Pope: There Is No Hell

Possibly.
I wouldn't think given how much it was discussed that they wouldnt have tried . I 'll give them a little more credit than that. We create new words everyday in the south.

Yeah, you’re probably right. They knew what they were saying

I know that most on here disagree with my stand on the subject, but that's alright with me. I still believe and am fully persuaded that alcohol is the devils poison for mankind. :hi:

I don't disagree that it can be.

Disagreeing with me means little anyway.

The Bible says the secret of the flesh is in the blood. What do we do to test for sickness. Draw blood?

But you admit it fits

No, I admit that it can be made to fit. It is made to fit after the fact, through a lot of gymnastics about what we mean by "the secret of the flesh". They did not mean "disease" when that was written, though. They meant that carnal sins were passed on through generations, and they were passed on through the blood. That's why guilt fell upon sons and grandsons.

Amazing how much you doubt the bible and still call yourself a believer! :)

Truly amazing. The Bible isn't a science book. And, trying to make that claim is bull crap. And, then trying to impugn my faith because I won't submit to this nonsense is a class A dick move.

You have my undivided attention.
Care to elaborate?

1 Timothy 3:8

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
King James Version (KJV)

I've ways wondered why if he was referring to any non alcoholic drink (which some think "wine" can also mean), why he chose to say "to much" instead of none at all.

Similarly in Ephesians 5 he chose to say “do not get drunk “ as opposed to “do not drink wine”

18And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

18And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
He then later in the same book says,

1 Timothy 5:23 King James Version (KJV)
23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

Unless he's warning of a the squirts by drinking too much juice (mama warned me) he mentions what I believe is fermented wine again in a moderate dose.

One which my great granddaddy took to heart for 60+ years of his long life on this earth by having a cup of his homemade wine every morning.

That’s an interpretation.

It is the most reasonable and coherent translation.

Your translation implies the following state of affairs over two thousand years ago:

"Hey, what do you think this verse means?"

"I don't know, but we better keep it"

That strikes me as absurd. The early Jews and early Christians saw the Canon as having real meaning in their lives at their present day. Interpretations they rely on scientific discoveries made in the last few hundred years are interpretations that are most likely to be discarded. Those that aren't must come with substantial justification.

That’s interesting
I’ve not spent much time in 1 Timothy on this issue.
I will now.

Thanks for the information

I don't think it was just ironic that he missed more than one chance to make it crystal.

I remember it coming up at my granddaddys table and my granny going into detail about it by pulling the Bible after the meal to explain why.
