butch fan, but I found out he was all talk and no action, this is the SEC, you can't recruit soft players who don't want to work.

Go Pruitt!
